  • Adjusted the bias and DC offset for my Sansui 8080DB. Picked this up from a guy in Aurora, IL maybe 2 years ago. I’ve never opened it until tonight.
Power supply and internals are very clean with no heat evidence. And while this is a Dolby unit, I don’t touch the controls and it has the preferred black ribbon cable if I/someone needs to get in there in the future. And the Dolby board looks good at this point visually.
All original bulbs, low hours, I wasn’t sure what to expect from adjusting the DC and bias. Sure enough they were all off and it’s back to spec as of now.
Performed a good clean out for some general dust, including the bottom panel when removed, which you can tell if it’s never been opened. Also gave it the Deoxit treatment and such.
This is a close tie in comparison of sound quality to my Sansui G-9000.
Here’s a video of tonight adjustments and performance.

Where do you connect the current meter probes when adjusting current bias (generally speaking, say if one does not have a service manual to indicate where to connect)? Thanks!

Each receiver is different. Some have actual spots with numbers for you attach a probe. Others, you just have to attach to the end of a resistor or other part. Sometimes a transistor.
You really have to refer to the service manual because the numbers you’re looking for are dictated there, there isn’t always a universal number that every receiver should be at.
