Ah that sucks about the race but hopefully you'll get the chance to give it your all in February. Will done for getting out and running regardless, not many would have done. 👊
I haven't opened my FB account in years. 🙈

We have just had to resort to creating a facebook account. Between looking for parkrun cancellations, trying to get race photos and trying to promote the channel we decided it was something we were going to have to do so we just made one under the channel name.
Not entirely keen on it to be honest, I came off all traditional social media 10 years ago, but it's just something we were struggling to avoid lately.

Sounds like maybe it was just as well Mark!! I wish my marathon yesterday had been cancelled !!!😂😂 Though supposedly a road race, it turned out to be an exhausting nightmare of partly flooded, washed out muddy roads and trails I did my best to negotiate in my Alphaflys!!😂But really it was absolutely one race too many for my poor body after a huge huge year, I'm lucky to get out of it without an injury quite frankly!! I'm gonna be a little more wise and err on the safe side of running choices in 2025!!! Sending you and your fam all my best for the New Year Mark!!🙋‍♀

So sorry to hear about this, we also had a race cancelled and of course they only mentioned it on FB too 🤣🤣 It is sadly now the boomer media of choice these days, you're just in with the kids Mark 👊😉

@@raleyadventures the irony that us young upstarts are the one missing the facebook notifications eh? 🤣

You would have thought a few more runners would have turned up mate , but things always happen for a reason, lessons learnt though mate 🤣🤣👏

Shame about the race Mark. Kudos for still getting a run in anyway mate. 👏 Also a shame that you missed the opportunity to get more info about the run club but I guess you will get another chance in Feb. Keep up the great work Mark! 😎🤘

Gutted! Mentally you seemed ready to give it a good go. Bit of a let down. Lesson learned! Well done on getting a run in anyway.

Ah that’s a shame, but as you say least it wasn’t a long journey - and good that they do it every month 🙌🏼

Oh mate - I would have been with you on that; I actively avoid FaceTube and don't access my account after I realized that a poke was a form of flirting, not just driving a bit quicker. I don't have the IT knowledge to make this statement, but I'll make it anyway... Surely to apply for the race you must enter a valid email address? Therefore email should surely be the default (or one of the default) methods of communication? Unless they have stated in previous correspondence that any changes will be communicated via Facegram which they may have done. I guess the time to make that call is limited, so they would need to take the path of least resistance. You're very good; I would have been properly narked with myself and let everyone know! 😂😂😂

The over-reliance on facebook is frustrating. I'm in one club that use facebook far too much and a lot of information gets mixed up, missed and jumbled around and I'm in another club that uses multiple methods of communication (facebook, a whatsapp community, email, website). The latter functions much better in terms of finding stuff out without having to dig through a pile of facebook group posts to find the one you need or hunting down the person who will have the information you need.

The Saturday park run i want to start doing uses Facebook too for updates. Its definitely a downside, i don't have a Facebook and don't plan on getting one. 😂

Mark, I think you're being too hard on yourself. Not everyone even has a FB account or checks it frequently. Good for you that you did what you came to do and ran the 5K!

Sorry to hear about the race being canceled but perhaps for the better. Way to still get a good run in for the day. So what races are you hoping to do for 2025?

Not a big lover of Fb myself but unfortunately it has become one of those things that most people can’t do without.

It frustrates me to no end that events and groups only update their facebook, deleted my account years ago and it was the best thing I ever did, except for circumstances like this!! Lovely video nonetheless. 👍

The running club I’m in do everything on Facebook. I miss almost every announcement because of it. It’s annoying enough that I’m probably going to move clubs.

Did you do the 5k anyway? In which case, WINNER! You can only beat what's in front of you!
In all seriousness, shame you didn't find out beforehand, but no damage done and always better for races to be safe than sorry. Good luck with it next month. 👍

Bit annoying that they just assumed everybody looks at Facebook, that's not always the case, as it's normally full of arses who seem to be an expert in everything under the sun 🤣 On the plus side, you still got a run in & didn't have to burst yourself 👍

Might have been a good thing that the race was cancelled Mark. It is not always possible to run at a sensible pace after injury with the adrenaline surging through the veins. Glad you never had to travel too far and you got in the gentle training run you should have done anyway. There will always be other races mate.

Checking if a race or parkrun is going ahead is the ONLY reason anyone should use fb, it’s awful. Shame you didn’t get to race but maybe a blessing so close to returning from injury. Every cloud mate 😉
