You're the first reviewer of this camera I have found that actually discussed the PICTURE taking ability of this camera! Thank you for the in depth and honest review - you've earned another sub.
Oh really? That is surprising. I'm glad I could help. As always, whether a camera is good is down to the user. But I have used this camera more as time has gone on. For the money it's great! Thanks for the sub! 👍
Wow, at last someone, who understands cameras. 4:09 that eye tracking AF in video is awesome, it isn't available in A7III (2018 February), I think it was the A6400 (2019, January), which brought eye tracking and unlimited recording to video, and that was revolutionary. The RX100vii (2019, July) was released after A6400, but I am not sure if the VII has eye tracking and unlimited video. I am pretty sure Sony brings 10-bit video to the next iteration of ZV cameras. 6:31 2-stop ND filter to avoid diffraction and increasing shutter speed too much.
Thank you, I'm sure there are others than know more haha! So impressed with the AF. And 10 bit in the new ZV cameras sould be a big upgrade. Lets see if they can do it and keep the price low. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and for your in depth comments 👍
I've bought this as a point and shoot to replace my old DSC HX60. And I am just loving it. I only miss a little more zoom. I'm not vlogging but I could even do it with this one. Great video from a new perspective of this camera.
Thnak you for watching! I think we can all make our own little improvements to fit our needs, but as I always say, I'm a big fan of this camera at it's price point. Glad you're a fan too! 🙌
It's a perfect timelapse camera. When I'm shooting an event with my other gear, I prop this somewhere and let it do it's thing. Great with the built in "ND".
This footage was shot in standard picture profile and adjusted in post. I somtimes shoot in s-log 3, but with it only being 8-bit colour I find it easier to shoot standard and then tweak 👌
Hey paul, I too am late to the party for this little Sony gem. I normally sport a Black magic 6K pro rig and find it just too cumbersome for fast point and shoot work plus a camera phone no matter the hype, just don't deliver and I'm fed up of all those on screen buttons. Think Ill be nipping down to my local Currys and making a purchase. Great review 👏
Thanks for watching and your kind words Ken. The camera is really good in my opinion. The buttons can be a bit fiddly - but for the price and image quality...you can't have everything! If you do purchase it - I hope it does a job for you 🙌
Thanks for this, i've been hemming and hawing over this camera but this answers the questions I had that a lot of other videos didnt. Not so much interested in a vlogging camera as a good pocket camera and maybe the occasional RUclips type video.
Thanks for watching!! This certainly does the job. I have used this on a number of shoots in certain situations. The quality stands up. It's not a perfect camera, as the buttons can be fiddly, but for the price the quality is excellent!
Damn, you Sir are amazing! I marked this video to watch later and at that time you were at 10 subs. Now you 10x your sub count in such a short period of time and I can see why! Amazing video!! Everyone can clearly see your over 20 years of experience in the business. You got yourself another sub :) Greetings from Germany!
Thank you for your kind words. The subs are going up which has blown me away. I'm pleased everyone is enjoying the content. Hopefully more soon! Thanks again! 🎥 🙌
Hi Gordon...no gimbal for these videos, but yes a lot of ninja walking! Any minor shakes were taken out with warp stabiliser, but they were only minor. Thank you for watching!
With the ZV-1 I just use the standard picture profile. I'm not big fan of changing the settings in camera. I prefer to do it in post. In post I tweak it to look similar to s-cinetone if I'm matching 👍
Awesome video bro......I've been wanting to some some NON-Vlog Videos from this camera by professional videographers. Hey....it would be great if you could do a short product commercial (Daniel Schiffer Style) to let us see what this camera can do in that regard. I
Great video. The screen apparently dims when shooting in 4K to prevent overheating. How much of an issue is this on a bright day? Does it compare favouably to a smartphone screen?
I'll be honest, I haven't paid much attention to the screen brightness on the camera. As long as it works, that's all mattered :) No camera screen is as good as a smart phone screen in my experience. Lower nit value and lower resolution compared to smart phones. Thank you for watching!
Actually, yes it does work as as vlog camera. I just did so. You compensate for the narrower field of view by using this lovely camera with a tripod. :) Thanks for the review overall.
As far as I am aware, because it's optical zoom, there is no loss in image quality. There is, however, a change in the aperture from 1.8 to 2.8 as you zoom. But if you set it and shoot at 2.8 all the time, there is not loss in light. Hope that helps :)
I’ll be honest, I’ve not used the RX100 III, so I can’t really answer that question. But I would certainly use the ZV-1 more for video rather than photos 👍
There are quite a few to mention. I love the built in ND filter, 100fps 1080p and the crisp 4k 25/30fps. But for the size of it and what it does - it's a great package! 🎥

This is such a high quality video, should really have so many more views.
Thank you for this - I hope the algorithm thinks so too! Thank you for your positivity, I really appreciate it! 🙌

Great video sir
Thank you, and I appreciate you taking the time to watch!
Love my zv1 about to buy another as a back up !
You know it makes sense! :) Thank you for taking the time to watch!

