  • Was there a Civilization before the Isu? Will we see Minerva and Jupiter in Dawn of Ragnarok? What are Loki's plans and will the new Assassin's Creed Valhalla DLC show Ragnarok / The Toba Catastrophe? We're going to try and find an answer to all of that and more in this video!
    In fact today we are going to discuss our third and final batch of story news and speculations about the Dawn of Ragnarok expansion (at least for now), and this time it’s going to be even more focused on the Isu story rather than the mythological side of things.
    In the video we are going to have a deeper look at Odin’s personal story, having a look at his relationship with Baldr and Frigg and what that burning Yggdrasil could mean, before moving on to hypothesize what role might Loki play within the DLC, whether we might see him causing Baldr’s death, and whether we can see a mythological version of the Toba Catastrophe at the end of the expansion.
    We are also going to discuss a few pretty huge story related elements that appeared in the recent Deep Dive Trailer, including a throne connected to the Isu Jupiter, the potential appearance of Minerva, and a reference to an ancient version of the Isu, or a civilization that might have predated them.

    I enjoy the fact that these things are "translated" through the understandings of Eivor, and it allows them to tell a story about the ISU without being beholden to previous visual depictions or establishing visual cues, customs and behaviors that may need to get retconned later.
    I find it to be an intriguing concept.

    • @AccessAnimus
      @AccessAnimus  2 года назад +10

      Ha, it is indeed an intriguing concept, and it works much better than how mythology was handled in Odyssey.
      The drawback is, this concept still contains a lot of grey areas as to how to interpret the events and characters, and what actually happened in the Isu Era. Sure, some events are quite clear, but many others, many quests and events still bear the question as to whether they were just part of Eivor's understanding of the myths (with no canon relevance) or they actually had a counterpart in the Isu metastory.
      We'll see how successful this is going to be in the coming months (and maybe years?)

      All very good points, but that’s part of the fun of it-not knowing EXACTLY what happened. Totally agree that the mythology stuff, and by extension, the Isu stuff in this game is handled WAY better than in Odyssey. I guess that’s what happens when you get Darby McDevitt to write an AC story….it’s absolutely brilliant.

    One of my fav aspects of AC is the Isu. I enjoy exploring their temples, reading their scriptures, and meeting them. There were a lot of AC titles that barely touched on the Isu lore though. Ancient mythology is also incredibly interesting and fun to study, so I do enjoy the way AC is leaning into doing more fantasy.
    I also understand the yearning people have for a more simplistic AC. Going back to basics with Assassins v. Templars. There are so many different aspects of AC and everyone has a different part that they enjoy most. Some people play because of the history/alt history, others like me like the mythology/Isu, or they like the setting, stealth and parkour, and a lot of new fans because of the RPG elements.
    My point is, there are many different fan favorite features to AC, and I think that is what has made it so popular and iconic at this point, but it's hard to make everyone happy. I like old AC and new AC. I can play it and enjoy it even if it's not hitting my favorite points, but I know there are people playing where it is.

      That's a very good comment honestly. The community can get divided over opinions, old vs new, traditional vs innovative, action adventure vs RPG etc.. Sometimes it's very healthy to just stop and enjoy what we like and let others enjoy what they like without all the fuss that these discussions sometimes can create

      I do that too sometimes... but I usually fact check it with real life mythological info in order to maintain accuracy for myself in real life... and filter out the few creative liberties taken by Ubisoft. Unlike Bayek and every protagonist before him... Kassandra and Eivor are the perfect insert characters. They are virtual nobodies with no personality or real personal goals.... so you can literarily insert yourself into their shoes and play as "yourself" technically.
      Eivor and Kassandra have no real personal story other than to serve other being's sagas.... like Sigurd, Basim, King Aelfred and Odin's agendas.... while Kassandra serves Pythagoras and Angrboda's agendas.

      @assassinscreedislife3455 2 года назад

      @@Ozzie_Mandias No offense, but that's just a depressingly wrong way to view these stories. If you don't think that Eivor or the Eagle Bearer have any of their own personal motives or goals, or anything else that makes them unique characters in the franchise, I think you need replay both the games, or just look at their Wiki pages where it tells you the stuff they value. There is WAY more to each of them than you think, especially Eivor because of the way the RPG mechanics work in Valhalla.

      For Kassandra... even her brother Deimos, her mother had more personality and so did Pythagoras and Angrboda. Only in the first Hidden Ones DLC do we see Kassandra show just how far she will go to protect her family. In the Atlantis DLC... the only people that stood out were Hecate, Hermes, Charon, Juno and Aita. Hades was just a mad guy who likes war, Persephone is a histrionic control freak, Poseidon is too neurotic.
      The latest expansion of Odyssey actually gives more to Barnabas as well as some more to Kassandra's fears. But Barnabas really stood out here. Bayek has good motives... his wife Amunet was basically a mirror image of whoever's personality she was around.... whether it was Bayek or Julius Caesar or Cleopatra.
      Jacob Frye was hotheaded who did not care about the repercussions of his methods while Evie is a bookish and OCD like methodical approaches lack the ability to adapt properly to changes.
      Jacob becomes more cautious and reserved... Evie becomes more adaptable and even gets a significant personality boost in the Jack the Ripper DLC... where she stands her ground against her own homicidal impulses as well as Jack's gaslighting, terrorizing and manipulating her into becoming more like him.
      Arno and Elise also go through a great journey... sadly with only Arno ending up learning to let go of the past. Many other characters before also go through such significant changes and it is a great deal of quality storytelling.

