    It's very sensible to strengthen up rather than just running through it 😧😧 Excited to see your return 🥳🥳

      Thanks 🙂 I'm getting a bit more sensible as I edge closer to my 50th birthday next year 😄

    Thanks for the update, Mark. I've seen runners struggle with Achilles problems literally for years. It sounds like things are progressing well and it's good that you're giving it time to fully heal now.

      Thanks mate. I've been very patient with this issue. I'm getting ready for a run again now though. Was going to do it tonight but there's ice everywhere. Saturday should be warmer so I'll give it a go then 🤞

    Glad to hear you are starting to feel better! I like the rocky inspiring music sprinkled in there haha I will have to follow your suite to help nurse my ankle. I am glad that you are looking after your body!

      Thanks, Jen 😁 I hope your ankle is getting better. It's even harder to rehab these things when you're in the middle of ultra training. You can do it though 💪

    GREAT Mark!!! A couple of years ago I made that oh so typical Achilles injury mistake of thinking it was ok to run on it as it felt better when it was warmed up … omg did I pay for that, what pain the next morning just touching my foot on the floor!! So I let it calm down a couple of days and then got into the barefoot yoga , at first carefully, with slightly adjusted poses, including a stick to help take some of the load off the one legged balance exercises on that side, but it was amazing how quickly I ended up getting over it thanks to yoga!! Yoga has fixed up all manner of niggles and pains!!! But the barefoot balance exercises in particular have been an absolute Godsend!!!

      Wow, thanks, Bev. That's really good advice. I've tried a few bits of yoga in the past. I quite enjoy it but it really shows me how inflexible certain parts of me are 😄 More reason to do it, I guess!

    Good to hear you're on the mend. Take it easy when you get back. Leave the intensity until you have the volume again.
    Sounds like you're almost there. 👊

    Going through the rehab together! Sounds like you're taking the sensible approach. I think I'm going to focus on building my S&C back in and once I get my hands on a turbo trainer will get the bike out for some alternative cardio. Having a rough plan helps our mental state as well. Keep it going!

      Oh yes. Recovery buddies assemble! (slowly and tentatively... with a bit of a limp). At least we have strength and indoor cycling to keep us active.

    Glad you are making progress with the injury Mark. I outlined my approach to overcoming injury in my March video "My Knee Rehab". It really is a great method for recovering from leg injuries. A few steps at a time and slowly building, not trying to run for a minute all at once. Hope it helps. Good luck mate.

      Cheers Peter. I remember your video, now you mention it. I'll do a little test run soon, and if I need to back off and take things extra slowly, I'll have a look at that method 👍

    My most common injury is calf strain, thankfully I’ve managed to avoid the dreaded Achilles injury. You’ll be be back before you know it

    • @markg99
      @markg99  2 месяца назад

      Calf troubles are no fun. Mine tend to be the first thing to feel over worked during a training block. The Achilles thing is new to me.
      Thankfully it seems to be recovering well. Thanks a lot. I hope your calves are behaving themselves at the moment 👍

    I had Achilles pain. It still gives me a bit of grief now. But seems to get less and less as time goes on. But I found static strength exercises the best. They seem to help. Standing on my tiptoes for 45 seconds. Moving through range of motion. With strength exercises seem to make it hurt more

    • @markg99
      @markg99  2 месяца назад

      Thanks a lot, Jason 👍 Some of the many RUclips videos I watched about rehab, did recommend those static holds. I'll have a go and see how it reacts. I'm going for my first little run this morning 🤞
      Hope yours is behaving itself.

    Chat with a physio. I tore mine stretching. I was given a programme, of strength and short 3km slow runs once the pain had gone. Then slowly increase making short it didn’t get worse. It took 6 months to fully heal. I got some post-TiB issues after as a secondary injury. This is why the physio said I HAD to run normally and not compensate.
    But chat with yours and see

    • @markg99
      @markg99  2 месяца назад

      Thanks, Simon. It's good to hear from someone who has firsthand experience of a similar injury. That tear of yours sounds like a nasty one. Hopefully you're back on track now.
      Good point about not compensating. I guess it's natural to want to steer away from anything that feels like it's taxing the injury site. I'll do my best to be cognizant of that 👍

    Sounds sensible... And I definitely agree with not being married to your plan. It shows how much you've developed as a runner - you know your body and what works and what doesn't. Did you spot Tinky Winky?