As an artisan, I appreciate the spin shot on the table. That must have been a challenge.
Thank you....I think I got it on the third go! But pleased you noticed it...just proves it's always worth experimenting with shots 🎥👌
It's a perfect timelapse camera. When I'm shooting an event with my other gear, I prop this somewhere and let it do it's thing. Great with the built in "ND".
I believe it can do so many jobs - and this is proof it can do another! 👌
Hello, I have bought this cam too besides to my a7s III. Is your sample footage here shot in HLG3? Thanks, nice video thumbs up
This footage was shot in standard picture profile and adjusted in post. I somtimes shoot in s-log 3, but with it only being 8-bit colour I find it easier to shoot standard and then tweak 👌
@@PaulGarrity thanks alot :)

Nicely done! Little to no shake on your video clips...did you use Catalyst Browse or a gimbal on any? Ninja walking?
Hi Gordon...no gimbal for these videos, but yes a lot of ninja walking! Any minor shakes were taken out with warp stabiliser, but they were only minor. Thank you for watching!
I love my Sony ZV-1 mighty small but powerful in every way.
Totally agree...so glad I got one!
What picture profile would you recommend using to match up video or look better? I upgraded to Sony a7iv (first pro ish camera)
With the ZV-1 I just use the standard picture profile. I'm not big fan of changing the settings in camera. I prefer to do it in post. In post I tweak it to look similar to s-cinetone if I'm matching 👍
Nothing wrong with vlogging at 24mm. They have wide angle adapter now too. Plus with selfie sticks you can get the camera further away.
Thank you for commenting! I guess there's no right answer. I just prefer a wider field of view.
i think if you include crane m2s gimble and its going to be pro setup
Nice video and great presentation of information.
Thank you very much - I'm pleased you enjoyed the video! 👍
Great review Paul 👏 I love my ZV1 😍 best cinematic greetings from germany
Thank you so much again!!

Daniel sets the bar so high...I wouldn't know where to start! ;) I'll see if I get a chance! Thank you for watching!!
Great video. The screen apparently dims when shooting in 4K to prevent overheating. How much of an issue is this on a bright day? Does it compare favouably to a smartphone screen?

You're welcome! Enjoy your camera! :)
How is it with regards to overheating?
I've never had it overheat when I've been shooting with it - including 100fps and 4K. So I can only base that on my experience with the camera.
Paul Garrity Indoors or outdoors and with what continuous amount of shooting footage? Or did you use it in short 20 min bursts?
yes it is more than a vlogging camera.. thank you sir.
I was so surprised with it. Thank you for watching!
@@PaulGarrity welcome sir
I have it too! So convenient! 😊
It really is!! Thank you for watching!
When we zoom in, would it decrease the image quality of photo/video?
As far as I am aware, because it's optical zoom, there is no loss in image quality. There is, however, a change in the aperture from 1.8 to 2.8 as you zoom. But if you set it and shoot at 2.8 all the time, there is not loss in light. Hope that helps :)
Why am I feeling that photos taken with my old RX 100 III are sharper than ZV-1 photos? Please correct me if I am wrong.
I’ll be honest, I’ve not used the RX100 III, so I can’t really answer that question. But I would certainly use the ZV-1 more for video rather than photos 👍
if the next iteration of this camera has IBIS and a wider lens whilst still maintaining fast speed (eg., f1.8) it will be amazing
I totally agree. I think the 1.8 might be a bit too much for the low price - but we can all dream! Thanks for stopping by!
I love this camera so much!! So convenient hehehe
Totally agree 100%! Thank you for watching!
nice vid. I have 3 zv1 cams lol :)
Thank you very much, glad you like it. And if you have three - you must be a massive fan of it! Cheers for watching!
Where can i buy this 🙄 online ?
It's available everywhere including online 👍
Or just give us 20-50 mm to make it a better vlogging camera cuz every mm in wider side is so important
I agree, you'd need at least 20mm for vlogging. So we'll see what they do with a ZV-2 if they make one.
What is the best feature you like about this camera?
There are quite a few to mention. I love the built in ND filter, 100fps 1080p and the crisp 4k 25/30fps. But for the size of it and what it does - it's a great package! 🎥
@@PaulGarrity Thank you for the information
I will never get it cuz 24mm as widest is too wide for me at least 20mm is must if you want to vlog
As I say, it's not really built for vlogging. But I have used it for other shoots and it works very well 👍
Underated but overtly priced
I got mine on a deal for around £550. I thought that was good 👍 it comes in very useful on occasion 🎥