      They also had the necessary tech to be virtually invulnerable, regenerate like deadpool and live forever. They also seem to be physically overpowering and very strong as said by Poseidon. It always puzzled me how such powerful beings can be killed off by rebellious humans.... but now it makes sense.
      Only the nation of Eden faced human rebellion problems.... the others Isu leaders with human slave soldiers who were all at war with each other. When catastrophe came... people just said "f*ck it" and decided to wage one last World War.

    I've loved AC since 2 back in 2009. Yes, this current trilogy has polarised fans and definitely, I have had mixed feelings. Still, there are things I love in these new games. I can at least say I have a lot of fun with them. When I realised that the mythological memories in Valhalla's main game were actually Isu memories it kind of blew my mind. That being said, I love actually seeing the real events and places so I definitely want more of that in the future and not always disguising it behind real-world mythology. That's why I loved the Fate of Atlantis episode 3: Judgment of Atlantis the most as it really did feel like exploring an Isu city. I'm definitely a little mixed when it comes to this expansion as, while I love Norse mythology, this DLC definitely feels so little like the AC I have grown up with. I always knew I would play this DLC (at some point) and that it would be fun, but it was just hard to be excited about a story that would be so unlike the AC I knew.
    Will this DLC wrap up Eivor's story? Will we finally see if she joins the Hidden Ones? Why and when she ended up in Vinland before she died? Maybe not. I hope those questions are answered in some form before this game is over. I remember finishing the main story and going... wait, that can't be it? I need closure. Seeing the first two expansions failing to answer those questions worried me but when they announced more content was arriving, and that this game is getting the most post-launch support, I want to believe they will eventually tie it all up nicely. I really hope. :')
    Regardless, your coverage of this expansion has shown me a lot more to be excited about. :)

    • @AccessAnimus
      @AccessAnimus  2 года назад +3

      Same, honestly. I enjoyed the mythological representation of the Isu in the main game, but on the long run it feels a bit too much, especially if it's plunging too much into the mythology side. I also would like to see more real events and places from the Isu times rather than a mythological veil placed over them. But that's only my opinion of course.
      I don't think we'll see the Hidden Ones, while Eivor's story *could* be wrapped, the Deep Dive trailer for the DLC kind of mentions that Eivor too has to face her destiny, so that might indeed happen, although I don't see it being the focus of the DLC anyway.
      To calm down your worries though, Darby McDevitt just recently hinted at (didn't confirm) Eivor's final moments in Vinland being something that the team is working on or might address soon: www.axios.com/assassins-creed-darby-mcdevitt-d4d9f105-a028-4781-8878-92295f8dc208.html

Yet they also did this for Odyssey and I did play that DLC too. What i'm saying is I just want some actual AC stuff like it was in the past (let's hope Rift can deliver this...). What do you mean by "actual AC stuff"? It's been well established very early on in the series that the Isu were the beings behind the figures and places in human mythology. All that the recent games are doing with these DLC is simply exploring that lore element in a way that fits the historical theme of the respective title.

    Does Odin's story in Dawn of The Ragnarok take place before or after the events of the main Valhalla story?

    • @AccessAnimus
      @AccessAnimus  2 года назад +3

      Hey Mathieu! Nice to see you here too!
      Yeah, Odin's story in Dawn of Ragnarok takes place after the Asgard and Jotunheim arcs of the main game.
      As for Eivor's story, it will surely take place after the events that led her to experience the Asgard and Jotunheim arcs, and while it's not confirmed if it's also going to happen after the Viking Age ending of the main game, I'd assume it does, so that Eivor can be pushed to fully accept and finally recognize that she is Odin's descendant

      There haven't been any confirmations though! Many rumors are saying that another DLC planned for Valhalla was turned into a full game starring Basim, so that might leave the second half of this year with less content, but maybe Ubisoft is planning something else?

    I won’t be playing this DLC. I wasn’t a fan of the story or the other two DLCs, so I can’t see dropping more money for a character I don’t care for. As for the mythology, I don’t understand, if in fact Eivor is a sage for this Isu and now knows it, why it is not set in an Isu civilization.

      Hey Norma!
      I am not a fan of the other two DLCs either, two big missed opportunities in my opinion!
      About mythology, yeah, I agree it would have been cool to see the actual Isu era instead of using Eivor's veil as in the main game but I guess they chose this way because it gave them more freedom gameplay-wise. I mean... for as much the Isu were advanced in technology and all, I'm pretty sure they coudn't transform themselves in a bird ... just an example of many others.

    I never really liked the older games as they felt stale. I would rush through them just to get to the Isu stuff because I love how it makes a mockery of religion. But I started to love the games when they changed it up with Origins and now I’m hooked. Isu lore and how they influenced mythology and religion is much more interesting than killing some regular human because he’s part of a cult. I could also care less about parkour and never understood why people get so excited about that. And open worlds. At this point I won’t play any game that isn’t open world. It’s immersion breaking and the old games were super frustrating by blocking you into certain sections. I do understand that Valhalla doesn’t really feel very assassinish and I think they made a mistake there. And the last two DLCs were boring and made no attempt at furthering the story line. I hope this one fixes that.

    • @AccessAnimus
      @AccessAnimus  2 года назад

      Hey Frank!
      I can get the feeling of being blocked in a game, it happened to me in Final Fantasy XIII in which you couldn't really go anywhere but on the planned road. And I'm just like you, I don't mind too much about gameplay changes/evolutions/involutions or any of that. I do care that the story makes sense, that the previous lore is respected and possibly expanded and that the pillars of the franchise are still there.
      And yes, I do hope DoR will be better than the previous DLCs cause they were two very big missed opportunities.
