The cobra is considered sacred by Buddhists. When Siddhartha was in the forest doing his meditating rain began to fall. And the cobra spread it's hood over him. Siddhartha blessed him by pressing his fingers against the hood. That's why cobras often have a mark on the back of their hood.

Ok. I’ve heard this before and curious to know: what makes a snake a ‘cobra’ and what is it that makes a King Cobra not a ‘true cobra’?
It’s confusing so far in my research. This is wiki so may be limited.
They are in the same family distinguished by fang position essentially, then when I look at why they are distinguished by genus, there’s no such description why. And then when I look at the list of genus under the family, king cobras genus ophiophagus is not even listed.

My favorite cobra as long as I don't watch them kill cute animals. In that case I root for the furry animals protecting their young. They're welcome to all the rats they want, that's different, I cheer the Cobra then. They are so smart.

King cobras eat mostly other snakes, sometimes monitor lizards :)
