I recently made the folded "sandwich" bao for the first time and these steamed buns are delicious! They are soft, airy and have a delicious flavor by themselves, while never overpowering any fillings you may choose to add. A small container of commercial chicken salad and a jar of my homemade pickles made a great lunch on the road. My only regret was that my bao were tiny and will be rectified when I get off the road and make my first try of this full recipe! Thank you for keeping me fat and happy, Ms. Mandy!
When I first saw those chili on the bun, I was like, "no, we don't use carrots in Taiwan"... Then you said chilis and I was hooked. Perfect recipe. Just like we made in Taiwan. They are the perfect blend of savory and delicious. The perfect street food. Thank you for sharing this. Happy Cooking, UB
I love the channel and have cooked at least a dozen recipes. I appreciate you putting the dish name in the video title. Thanks a million for all the yummy food and cooking tips. Tomorrow I’m making (again!) the stuffed peppers. I always give you the credit when I entertain.
My Mentor, who taught me how to cook Chinese food, taught me all about bao. We fed hundreds of people with bao holding pork belly. It was fun. I don't even know if I got paid for that. Oh well, who cares. I got at least as much out of the deal as he did. Thanks to him, I can make a lot of Chinese-American dishes. I have no idea if this translates to making real Chinese food. Probably not. I love your channel. It's very relaxing to watch.
I've had steamed buns like this before. I never knew how easy. Only make a ball and punch down once. I think I could do this. Thank you *_Mandy_* . Have a wonderful day dear. I hope the weather is great 👍💯💞🐲🌹
Thank you so much! I lived in Taiwan for 10 years and really miss these pork buns. I'm going to try to find the pickled mustard greens at my local Asian market!
I am so glad I found this channel, these videos are quickly becoming the highlight of my week. It's really helped to rekindle my love of Asian dishes/ cooking and also it's given me a lot of new ideas that's gonna help to expand my old recipe box (and probably my waist line too lol.)
Thanks you so VERY much for the informative video. Your awesome smile and upbeat attitude are so fun and easy to watch. I have ALWAYS wanted to make this recipe but was never brave enuf. Now I know I am able to do so with your video. Please keep making more videos of your recipes. God Bless & Happy Holidays! 🙏
This thing is delicious! The first time I tries it was on a wedding and it was amazing, I'm glad I saw it here cuz I didn't take photo nor i know the name of these until now 😭
I couldn't find a good pork belly, so I made this with really thick bacon and it was delicious. I hope to make it with pork belly soon! Thank you for your recipes, Mandy.
Yummy yummy it’s just awesome the way you cook this recipe and it seems so easy that need to be tested very quickly, will come surely back to give you a feedback. Thanks for the sharing and explanation, as always so sweet to watch your videos ❤️
Love all your videos. Wish you would do like shopping or out to dinner vlogs. people who are already locked into you and your content would enjoy those and they’d get lots of views ..
looks so delicious!...no one knows where the taco first originated but i think it might have first evolved from China...some say it came from the Spanish mines in the 18th century...thank you...
As always a great recipe and presentation! I may try braising the pork in my pressure cooker :) LOL, I first thought you were using a clay pot on an induction (not gas) burner! Keep up the good work.
The bun recipe sounds really good, did you ever tried it with bread flour instead. I noticed that AP flour has a crumbly bread texture compared to a little chewy bread texture with the bread flour, something to consider.
I often make Bao Buns but mine are a lot thicker and fluffyer than yours. I like my version a little bit more and the recipe including milk. But next time i‘ll made your pork. I always made red braised pork belly. ☺️
Hi Mandy, it's wonderful to see your fool-proof-mouth-watering recipe with all the tips to make it yourself at home. Oh no, I noticed your shirt got splattered by the oil pops which means we should wear an old shirt to prepare the pork belly without a laundry bill. LOL! Thank you for everything you do and please have a safe July 4th Holiday. 💜
You should still wait with instant yeast in my opinion, it ensures it has multiplied enough to properly ferment the flour. Thats just my experience though.
These are deadly good, except for the cilantro, but that's a personal thing. Garnish to taste and enjoy. My suggestion is diced radish for a bit of crunch and a fried egg.
I ordered your knife/cleaver set and I just LOVE it. Way higher quality than expected. I liked it so much I ordered another for my Daughter and Son in Law! Thanks!
I love watching your channel! I just bought your wok! And I hope to make these for my family at Christmas! Do you have or know where I can purchase the pickled mustard greens?
Thank you for the support and hope you enjoy using the wok. I don't know where you can buy the pickled mustard green. I bought it in Asian market localy. If you have an asian market around, go check it out. Happy holidays.
Are there different varieties of pickled mustard greens? I used to go to a mom-and-pop restaurant (that had two menus- one in English and the other with authentic foods in Chinese) and experiment with the authentic dishes. One time, I tried a dish with Beef stomach and pickled mustard green and I found it intensely bitter. I wonder if that's a traditional flavor profile for dishes like that due to spices or cooking style or if the mustard greens were really just that potent.
@@SoupedUpRecipes Thanks! It makes me wonder if it wasn't what it said on the menu, as it was very bitter... I'll have to give mustard greens another try!

I love how you give reasons behind the recipe steps, for example why you don't brown the pork belly before braising. Thank you!
Thanks for watching
I have tasted it once in a Japanese restaurant, was one of the best things I ever had, will try this recipe for sure!

Are carrots difficult to get in Taiwan? Very common here in Scotland
@@xxPenjoxx lol, no. There are tons of carrots in Taiwan. Just not in the gua bao.

If you were to open a restaurant featuring these recipes, I'd so make a destination! Everything you make looks so delicious.
Thanks for sharing, Mandy. I bought this clay pot and recommend it. I used it to also cook Chinese herbal soup and it tasted so good.

If you are in the US, most of the mainstream grocery stores don’t carry pork belly, you can find pork belly at Asian markets or ethnic butcher shops.
@@lees7340 The nearest asian market to me is an hour away in the city, so I always visit when i'm down there. Next time, I will get some pork belly :D

Is the flour measurement correct? 400g of flour is more than 2.5 cups of flour . Please advise

no
@Souped Up Recipes Which kind of flour do you use in the Bao recipe, is it gluten free?
it was all-purpose wheat flour. no gluten free
