I have my portraits at a level where people mistake it for photos. But i CANT get skin pours accurately. I follow instructions to a T. But i just can't get it. So frustrating

Hi plz why do you prefer shading in boxes or squares.Or is it wrong if I shade the face just as ones?
I just like it cos it's fun for me. It's not better or worse than any other way of shading. you can shade however you want as long as it works for you
Is the paper on the wall or on the table?
