  • Lets be honest, most people think of egg patterns as "not real flies". While that may be true, no one can argue that they aren't effective. There are times of the year, and certain fisheries that eggs can be one of the best flies you can use. Use it as an attractor, and at times you can use it as your main fly.
    While eggs aren't prestigious, or fancy, they will catch fish. So give them a try if you haven't before. The nice thing is, they are so easy to tie, you can tie 30+ an hour. Sit down, grab a drink, and tie them up in whatever colors you want. Load up a box, and you will be good for a few weeks of fishing!

    Hello and thanks for the demonstration. I have tied several of these but I use two colors of yarn. Must have learned it from someone. I like the contrast and it seems to fish well. All the best and thanks for sharing. All the best, Sean

      +Sean Mooney yeah they are nicer with two colors for sure. But I am going for simple and quick with this. I tie up hundreds of these a day at the fly shop I work for, and it's all about speed there. So anything that adds time is not done. And while I like the look of the two colors better, it will take a bit longer to tie. This is the quickest way I know to tie, so the quickest way to fill a box.

    I like it! I'm starting to tie flies and I think I can handle this one. Back when I started fly fishing I used Glo-bugs with a squirt of attractant for stocked rainbows in the Sierras. Worked great if not cheating a bit. Thanks for the video, it's very helpful.

      They work for that for sure! We used to use them for steelhead in the Napa river when the salmon were spawning. The trout would sit and wait for the eggs to come down stream and gorge on them. Was some of the easiest fishing I have ever done! HAHA

      @McFlyAngler  6 лет назад

      No problem man! Yeah that helps for sure huh? Less waste. However it does take slightly longer, and therefor maybe not worth it? Depends I guess. This way I posted here is faster, but it does have some waste.

    • @j.k.hobbyist9736
      @j.k.hobbyist9736 6 лет назад

      Yeah still really helpful for tying. A little waste isn’t to big of a deal when first starting.

    Hey mcfly can i use the salmon egg color of glo bugs yarn?

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  6 лет назад

      Use any color you would like to! :) Its a technique video, but that doesn't mean you have to do it exact. Just make it better for your area. Color, size, etc...

    Would super fine dubbing work for this??

  • @mrwjobs1972ify
    @mrwjobs1972ify 6 лет назад

    after u cut thr material instead of rolling it in ur hand.. with the tip of ur nail while the fly is still in the vise.. pluck the end of the hook.. it will make the egg perfect..

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  6 лет назад

      Yeah I have seen that also, however for some reason it doesn't come out quite as perfect for me. Not sure if im doing something wrong. Maybe its the material I use...

    Hi I'm new to fly fishing would this be a go good dry fly dropper

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  3 года назад

      Well this would be fine to drop behind a dry fly, with a little weight added sure.

    • @glennsands9127
      @glennsands9127 3 года назад

      .020 lead free is about right size to tie down the spine of the hook. Will sink without sinking the dry fly. Also holds a chubby or the like down in surface making it a more realistic float.

      @holyworrier why bother telling people your never going to tie this great egg pattern? And, as a bonus, eggs are part of the food that the trout eat that occur NATURALLY, so it’s the same as imitating a caddis larvae or a Baetis nymph. And, corn can work really good sometimes! So okay you purist, welcome to modern fly fishing
