      Being bored at home, no internet, no computer in your pocket, you had to find stuff to do. You had to be creative. • @nonconsensualopinion
      @nonconsensualopinion 3 года назад

      I'd say it's kind of the opposite. Our technology has made us more tightly connected. I've never met you and it's likely that we live very far apart, but we are able to speak. It used to be that I could realistically only speak to those around me, such as in my town. Even that was too large really. I would have only spoken to those in my schools, people who congregated at events I liked, or restaurants I liked. My exposure to people was largely limited to people who were like me. Even economically, since everyone in my neighborhood would have been able to afford the same type of house more or less.
      I think the root cause of so many of the issues today is that as a species we're not very accepting of others when they have different opinions. I'm supremely guilty of it. To be frank, I'm very liberal and I am absolutely put off by those with a conservative leaning. I end up interacting with those people on the internet and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. They probably don't like the experience on their end either. I think both of us go our separate ways feeling a bit less positive about the state of the world because it turns out that the world isn't what we thought it was. I was under the impression that many more people agreed with me and it gave me comfort. The other guy probably felt the same. We now see the world populated by people who "just have it wrong" or "are dragging this world down".
      Previously it would take generations of people before populations were completely merged. It allowed children of each generation to adjust and accommodate both views of the world and to interact with people who believed those things. Now, an internet connection brings those people and ideas into our lives instantly. We've never had our worldview challenged so quickly.
      So in short, if that is still possible, our technology has exposed us directly to the sum total of humanity and we aren't prepared for that because we all live in a world we created in our heads, based on what we could see out our windows.

It's today's culture of oppression and thought policing that makes politics so unbearable. Not being able to think and speak freely about issues and beliefs is what has truly ruined things. I left for Marine Corps boot camp in 1997, my folks who weren’t going to boot camp and obviously didn’t have a ticket for my flight we’re able to come to the gate before I boarded my flight and the only way we could communicate efficiently was by handwritten letter. Ah those days were so much simpler and fulfilling, now the world feels like one giant rat race where everybody is doing the same exact crap and they all somehow feel unique doing it (Tik Tok) where we are more connected than ever before and yet we all feel worlds apart from one another and everyone hates each other. Yeah man take me back to the 90’s I’d gladly take those simple times over this crap.

    • @MidnightSonnet
      @MidnightSonnet 2 года назад

      What I've noticed is that, back then, they didn't have to hype up a movie too much. They just had to show a couple of main actors and a few snipits. Back then, going to the movies was a major thing, so any excuse to see a movie was taken. Nowadays, studios have to create elaborate trailers and teasers in order to garner any attention from the masses. Kids today would much rather be on the internet playing a game at home than watching a new movie in theaters or otherwise. In the 90s, elaborate advertising for a movie was rare, but considered genius. Like how Godzilla 1998 was advertised. Even though it was a crappy movie, the advertising was next level.
