This reminded me so much of vanilla CS:1 where I was fighting the UI more than playing the game. Mods were God sent and arguably what makes the game such a success. It's a shame CS:2 did not incorporate a lot of the essentials from CS:1, like traffic manager and node controller.

Mods are great, but in fairness CS2 did incorporate some of the most basic elements of traffic manager (such as banning some turn directions, and the advanced traffic AI, and more realistic parking) and some elements of node controller (you can stretch, twist or shift a segment or node by drawing over it or using the replace tool). But I agree the full functionality is a long way off what we used to have with mods. But it's still early days, most of those mods came years after CS1 was released.

The foundation is there (much more robust than CS:1 could ever have dreamed of!) - it's just a matter of time now.

Wow. It's hilarious that you can force the game to do what you want with such a slight skew.

It's called a work-around. People have been using work-arounds for this game since its release.

Very helpful and well explained video. I can't believe they are still forcing us into these bizarre workarounds though.

I've found myself doing most of those things you mentioned at the very end. Jughandles and such, to get around the lack of protected lefts.
I was pretty proud of myself, until the city kept growing and traffic actually disappeared. I deleted it all and went back to a standard intersection.

Much as it sucks for traffic flow, I kinda dig the appearance of the flattened-stack interchange

this sounds more like a workaround of a bug or missing feature then a challenge to me!

Do you mind sharing like a pdf of these intersection layouts and all the graphics so I have like a handy cheat sheet available to me when I build my cities

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually experimented with PDFs back during the Cities Skylines 1 days and found that they didn't capture as much attention as my videos. Despite being less work than videos, a good PDF still takes quite some time. So right now, I'm really focused on creating more videos to keep delivering enjoyable content. Appreciate your understanding and support!

fantastic discussion. i agree with the displaced lefts. i was disappointed to see that turning traffic does not yield to through traffic. it kinda gripes that despawning is so constant. at least public transport should be exempted. despawning public transit is probably more harmful to traffic than helpful. where's "hard" mode?

Thank you. This is what I've been waiting for. I want to create a 3:30 intersection, but it doesn't come out pretty. Can you also post a production video? I really want to see it.

I can describe it, if that helps. I made an intersection with parallel roadways as seen at 0:50, then with snapping off I used the replace network tool to shift the roads to widen the node giving as big a gap between as I could without the intersection markings looking too weird. Then I just drew a 2-way road through at roughly 3-degree angle to the other networks (snapping still off), not aligned to anything, just looking by eye if it was roughly even. Then attached 1-way, 1-lane ramps to each end of the 2-way road. I don't know how replicable that is in a video, as it was mostly just 'keep re-trying until it looks good'.

I can’t even get the game to act like this with “traffic light enhancement” mod.. so frustrating 😂

This is all well and good, but not practical. I will wait until a good Traffic Manager that was like TMPE come out. Thanks

Indeed, it's something that you'd probably only do at highway/expressway intersections, though also those tend to be the busy ones. I'll be using the TLE mod for all the other traffic lights to control the phasing and set the lanes, but it will be nice to have even better control one day.
