The west side of Pitt Island is pretty incredible. Lived on a float camp in Wright Inlet (high slack is the only time you can enter. It's a tidal falls)for a few months. Towing our float camp to Cornwall Inlet, we got stuck in Lundy Cove for three days because of weather .
Can we talk beautiful for a moment? The shorelines, the puffed sails, the whales, the boats, the berries, the fog, that delicious looking salmon dinner, the photography in general and of course Devlin all come together to make one beautiful video. I think of a massage with soft, soothing music, the scent of lavender permeating through the air as my muscles are massaged and the tension seeps away, yes, this video was like a great massage. I feel much better now. Thanks to you Alfy and Devlin for taking us along and Happy Holidays to you!
Hope you enjoyed this revisit to a fun trip we did and we will post new content once we are back on Northern Dancer V. All is good and we hope all is well at your end. :)
You should have gone into Cornwall Inlet. So beautiful. Lived there for the better part of a year. Also lived in Bishop Bay, Klewnugget, Goat Harbour, Lowe Inlet. I'm surprised that you didn't go to Oona River on Porcher Island. That community has been there foe for more than 100 years. Established by a bunch of Scandinavian people. Lived there for 3 years.
So glad you enjoyed this little look back for this trip. We are very excited to get some new content with Northern Dancer V in the same area! All good in the north, but looking forward to getting back to the coast!
Saw your post on FB so I had to watch the video. Hello from a fellow sailor, who lives in Juneau, Alaska. I've been thru BC and Grenville channel a couple of times. I've helped deliver two sailboats up and down the inside passage for friends. I've lived and sailed in Juneau for 30 years, so if you guy ever venture this far north, look me up on FB. I can pass on some local knowledge if you need it. Good videos. Production values are high and I like the pace of them and the music you've been using. Keep up the great work, showcasing the beauty that is this area.
Great to hear from a fellow sailor who is familiar with the area. Really appreciate your offer for local intel if we make it up your way one day. :). So glad you enjoyed seeing this area through our lens! :)
I have a friend at Port Alberni in the center of Vancouver Island , he lives at the airport. Its so amazing that someone could motor all the way into the town of Port Alberni, deep inside the Island.
Such gorgeous scenery and excellent video. It is my understanding that you have Grizzly bears the size of SUV's in that part of the world who are inclined to perceive occasional hikers as opportunistic snacks more easily caught and consumed than most sources of protein they normally hunt. Regardless of it's stunning beauty, watching you ramble about apparently without protection in dense forest late in summer eating berries bears not only enjoy but actively seek in order to accumulate sufficient fat to last them through winter hibernation, caused me some anxiety. I guess it is an interesting example of people being familiar and comfortable with hazardous aspects of their environment. I recently watched an episode of Sailing Uma recorded in Northern Scandinavia where they were required to carry a rifle for protection from Polar Bears yet the terrain is devoid of vegetation larger than grass and far more open!
Oh yes we are in bear country for sure and we are very aware of it and always on alert (although the filming and editing might show that). More often than not Grizzlies don't like encounters with people so we make a lot of noise and we both carry our own large bear spray canisters when on shore. We could go to the next level and carry a firearm if we felt or saw enough warning signs in the area, or just avoid the area if we see too many signs of bear activity. Something to definitely be aware of and cautious of in this part of the world for sure. You might like this 3 part series of me sailing deep into bear territory. Here is one of the episodes. ruclips.net/video/Ez5z74-3pqs/видео.html
Great video Alfy and Devlin...i hope Moonshine's new owner appreciates her grace and beauty ...great video awesome photography and beautiful BC..thanks for sharing ,take care and stay safe !
Holy! Is that you!!! Yes of course it is! I followed you on your firsts videos than I lost my account and lost your channel and here you are! I am glad I found this channel again. You content was excellent back then and what I see now you stayed true to your moto and only improved. ...I cannot wait to see the story, I think I will go from now to back in time!
So great that you found us again and there will be a lot to catch up on and we hope you enjoy it all! You will find out that we have a different sailboat now that we plan to explore even more of the coast with, but I won't give away too much more than that. Enjoy! Alfy & Devlin
This is your best video yet 12:15 reminded me of the old Bill Mason National Film Board of Canada videos that are largely responsible for me becoming a sailor. Very beautiful and inspiring! Thank you for sharing your adventures, Alfy & Devlin ✌️🙂
Thank you for your kinds words! So glad that you enjoyed this short little film and glad you enjoyed seeing this little trip through our lens. We'll keep documenting our adventures for everyone to enjoy. Fair winds. Alfy & Devlin.
enjoyed the travels so much - spent a lot of time in this area many years ago now - so long ago some area were not charted and we made our own charts - would love to swap stories one day.
Alfy, it’s always good to see you two out on the water. Even on Moonshine, which seems like an old trusted friend. Now I know this is a dated video, but all the same, it’s a grand adventure!
Im hoping in the next two years or so ill be able to move aboard a trawler and start cruising the west coast. Maybe one day we will run into each other. Take care and be careful out there guys!
Good luck with the move to a lifestyle on the water and if you see us come say hello. We are now on a Hans Christian 43 ketch called Northern Dancer V.
Many thanks, yet again, Alfy. As with earlier vlogs, this brought back fond memories to this Ontario sailor whose C&C27 is on the winter hard for about five more months.
I remember when (years ago) my wife tried to insult me by saying "you're like a sailboat, just blowing around wherever the wind takes you!"... she has since thanked me and realized that to sail you must ride the tide as well as the wind to get where you're going... and when sailing you cannot adhere to a strict schedule, you must learn to adapt, tac and gybe... some days you ride the rollers, some you you rest on peaceful waters... others you heel and fly!.... yes, life is like sailing and being compared to a sailboat is the most wonderful compliments I have ever received. We are VERY excited to Northern Dancer V up to BC's north coast and very excited to share that with everyone! So glad you enjoyed this one! Alfy & Devlin

