    There aren't any bad jobs, its up to individuals who play and understand the strengths to them. When I first played dnd, it was a setting in the Capitol. We had a beast ranger who in rp was a exotic exhibition for animals to the local wildlife of the non aggression . She used the rats to survey and follow our list of culprits. Our rogue hoped the rooftops to gather evidence for a crime we never commited while my guy was held for trial.

      @TheSinisterheroes turns out it was the whole damn court itself that needed an excuse to kill grija for simply being a minotaur. Basically, they were " purest " who view citizens like Grija as subservient cattle slaves and nothing more. Clearing my good name mattered little as it turned out. They just wanted to show it as a display of control over their people while the real victims never got real justice. So we did the unthinkable, the rouge and ranger got me out will sending messenger birds to a kingdom that did see all as equals and caused a war. That war also revealed a far more dire truth as it was directly above the underdarks capital. The teachings of lolths very cruelty was being taught by the drows elders in secret to the peoples of the Rasenburns nobility, it's citizens and even it's cabinets, marketers, hunters.. practically everyone in twisted beliefs of lolths only viewing purity as absolute. Eventually, our king, who was our paliden before I joined, realized how grim it all was to have the underdarks wickedness ideologies surfaced and taught, a ramification that must be prevented at all costs. Near the end of our campaign, we founded a direct tunnel leading to the cathedral of lolth in the very underdark with the vile king in silent prair, while this was happening Grija as well as our dueragar armorer were fighting Grijas most hated enemy, a nasty hill giant that killed his daughter, broke his horns and laughed in his face while having me in headlock. The king was the drow elder in disguise and became lolths avatar... It took all of us to bury it all for those unable to escape prejudice. To this day, it blew my mind on how amazing dnd is for that very story is my introduction on not just a fun game, but how storytelling can truly be implemented.

    • @TheSinisterheroes
      @TheSinisterheroes  Месяц назад +2

      That is an awesome campaign. Its stays with you when your part of something that great. Kinda jealous. But so happy that Grija had that moment of revenge and heroism.

      @dannyleo5787 Месяц назад +1

      @@TheSinisterheroes everyone that participated in the campaign were already trying to break into fantasy novels back in 2009 and being a first year was life adjustments. Our dm was a diabolical smart ass 🤣 made it a running gag that Grija slept in the stables during the campaign. At the core of it all, the story we were in was morally about finding your own truth. Our paliden became a king not for his father’s deeds but bring more fairness to the less fortunate. Our rogue beast master devoted her youth to understanding wildlife across the world. Our duregaur dreamed of being a man of adamantine and crafted til he couldn’t no more, until he did by being inspired by Grija’s stern physic, tenacity and humbleness to offer his services like pulling the wagon across lands to save on horses. Our shadow warlock whom lived at the kingdom had to unlearn his behaviors to better understand people, and except all. And for Grinja, he had to learn to let go of his deep fury, despite it being his greatest strength, it would have inevitably killed him, so he reflected back to his days as a very young sailer of the seas, and even to this day he is at peace across the totem’s isles were he fishes for a living, laughs and loves when he is visited by his friends.

    I didnt play the beastmaster but swarm keeper with a little female halfling who summoned deadly butterflies. I had average stats but she did well. I took two weapon fighting and dual weild feat. At level 6 i was +6 to hit without magic weapons still but 1d8+3 rapier plus 1d6 for either favoured foe or hunters mark plus swarm allows an extra 1d6 piercing once per turn. Then second arrack rapier is extra 1d8+3 then off hand i had scimitar for 1d6 +3. Not bad for a little girl with butterflies...on one attack i used the swarms move ability instead of 1d6 piercing to move enemy 15 feet instead and drop them off a cliff. Was a fun character

      The tactical ability of the swarm keeper is great and when not needed the extra damage is awesome. I really enjoyed playing it. If you got to high level that swarming dispersal is just to die for!

    Small race benefits from medium-sized companions for mounted combat & lances but sometimes, I just want to play the game with a pet. Honestly, I prefer the original Beast Master Ranger.
    It pairs exceptionally well with Arcana Cleric for Nystul's Magic Aura. Now you can treat any medium-sized creature of CR ¼ as a "beast" for qualifying as a Ranger's Companion.

    • @TheSinisterheroes
      @TheSinisterheroes  Месяц назад +1

      Really surprised you prefer the original beast master, that seems unusual to me. Mainly because all your builds and ideas are so well formulated, and have a clear strength in their strategy. Maybe there is something you’re seeing clearer than I am. I’d love to know what that particular knowledge is.

      @@TheSinisterheroes I like the complexities of it. While it probably won't happen, you can legitimately start off with a dinosaur. How to roleplay that is beyond me, maybe an egg found as an archeologist? I like the possibility of playing Disney Princesses or Studio Ghibli characters like Ashitaka and Yakul. Yakul is a red Elk, but the closest qualifying creature is a deer.
      Instead of playing a Wizard, you can play a Ranger as a Witch with an actual cat or crow instead of a Familiar... or better yet, start off with Ritual Caster & get both a Cat Companion & Crow Familiar or vice versa. Or with Tavern Brawler to attack with a Broom & Grapple as a Bonus Action with Canny Expertise: Athletics. Or with Poisoner, apply poisons from your own mixes or your poisonous companions that can be found easy with Detect Poison & Disease, harvested with Canny Expertise: Nature.
      Another is Actor Feat, with Canny Expertise: Deception & Druidcraft. Now if there's any question if the animal sounds from Druidcraft through the Druidic Warrior Fighting Style were real or fake, well, it'd probably sound real most of the time. Eventually, your Companion can Help you make the Deception checks.

    The biggest issue I had with the serpent master ranger I played is movement kept restricting everything I could do & then the game ended earlier than expected too. I was hoping I could find a way to make it work, but between my bad rolls, saves always being behind, the movement issues I seemed to keep running into & the game ending early it just kind of made it less than desirable & I have not tried it again. Though the halfling flying-beast master really inspires me to try again. Finding a DM that would allow me to have a Pteranodon 3rd level though might be difficult.

    Tasha's Beastmaster sort of ruins the entire point of the Beastmaster class. Is it better mechanically? Arguably, yes. Certainly cleaner than the PHB version. But the PHB version is actually really good -IF- you understand that your Ranger exists to support the beast companion, not the other way around.

    • @TheSinisterheroes
      @TheSinisterheroes  19 дней назад +1

      I always considered it not as the beast first but as you and the beast as one entity, as opposed to two separate ones. You are right in your thought process, as you begin to shift from just what your character does, to what you do as a team, that’s where the real understanding comes in.

    • @Jvstm

      @@TheSinisterheroes Often people will complain about the survivability of the companion but honestly they're incredibly tanky and RAW only limits the companion to CR 1/4 at level 3 or if you have to commune with a new one. @@TheSinisterheroes hey speaking of subclasses there's a sorcerer subclass feature that I've always had a problem with it's the expanded spell list that almost everyone has been saying should be on every subclass and while I'm not against the additional prepared spells what bothers me is the ability to swap those spells and pull spells from the wizard spell list and I was just curious if my reasoning for not liking this feature because it steps on the wizards toes too much is valid or not. Am I just being retarded here or is the dislike reasonable? I really need a second opinion here
