- Philo is a Team Innova veteran and has championed the Roc since his early days of learning disc golf at Oak Grove in Pasadena, California. It was his first ace disc and the one that taught him all the flight possibilities with a disc. He's an undisputed Roc specialist.
The Roc was approved by the PDGA in 1987 and was the first true mid-range disc-a disc designed for long approaches and shorter drives. Since then, the Roc has been in the bag of countless World Champions. The KC Pro Roc is the signature disc of 12-time World Champion Ken Climo.
The Roc provides accuracy at any range. This disc will hold the angle of release, even into a headwind, and maintain a consistent flight. It can be used for straight, hyzer, or anhyzer upshots and short drives. The Roc ages gradually and predictably. If you’re not sure what disc to throw, choose the Roc.

Flight numbers: 4, 4, 0, 3
Available plastics: Star, KC Pro, Glow, DX Спорт
If Philo isn't the best spokesman for DG I don't know who is...
Nate Sexton is a good shout but still gotta go with Philo!
Make more Philo Rocs!! I would do anything to support that legend, but I can't throw Destroyers. 😂
Phil needs a raise... He's one of the main reasons I stayed with the game and always strive to get better.
This is about the 5th time I've watched this video. Philo is an absolute legend. He's influenced my game more than anyone. I bag nothing but Rocs in my midrange slot and got my first ace with a KC Pro Roc.
I keep coming back to watch this video, there’s something about it
Absolutely nobody better than Philo to give a breakdown of the DX Roc among many other things about the sport in general.. This guy is such a gem.
I love Philo. Putting him in a video is a surefire way to get me to like a video.
Need more screen time for Philo. One of my favorite players. Someone needs to Caddy for him for a year and videotape it. Thanks for talking me into my Roc3, Philo. Most trusted disc in my bag.
I’m with philo on this one. I had 3 R-Pro roc. And I still use them. Started playing 15 years ago and never liked them. So they collected dust on a shelf in the garage. Since September I have to have them in the bag. Philo is the best.
I love Philo. He's such a great and humble spokesman for the sport!
Throwing a DX roc is how I developed good form & honestly just learned how to throw. If I could only play a round with 1 disc it would definitely be a Roc. I've transitioned to throwing mostly Latitude64 over the years but nothing has ever replaced the roc in my bag.
You can tell the man really loves to play some disc golf .
I am new to this game and i missed his performance this year in my country. Hope to see this gentleman next summer in local events👍
Also bought my first Innova-disks yesterday, superb disks both of them
My first "Roc" was a DX Roc3 that was already seasoned when I bought it, and it changed my whole game. I call it my magic disc. The bead, the smooth, straight flight, the gentle fade...it's the most beautiful shot shape to me and the most satisfying to throw. Long live the Roc!
im buying two now after watching this again, DX Roc is the Truth. My first disc i bought was Roc3 Champ taught me sidearm and sidearm roller cuz i was new and threw accident rollers but now its a skill
Got my first ace ever with a DX Roc back in '08. Then hit the exact same ace, and hole, a year and a day later with the same Roc! (147g btw haha. Had no idea about weights back then!) Still have it, and I still throw DX, KC pros, and Glows as my go to midranges to this day!!!
That is super light weight
My first ace was with a KC pro.
There is no better disc in the game than the Roc. Wether you through KC Pro or DX, you will be able to throw every single possible shot in the game. It's a great teaching tool, and once you've learned everything it can teach you, it becomes the greatest weapon on the course. I will always love my DX Rocs
Bought my first Roc after watching this video, I immediately bought 3 more. I will bag the Roc for the rest of my life! It really is great!
New player here and this fella gave me good vibes. Great explanation on some disks and lifespan.
Bought 3 ' factory 2nd' DX Roc 3s on Mr. Philo's say-so. I avoided them forever because they aren't as durable. Now I see that 'getting beat in' is the way to learn the game. Nice to have instructors like Philo. Luv the game goin' on 4 decades now (64)
Absolutely my favorite mold. Great for landing close to basket without much skip.
I love all roc’s. I bag a dx roc, glow dx, both straight, a pretty new kc pro, champ roc3, and a champ glow rocX3.
The Roc’s been in my bag since I started. While I still keep some dx plastic in the bag, my Rocs and Roc3’s are all KC Pro now (2 of each). The DX plastic is for my drivers (Valkyrie, Eagle).