Thanks Alfy and Devlin. What a great video and story. Alfy - I think you are missing Moonshine! I can understand why. It was (is) a beautiful boat with great lines and you did such a nice job maintaining it. Also, thanks for all the time and effort you both put into making the videos. I was glad you pointed out that it was your gift to all your viewers. Happy Holidays!! Ron
Thank you Ron and so glad you enjoyed it! We do miss Moonshine, but are very excited to take Northern Dancer V to many of these same locations eventually. :) It was a lot of fun making this little retrospective and happy to share it with everyone! Happy Holidays to you as well. Alfy & Devlin
I did have to do a Double Take. I was wondering why this didn't look exactly like Northern Dancer. nice video. Tell Devlin, that i used to have these "pancakes" all the time, when i was growing up. My Mum was French Canadian. To me, , , , these were normal.
We are excited to get some new content up with Northern Dancer V, but it was fun to re-visit with time on board Moonshine for this trip and so glad you enjoyed it. :) You are lucky have had those growing up, those 'skinnies' are the best! :)

Thank you so much for your kind words! We really enjoy exploring this coast, but also really enjoyed documenting it to share with you all so your comments are much appreciated! Alfy & Devlin
Haunting extended video, loved it, missed your input over the summer. I hope the insane weather in your part of the world didn’t cause you too many problems.
That part of the cost is amazing, those big Tide's would take a bit of getting used to as here we have about a meter. I hope if the universe permits to head up that way myself though these is plenty of OZ to see first. Thanks for letting us tag along 🏴☠️🍺
So glad you enjoyed coming along with us for this trip. Yes the tides are sure big, but not too big a factor as long as you know how to read the tables. :) I bet there is so much to see where you are! :)
I must have missed the notification for this episode but I was searching for anything new that you two had put out and was pleasantly surprised to find it. Thoroughly enjoyed it! When do you plan to be back on the big boat 😁?
Glad you found this episode that re-visited one of our memorable trips on BC's north coast. :). We will be on Northern Dancer V in the very near future and I am sure some content will follow, so stay tuned! :)
I watch some other sailing channels ( mostly down south ) they always dive to check anchor set.. you do not ?? Its cold? How do you skip this , and sleep well ?
We are anchored in pretty deep water in this area, usually over 50ft so too deep to dive on. We have gotten comfortable with making sure out anchor is set and holding well. :)
Depending on the anchor bottom, sand, mud, vs rock with the proper scope and right anchor technice with vigilance you should be safe without diving down to the anchor location.
Is that a 2.5 hp outboard on the west marine 2.5m plywood floor dinghy? How fast can you go with that setup? I have the same dinghy and thinking of a 3.5 HP outboard
Looking for anther Canadian liveaboard who made YT videos approximately up until 2019. A guy who who's objective was to live of the grid. He lived alone on his boat which maybe was a Westsail. Anybody know the name of the boat? Can't find the YT channel anymore.
You both complement the beauty of our coast with your obvious appreciation and respect for where you/we are so fortunate to live. Thank you!
Thank you and so glad you enjoyed seeing this area through our lens! :)
So very thrilled to so another of your beautiful videos! The artistry of your eyes and heart bless us all. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Reminds me of Bill Mason and Water Waller - such authenticity. Such depictions and stories captured.
So glad you enjoyed it!
What a great episode - was able to watch it all because we're having a winter snow day. Perfect - thanks!
So glad you had time to enjoy this one! :)

A beautiful feature length video. What an incredible amount of work putting it together. The prettiest coastline in the world. Thanks Alfy and Devlin.
So glad you enjoyed it! It was a lot of work, but I hoped it would give the viewers a good idea of what it is like cruising in this area. :)
Epic!!
Thanks and so glad you enjoyed it!

@@lifeislikesailing I would imagine the tidal currents can be incredible and something to watch out for ?
@@californiakayaker Oh yes some very big tidal currents on the coast here. Seymour Narrows gets up to 15-16 knots.

i hope you find all kinds of pritty littles rocks to make a art project
👍👍
Depending on the anchor bottom, sand, mud, vs rock with the proper scope and right anchor technice with vigilance you should be safe without diving down to the anchor location.
I agree and in almost 25 years of sailing I haven't dove on my anchor ever. :)
Is that a 2.5 hp outboard on the west marine 2.5m plywood floor dinghy? How fast can you go with that setup? I have the same dinghy and thinking of a 3.5 HP outboard
That is a 6hp on a 9ft dingy with a wooden floor in it. Could get up on plane with one person in it, but not with two adults on board.
Ok, thanks, Alfy ✌️🙂
Looking for anther Canadian liveaboard who made YT videos approximately up until 2019. A guy who who's objective was to live of the grid. He lived alone on his boat which maybe was a Westsail. Anybody know the name of the boat? Can't find the YT channel anymore.
Are you fishing or crabbing ?
Didn't fish or crab on this trip.
