Just some extra tips: I have been buying vintage and second hand for at least ten years now (I come from Asia where there are lots and lots of designer vintage goods from the 80s-90s). Firstly, it’s almost inevitable that you will end up making a few mistakes along ur journey of buying vintage. Even if you have a checklist there will be one or two areas that you might miss and a lot of it comes down to actual experience. Secondly, “odour” is so so so so important. Can’t stress this enough! You can potentially restore a tear or marking. You can get a bag repainted etc. But it’s super difficult to get rid of cigarette or mold smell, even with professional restorers! This is because vintage leather/fabric is so delicate and all the traditional ways of getting rid of bad odours just won’t work with delicate materials (ie spraying it with chemicals, leaving it out in the sun/rain etc). Lastly, it’s always better to pay more for a better condition item then to pay a rly low price for something is in rly bad condition, and thinking that you can just get it restored. This is because getting something restored professionally is very expensive, it takes a lot of extra time and effort that you might not be bothered to invest in (more often we want sth to go instead of waiting another three months - so often what happens is u will just leave the bag u bought in ur house and never actually get round to restoring it), there is a risk that the restoration will go wrong, especially with cheaper, less professional services (fleur also mentioned this in the video about the bad paint job), and lastly, the value of something that has been restored will drop quite dramatically in the vintage market. Oh and one final point! There has been lots of hype regarding vintage items now for various reasons (For a while the pandemic meant that we couldn’t visit a Chanel store, so some resorted to buying vintage, also buying used instead of brand new items is more environmentally friendly and people are now more conscious about the environment)... but always remember a lot of this is hype! Especially the fendi baguettes the prices have sky rocketed and you really need to ask yourself before buying: is it worth it? Do you really want it?
You raise some excellent points! The trickier thing is buying online and receiving the bag with a smell, that's my main concern as you mentioned it's so difficult to get the odor out. Would you say the vintage bags should be stored differently?
Hi Amanda, I dont know which part of Asia you are from but I do agree on some parts that you mentioned. I live in Hong Kong where vintage boutiques and 2nd hand consignment shops are abundant. The advantage of having brick & mortar stores is it definitely makes it easier for us to inspect and scrutinize the goods prior purchasing. I wouldn't say never in buying from a CHANEL boutique store but for now the quality, price and environmentally friendly values are the reasons I am going with the vintage route.
I’d love to see a video all about antique jewellery, what to look for, where to get it etc. The same with antique furniture would also be amazing as I’ve just got into buying antique and vintage jewellery and furniture and would love your tips 😊
I love how straightforward your guide was. You really broke everything down and made it easy to understand what to look for. I’ve found vintage shopping pretty overwhelming in the past, but this makes me feel a little more confident to try it out. I’d love to see you make a guide for buying vintage and antique jewellery as that’s something that I want to learn more about too.
These are excellent tips that I wouldn't have considered right away. I haven't gotten in the habit of buying pre-loved items because I am nervous that I may buy incorrectly and regret the decision! This gives me a bit more confidence to step into the world of vintage shopping. 💖
Loved this video - thanks for the tips! I’m into this type of sustainability/vintage content - even if you buy things we can’t buy too it’s fun to see more special pieces than asos, topshop etc. Hope you are well.
Hi Fleur, great video and content as always! Love your channel and I’m so happy that you’re still being yourself and authentic over the years! I’d love to see a video over vintage jewelry, the pieces you’d shown are astounding! Thanks! Take care
Fleur! That cardigan is gorgeous! You look stunning as always, it's so nice to keep watching your videos after so many years (since you were in college)
I was recently looking at vintage (or even pre-owned) Louis Vuitton purses. I always tell myself I’m going to splurge and buy a purse when I get my quarterly bonus but I never can bring myself to do it haha. I still love learning more about designer products though even if I use my target purse everyday lol
I went mid-range preloved and got a leather All Saints crossbody bag on Poshmark for $50! I wanted a real leather bag from a good designer without dropping stacks for vintage luxury. Might be a good in-between
You can buy vintage LV bags for a good price tho. I see vintage speedy and alma for like $300 or $400. I got my keepall bandouliere 55 preloved vintage for $360 from my birth year, 1991. I took it to LV to get all the vachetta replaced for $960. I think it was worth it because a brand new keepall bandouliere 55 at the store is $1,990.
I bought an Givenchy Antigona on Vestiaire Collective and it was perfect and I was really happy. I then bought a YSL bag from VC and it went through their ‘authenticity dept’ and it turned out to be FAKE! I was only able to return as the tags were still attached but even the refund mysteriously failed and my credit card company got involved to insist on the refund. Just be careful with VestiaireCollective.
I would love to see a video of vintage items that you keep an eye out for. If you don't want to share specific styles, maybe you could talk generally about accessories/styles generally that you look for to fit in with your personal styles, or maybe specific decades for specific brands that you pay attention to. Alternatively, I would love to see a video of vintage items (not just bags, but jewelry and such too) you have bought and why/how they've worked out for you (I know we see them generally in unboxings/hauls, but I'm always interested to hear thoughts after having the item for a while
Fleur! Just the other day I was literally searching for your video where Mike bought you a vintage Chanel brooch (or am I going mad and imagined that?) it was from a while ago but couldn’t find it. Anyway thanks for this video xx
Love this! I would really like to see a vlog of the process if possible so I could you looking at different bags, how you search and then possibly through to getting a bag and seeing it compared to the original post.
Ebay does have a service called Ebay Authenticate. Certain bags can be purchased that show the special symbol and that means authentication is included. I still have things I purchase independently authenticated though just in case! For what you are spending, an extra $15-$20 for piece of mind is ok with me!
So informative and so interesting, especially for a person like me who had no idea of designer vintage trade. Thank you for explaining it in such detail
I don't buy anything with leather and these bags are also wayyyy out of my price range, but I still love the look of chanel bags (my favorite designer brand by far). So won't be buying but will still be watching! 🙂
Loved this video, I’ve recently started collecting Chanel vintage, I bought a lamb skin flap bag in good condition however I’m sending it to the Restory for some TLC, highly recommend them! 😀 watching this video makes me want to expand my little collection!
This video is so informative and interesting! I would love to purchase a vintage Chanel bag but I am so indecisive on which kind to get and am a little scared because I am not as experienced in spotting the fakes 🙈
It’s happened to me twice with VC as well. I take photos of all their comments and description and then I have the right to return. It has to meet the description.
When you say barter, did you mean to bargain for a better price? From my understanding bartering means to trade something without the exchange of money.
I have to say, I once found a Chanel jacket for $70 at Buffalo Exchange. It looked real and on a separate occasion when I was offloading my own stuff I saw the buyer reject a woman's fake Vuitton bags because they do not sale fakes (hence I think the jacket was the real deal). I did not buy the jacket. I still regret it 10 years later
I hear alot of people use the real real website to buy pre own items aswell. The price seems to be more lower than far fetch. But they don’t have a return policy which i think is not great if not happy with the purchase. But far fetch they don’t say much about how the conditions is. What do you recommend? Also i like to hear a video about the types of material the bags are which is the best one go far.
I wouldn’t recommend Vestiaire at all. The Vestiaire authentication and quality checks can be very poor. I paid extra for this but they didn’t pick up on that a Chloe Drew Mini was in fact a Nano bag and had so many deep leather marks and black marks on the top, they still sent it to me in that condition. Had to fight them that it wasn’t as described, very stressful, took many emails, chats. They then wanted me to have it back or they would list it for me, then giving me 24 hours to respond whilst I was travelling and away for the weekend. Had to spend ages pulling out different parts of their terms and conditions to show where both they and seller breached it. They relented eventually but really tried to put a lot of pressure on me to accept the bag, some people may not have stood their ground so much
Women were not smaller when it comes to vintage clothing, the fashion industry just does not have a proper sizing standards for clothing sizes especial now that the industry has embrace vanity sizing
Not absolutely sure that they can refuse to take back online items purchased, perhaps it is different for pre owned and where they are merely agents for third party sellers