Premium plastic is ok for maintaining the integrity of flight characteristics, but dx teaches you to manipulate your discs.
Philo is awesome. players like him are a major reason that the sport is growing so fast
Still have my 2003 & 2004 "Worlds Biggest Disc Golf Weekend" Rocs from when I started and yeah they are WAY understable now...😂 For 250-300 range type shots, Rocs are my go-to. 4-5 in my bag at all times and just grab the appropriate age of wear to match the needed flight path. Fresh 180 Champ Roc3 when I need the most stability. KC Pro 11X was a siiiiiccckk run! Has a nice rigid feel to it. Philo nailed it in this video 👏 I'd put it right next to the Firebird as one of the most important discs ever made.
I still throw those "Worlds Biggest" Rocs too!
I remember the first tournament I played, the dx Roc was the player pack disc. I remember the first time I grabbed it, I thought, I'll NEVER throw this thing.
Skip ahead nearly four years later and I can't imagine NOT throwing a Roc.
... we should all love something as much as Philo loves the dx Roc!!!
He speaks the truth. DX Roc is truly unique.
The Roc3 is my favorite disc.
Philo is da truth!! Always word of wisdom ! Gotta get one of these ! For my bag 🤟
Great video Philo. Looking forward to seeing ya in CLT soon be safe ❤️
Philo is the man...... Smooth and silky style! Nuf said!
I bought a roc a couple months back after hearing philo talk about it so much on coverage. Probably throw it for 50% of my shots rn.
Love learning from Philo!
I agree Phillo 🤙🏼
Dx Roc ! After 30 yrs still my go to midrange and approach choice.
This man brushes his teeth with a DX Roc.
Got my first ace after about 4 or 5 months of playing in 2008 with a dx glow roc. It still hangs on my wall to this day. I fell in love with dg on that day although I have yet to ace that same hole again.
Solid truthful words right there.
He thoroughly represents the spirit of the sport.
I'm very surprised he throws DX plastic.
Pretty cool honestly
My first Roc was 1992. I still have it
One of the last times I threw a Roc. It was a flat top DX Roc. It was someone else's disc. I wasn't sure as to how it would fly as I tossed it to it's owner. It flipped to flat and went straight to it's owner. Absolutely beautiful.
I putt and approach with Really beat up DX Rocs. 150-25ft. They fly DEAD straight. Great and reliable disc. My first ace as well with one.
Best disc in disc golf
I’m a buzzz fan, but you still have to pay your respects to philo, innova, and the beautiful disc that is the roc
My first and only Ace back in the early 90's was a DX Roc, white with a rainbow stamp 180g.
the discraft roc is the MRV ;)
if anyone was curious, it was supposed to be the vortex but it's really the mrv
Just lost my 14 yo dx roc at rabbit flats in TO. I bought it back in the day from the og dude at oak grove who would post up on the weekends and sell discs from the back of his truck... the good ole days.
I am a person who tried his best to avoid throwing discs that seemed over hyped. Now I'd be lost without my aviars, rocs, and teebirds. Some discs stand the test of time cause they really are that good.
Also, if you lose one, extremely easy to replace.
Philo says DX Rocs are good. I will buy DX Rocs.
Got a DX Roc and Cobra from Fleet Farm and absolutely throw the heck out of both of them. Also love my G Star Roc3.
LOVE MY DX ROC!!
You're right,Philo. That's a good disc all around. Beginning to end.
The DX RocX3 at 180g is da bomb! Its the least expensive disc in my bag and the disc I would hate to loose the most...
Just placed my order to get one :) thx :D
Everyone should have a stack of them. Still my furthest flying midrange.
There should be a Roc world championships tournament, like there is with the Polecat.
Great desk I use One every time we pull up a scorecard.
I got my very first ace with the 2019 Halloween edition dx roc. Still my favorite disc of all time. I’ve been trying to find one that is like that one.
i didnt know pros carry DX discs. i have the same roc and a champion roc3 and they are both my favorite. my star maco3 is right there with them.
I had the chance to watch them recently and you’d be very surprised what they use! I know I was shocked sometimes!
Baseline and light weight discs like you wouldn't believe
mind you for VERY specific shots. Typically woods shots as they fly straighter/more understable as they break in. Not known for consistency.
Roc it baby!
