I have not bought a vintage Chanel before, but my ultimate goal is to get a classic flap made in 1988 so that I can always say my bag is as old as I am.
I just purchased 2 vintage Chanel bags at a trunk show from a reputable reseller- i got sequined flap bag from early 2000/ and a Chanel Jumbo XL from 1996- this bag was in mint condition- someone loved her very much. The difference in quality from my newer bags is significant- cant beat the 24k plating. This jumbo was on my wish list for years.
I was eating a salad and just kind of listening to your video and when you brought up that Chanel bag to discuss the hardware I almost choked on my salad I have never seen this style of chanel omg. I must have JESUS that is stunning.
Loved how informative you were in this video. Another thing I learned- I purchased a preloved Birkin, it passed 2 authenticators, it was authentic. However, I took it to Hermes for spa, they weren’t able to do anything because they said it had been repainted by someone other than them, but that yes it was authentic. I ended up selling it for what I paid but unlike the person who sold it to me, I disclosed that it had been repainted.
Thank you! I was pretty proud of this video 😅 and yes, buying Hermes preloved is its own ballgame! The Hermes spa won’t touch a bag if it has had work done elsewhere. I’m sorry you had that experience, but I’m glad you were at least able to get back what you paid.
Just so you know. I watch your video because of your personality. I found you intelligent and very sensible. You have value close to mine when it comes to luxury
Vintage Chanel is not on my wishlist. I´m simply not into Chanel. While I like to see it on other people and your enthousiasm is always heart warming I simply don´t want any for myself. That does not stop me from watching your Chanel content! (And enduring the ads youtube is throwing at me...) Vintage on the other hand is something I truly love. What I scour the vintage market for is mainly older/ vintage Dior. I´m very jealous of people in the US who can make use of the Japanese market. For Germans import taxes get in the way. They are substantial and make any good deal a lot less appealing. Thank you for the very extensive guide to vintage shopping! It´s very interesting. I especially appreciate that you are showing photos of the things you point out.
I have a very early chanel double flap in burgundy, with the classic lock created by Karl Lagerfeld, but still with the mademoiselle strap and the Eclair zipper inside the bag. The bag is 40 years old, so it is made before the numbering that started in 1986. These bags become antiques because they were made to last. Your buying tips are very interesting, thank you.
Such a good helpful video. I've had my eye on a Cambon pink and black from the 2000s. I can't decide on the type. Tote? Shoulder? Satchel? Pouch? Wear?? Decisions! I'm probably dithering too much! Any who, super video! ☺☺☺☺
I’m currently looking at a preloved 2005 black Cambon quilted pochette. The condition is very good. Do you have any thoughts of pricing and worth? Also, would this style be a good investment? It will be my first Chanel bag so I want to make the right decision

Very informative video as usual 😊. With regards of authenticity, may I know what do you think of entrupy check on bags. Some preloved bags shop claimed that their bags have been checked with entrupy even tho maybe the accessories are missing and I wonder if it’s a guaranteed way for authenticity. Thanks a lot!
Entropy is a well-respected authentication service, but if you are ever worried, you can double authenticate. Zeko Autentication is an excellent resource for another Chanel authenticator.
Love this! You introduced me to Buyee in that video from a while back... lots of new handbags since then thanks you you 🙊 Can you advise how to go about in conversing with Buyee sellers? I’ve found that it redirects you to Yahoo Auction or wherever you are actually buying from and I haven’t had luck conversing with sellers. Any advice on that end? Thank you again!
If you are looking to contact sellers, you can do so through Buyee itself. You can start a chat and go through the prompts to do so. The only thing is that Buyee won't negotiate price for you. But got other questions for the seller, they will be the go between.
@@classicswithaquirk I'm a huge ferragamo fan so found a few ferragamo bags on there including the Gancini top handle! and a few Louis Vuitton Epi pieces. Always on the search :) Looking forward to more of your vids!!
Hi! Can vintage bag models without serial numbers and leather interior lining be fake? I went to check one bag but had a small corner a stitching discrepancy misalignment and the interior embossed logo in gold ink was not embossed but to close to the stitching dividing the bag and the flap! So I didn’t buy it nd the chain was lighter, so I wanna know if I made a mistake and should go back to buy it 😂
I am so bummed. I wish I had this information before I bought my bag. It had more wear on the corners and edges than was shown, and of course dimpled quilted, so I sent it to leather surgeons. After seeing this I am so sad, when it comes back, I just want to try and sell it at a loss of course, and give up on my decades dream of having my own Chanel bag, but I am wiser and knowledge is always a win, right?😢😢😢
I think it certainly can’t hurt to see what the bag looks like after Leather Surgeons is done with it! I’ve never used them before, but I’ve seen them do some great work.
Vintage is nice, about 1/3 the price of new and the hardware were plated with 24K gold. When I heard that the Chanel Diana was made in honor of Princess Diana, I was intrigued. So was Lady D by Dior, but that bag is er not to my taste whatsoever.

The cambom was such a cute style! I’ve looked at some of the totes myself (also in the pink) 💕

Great video! I have been debating on purchasing a vintage piece for a long time… I’d love to get one from my birth year! (‘92)
Oh, tell me if you end up going for one!

Very intersting video!🤔
Love your video can you recommend a good trustworthy seller.
Thanks.
I think the sticker is more important than the authenticity card. I know it’s very common that an older bag might have it lost.
I agree. The sticker is the most important thing to me, after the bag itself.

As someone who wants my bags to last for years to come, how can we prevent the stickiness of the leather pockets?
You can use a white piece of felt/cotton/microfiber cloth to slip into the pocket while the bag is being stored!
