  • In this video I walk you through my struggles with bonking hard when running - and how I actually solved the 3 issues that were contributing to it. Electrolytes are such an overlooked part of running success, especially when you start running faster and longer. I show you how to make your own electrolyte rocket fuel so that you can run faster - without ending up paying for it!
You can't run faster if you aren't hydrated and fuelled - so get around it!

Great info! Thanks. You use calcium citrate, yes?

Calcium carbonate - more concentrated form compared to citrate :)

so what the heck do you recommend for those of us are lazy, I mean busy (full time job with 5 kids), and want to just buy a product that has the right blend of electrolytes for our drinks?

Great question - and my answer is that I’m honestly not sure. The problem is that a lot of these pre-formulated brands are so expensive that I’ve only tried a few.
Probably can’t go wrong with the electrolyte tablets that fizz in water that you can buy from the running brands. But DIY will always be value for money

Just wanned to point out. If there is not a split line made by the company its not 50/50 down the middle on the magnesium pill

Great how you pointed out that people need to pay attention to absorbtion rates. I don't know where you got 8% for magnesium citrate though. Doesn't make sense to me. Also, magnesium citrate can have a laxative effect, so test how it works for you. Don't wanna shit your pants on raceday.

I grabbed it and the calcium absorption rate from a biochemistry book I still have from my University days haha!
Interesting - I haven't had any issues thankfully.

Laxative effect only happens when take too much magnesium, so as urine retention. So I guess testing is needed for every individual.

How did you consume it? Dry? Or did you dissolve it in water?

I added it into my 100 grams of carbs per hour drink bottle with water on my ride

lol I’ve been considering electrolytes after watching snake diet dude, 30 people have told me I drink too much water and I probably pee out all my electrolytes, I am the salt king tho haha not sure if I can feel or see improvement from the last few days so far

Yeah I too chug water all day long and I've noticed a difference for sure. We don't eat a great deal of electrolytes on HCLF so makes sense that we should add some in here and there

    'what could go wrong'? 😆
but seriously, calling yourself a non-runner after 6 months break isn't really accurate imo ;)
