Hi, Roro spool for bsf 2016 aldebaran are still in production and sold on Aliexpress for around 75 usd, as well as on the Roro website. I just bought and installed a Red one on my reel. Packaging is as safe as the one you are showing, but thanks for the video anyway. 👍
Any chance from all your testing you have any concerns about the after market spools being crush and/or warping do to catching a heavy fish, using braid, or pulling out from a snag?
The roro and avail spool I wouldnt dare pull a snag even with light light. This Chameleon spool seems robust like the stock but it does not have the internal support ribs like the stock but either way, if Im fishing BFS Im not pulling snags using the reel, Im using my arm or a stick
I've been waiting for ya to get around to this video... Mine should be here this week I was waiting for the Gold one to come back in stock.. It's very hard to beat the stock spool.. I'd almost bet the chameleon spool would do better if you switched out the bearing it comes with with the stock Shimano bearing... After doing my own trout magnet tests along with several other bfs shootouts.. I'm leaning towards the bearings the Aldebaran and conquest come with to be as important as the braking system.. anyway nice video and it sounded like the 2lb test was starting to get caught in both spools.. I haven't had that issue with my stock Aldebaran spool yet but the bkII has horrible tolerances and the LingL does basically what I heard both your reels doing in the video.. you can feel and hear the line sort of in between the spool and frame but it never actually goes all the way through so you're able to just pull the backlash out.. My opinion is that a spool like this would really help the scorpion or curado out .. I'll have to try mine out though to see what my thoughts are
yep the 2lb mono got caught up a little in both spools but not bad enough to have to take off the side plate. Ive done measured casting with the Shimano JDM spec bearings vs Hedghog Airs and there was no difference between them.
Quite a testament to the stock Aldebaran spool and bearings. The vast majority of BFS fishermen woudn't need to make any upgrades. The DIY takes an interesting approach with the shorter shaft but I gotta wonder about the shaft to pin interface. Still, looks like a quality product.
I was running the spool tension just loose enough for the spool shaft not to touch the pin. Decent upgrade though if you dont want to spend the $110 on the avail
I was considering this spool (at 75.00 Canadian) but since I'm not going to be throwing the trout magnet or using 2lb test mono, I don't see the point. The aldebaran is an awesome reel as is. Thanks for an informative and educational video as always. 👍
It seems to me that the two piece spool shaft implimentation would impair the functioning of the drive side spool bearing for two reassons. 1. The spool can spin at the juncture of the extention piece and 2. the rigidity of the spool shaft to bearing interface is lost because of the inherent flexability at the joint. I like the Chamelion spools a lot, but I won't be getting this one.
I think Chameleon is working on a Curado/SLX Bfs spool. I know Avail has had 2 Scorpion BFS spools for a few years now. It looks discontinued but they brought it back as the SLX BFS spool upgrade
Have you seen any information on the 21 Daiwa Alphas Air TW 7.1 that is supposed to launch next week? I could tell any specs on Daiwa Japan Website since I don’t speak Japanese. Curious if any differences other than ratio versus 20 Alphas Air TW
So , just as expected.if you’re not doing super ultra light stuff like ajiing or trout magnets the chameleon and alike diy spools are unnecessary.Sub 2gr range they increase ease of casting and accuracy.Nonetheless if you re looking for a spare spool chameleon seems like a good choice with less price 👍🏻. Thanks for the detailed review and comparison. But I still think not using braid limits the capacity of these diy spools.
What are you gonna catch with such a small line capacity gold fish , I think this is getting out of control myself I like 200m plus of line on any of my reels. Nice Insight to what they can do good job .
They all look awesome until you cover them with line and never see them again until line change. 😂 I would forgo a few grams in weight for the new spools and go for a stronger deeper spool and switch to a spinner for light applications.. Cool comparison though. Hard to beat stock Aldebaran but if anyone can do it , it would be you.. Thanks for sharing..
hi, thanks for great comparison vids. btw I tested my magnet setting for Avail spool by applying 4 Avail magnets on one side of the FTB brake and 3 magnets on another one side of the FTB brake and the resault was really good for me (lures that I test was 0.8gram and 0.6 gram micro spoon . if you try this please share us your opinion. :)
Honestly,I don't think that this spool worth the money,I had the same spool bought it in China, cost me around 46usd,it is cheap, but as I said, it is not worth it,I had change back to the stock spool for my Aldebaran,fo me I will consider the avail spool more then the chameleon ,the production accuracy is too low.

@@THEREELTEST I have the Avail spool but it's way over priced, especially when you consider how expensive the Aldebaran is to start with.
Avail is made in Japan, it's cost of japanese labor.
I’ve found that if you run just a little tighter on the spool tension that the chameleon spool casts a bit better

Some extra tuning capability is good.
Awesome!
I want to have one for myself, but everywhere sold out 😭
Could we please 🙏 get a Roro spool battle vs chameleon spool?? Also do you think a different bearing could help the chameleon cast further??
And BTW,I think you can upgrade your spool bearings for lighter lures casting.
it depends on the reel. For Shimano BFS, changing the bearings will not help
It will, if switch to goog full ceramic.
Hello THE REEL TEST. Can you help me find bfs shallow spol for AlloyM? I order second one from AliExpress and not fit ... please mate .Thank you
Any help guys ..? I need that bfs spool for Alloy M
I dont think there is one for that reel, but your best bet is to contact Piscifun directly
@@THEREELTEST Thanks for reply. I contacted the piscifun direct and they don't even know exact size for original spool of Alloy M...hahahahahhajahaa
Great comparison video per usual. Any idea if anyone will make something solitary for Scorpion BfS/Curado BFS/SLX BFS?
I think Chameleon is working on a Curado/SLX Bfs spool. I know Avail has had 2 Scorpion BFS spools for a few years now. It looks discontinued but they brought it back as the SLX BFS spool upgrade
Hy! I wanted to ask you does all your aldebaran bfs has a ton of play in the ftb sistem as well or it's just mine?
Good news!

Ive seen it, looks to be just adding the slower ratio, everything else is the same
Do you pan on checking out he new shimano nasci
could you do a 2021 curado baitcaster rod review
eh.. not unless Shimano send s me one. Looks like the old Zodias rods to me

Can you turn say the shimano aldebaran 50 mgl into bfs by swapping spools?
no, different brakes, different spool bearing housing in the frame
@@THEREELTEST ok thanks

I did come to the conclusion that using all 8 extra magnets on the avail spool was overkill, but great into the wind
Can you fit this spool to a stock Aldebaran 50?
no
Compatible For kastking zephyr?
How does the distance compare between the chameleon and the avail with 1g lures
“Special spool scale” 😂