Hello, what website do you recommend to verify authenticity? Great video btw!
I mean. I am never got a buy one. But love watching anyway

When you say barter, did you mean to bargain for a better price? From my understanding bartering means to trade something without the exchange of money.
In the UK, we say barter like to compromise on pricing, trying to get it lower than the asking price :) x
Cloe good to know! thanks for the clarification! :)

Chloe handbags are always my favourite. Chanel i love everything from handbags and wallets and jewellery. Dior i love there jewellery mostly.

Do I only own one bag, which I got off of Amazon for $20 and have zero interest in purses of all kinds? Yes. Am I still watching this video? Also yes.
Very interesting information! I wish you'd shown examples of what you've bought though.
I bought a pre loved WOC lamb skin and the little pillows deflated :,( so sad about that
Please share where that necklace you are wearing is from 😍

Are you full on vegan or just on a plant based diet? What are your thoughts on both?
Take a look at some of the epi leather from Vuitton from the 80s amazing and still wonderful to us3 today
Can we see your vintage collection please?
The thing is they don’t wear in a bag to make it vintage. They advertise it as vintage but in as new condition
Antiques are 100 years old or more not 50.
How about vintage? I read that it’s anything over 10 years old.
@@thestagemommy_ no vintage is 20 years.
Awww so my 11 year old Chanel handbag is just an old bag.
@@thestagemommy_ haha well its still Chanel so that's always a good thing
You’re right but still I’ll pretend it’s vintage. LOL. Thanks for answering my query.
Great!!

Am pretty sure that’s not what barter means ...