Love Roc’s
Philo the Man
Best disc on the market
I shelved my DX plastic, but saw guys better than me throwing them. I broke some out again, and its great. The thin profile comes out of your hand spinning fast, and the flip is late
Mr Albatross himself, i finally put a roc in my bag this year after 11 years of playing, but after catching an ace with a mako3 ive decided to go with the mako3 in the bag..... not saying the roc is not good, i will give it another try
EDIT:
Philo is a true speaker and a leader, just like the Roc
I have both in mine.. but love those Mako3's
I didn't understand the appeal of the ROC at first.
The rim didn't feel quite right and I couldn't understand what the fuss was about. C'mon it's just a disc..
Then I just kept throwing the thing until I got used to it.
The AHA! came when I was throwing in the woods and there were these narrow and long fairways.
I used a worn roc that I could throw 300ft DEAD STAIGHT, and I mean on a laser beam, no fade AT ALL in the end and that kept me in the fairway.
No other disc I had could do that, all the other either didn't go that far or faded just a bit in the end but not this ROC.. also I understood how amazing it is to throw absolutely straight. It is just beautiful! :)
I like KC Pro Roc, it's like DX but wears slower so you get a longer time in the dead straight sweet spot.
If you can get good with a DX Roc...you’re more than halfway there. If I could only play with 1 disc the rest of my life...this would be it.
110%
I wish I could throw a Roc but they just do not fit in my hand in a comfortable way. I keep giving it a shot every few years. Luckily, I found the Buzzz and have been rocking that for years.
Rancho Roc 🔥
I just put my og 2000 dx roc back in the bag. It’s staying in the bag.
It’s 180 and awesome.
Love Philo!
The Roc is my only tattoo. Star Ontario Roc is the best disc ever.
I want one now
I love my DX Roc's Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario and San Marino.
I also love my gummy board flat Star Rancho Cucamonga Roc, as well as my dommie Star Ontario Roc.
And last but not least my KC-Pro Roc. Iron leafs are no match for a Roc!
My extra distance Roc is a Thunderbird Champion MF, G-Star, Pro and DX.
Honestly I would be perfectly happy bagging just a Rhyno, Roc andThunderbird.
Need a philo in the bag
Buzzzzzzzzz! 🐝😎
I bought one but I’m not doing so good with it. Guess I need more practice on my form/ mechanics
I just got a DX Roc and haven't thrown it. I'm only a month in of playing. I do have a Mako3 that I love. How does this fair against it?
I bought a new buzz after cracking my 1st run edition. It did not fly even close to my previous one so I lost it in a pond and DON’T CARE. Multiple friends of mine have roc3 so I got me a brand new champion rocX3 instead. Straight off the shelf I threw it 5 times and it flew under stable. Average 250’. I swapped with my friends threw their broken in roc3’s and they threw mine. Same flights and distance. I would think it would fly straight then fade hard, not turn and then slight fade. F#5,4,0,3.5? Love the disc though since I figured it out. Made a 150’ putt last week.
I’ve had more aces with the roc than any other disc. I will forever throw the roc
How many dxs rocs does Innova have sitting on the shelf
Straightest disc I own.
I threw my first roc in 1998 now I wouldn't show up to the course with any less than 4 of them in the bag
I clicked on this only because of Philo, even if I won't meet him from EU :)
Flatter the better for me, discs with the "heartbeat" to me scream "Trouble, Trouble, POPAMATIC BUBBLE! "
my roc3 always turns over :/
In my opinion the Mako3 is the better beginner disc
Im trying to play with philo at oak grove
This means an ITB is coming
Please release a swirly Philo DX Roc
Then there's a Ra, a hybrid of a RocX3 top with a VRoc bottom.
Need a bagupdate from philo*
San Marino, Ontario, or regular?
Or maybe Rancho?
Such a Roc Star! Not a Star Roc.
Also learn something from Philo
Philo's commitment to the sport made it a brainer, he just needed a the right Disc so I a gave him an extra Roc I had in my car...I wasn't about to give him the one out of my bag, that's just crazy talk.
I'm the Jerry West of Disc golf, I can spot talent and if I see it in you, I'll have something for ya.
Prom!
The harder blend you made in the 2009 DX ROC is epic, the plastic you make it in now is really bad...soft and boring!
KC Pro Roc
Can confirm KC Pro Roc is great!
Most copied disc ever..
More than the aviar?
@@tima5033 definitely. Older mold takes the cake
