  • 👉🏾 We react to The Most Beautiful Life Goes On: A Story of BTS
👉🏾 Trale loves “feel good stories”, especially about BTS and we ended up discussing what life was like when we were younger and in poverty. When the power or heat got cut off due to non-payment when we were younger, our families would sleep in front of the oven with the door open to stay warm. Memories!
👉🏾 We think this video was better than both This is BTS and Who is BTS, but we also wonder if it’s because we now both know more about BTS when watching.
👉🏾 Should we rewatch and react to Who is BTS and react to This is BTS sometime soon?

I don't think there's a need to rewatch the Who is BTS one again coz that's definitely outdated (even though I begrudgingly admit, it is still one of the most satisfying intro videos because it feels like you really get to know the guys) . If you want to watch videos highlighting each member, I recommend the Introduction to BTS - Beyond the Scene Series by bts_gadaursan (it's an 8 part series).

Nah, just delve into their music for a bit. You have so much to catch up on.
Perhaps start with Map of the Soul albums, and work your way back to the older ones.
Or check out their most iconic MVs, which can serve as landmarks in their career.
When you listen to a song, search for a lyric video (Zaty Farhani is most reliable), or look up doolset’s annotated translation. She is excellent.
Then view a LIVE performance of the song, to get a feel for their stages.
It’s like a long road trip of discoveries. ENJOY!

One more note regarding their military service: I have observed that this is a very sensitive issue among Koreans and that the most respectful thing to do is to leave it to Koreans to address this, versus giving our own conjectures. Although it is undeniable that BTS are invaluable to their country doing what they are right now, Jin has frequently said that it will be his honor to serve his country once he is called to duty.

    • @mymots9840
      @mymots9840 3 года назад +24

Agreed. The military service is something that we Westerners do not get an opinion on - at least not in public.
To save yourselves a lot of potential grief/ill-will from comments, I'd highly recommend you not vlog your opinions on it.
BTS has NEVER said anything other than it will be an honor to serve when called to duty.
The articles stating that ARMYs are petitioning to get BTS an exemption were clickbait lies - with very few signatures on some petition that someone made. It was just sensationalist journalism as its worst.
Why? Because any Korean male who seeks to avoid their military service is viewed very poorly. Their reputation ruined. Singers who have been accused of doing that have had their careers ruined. So, the idea that ARMYs would want that or that BTS would want that is career ruining and not a conversation that anyone who is not Korean gets to enter into unless they are seeking to give BTS a bad name and potentially ruin their career.
Koreans can come to the conclusion on their own that if a soccer player or a cellist who win high accolades and respect for Korea when they win certain internationally renown competitions in their field then why shouldn't a Kpop idol group who wins high accolades and brings such respect and recognition to their country deserve the same consideration, or not. Again, that is for them in their own country to decide. Not us.

The one thing that most definitely needs to change in the SK military is that they need to repeal Article 92-6 of the Army Criminal Act that demonizes and criminalizes consensual homosexual acts and allows for harassments and abuse. Which I know that we as a species have recently moved forward in progressing in this topic, especially in the US with our policies and civil protections that still need much work. Other than that, you are correct. But when even Amnesty International has stepped in for soldiers facing prison time, then the world needs to add their opinion. Other than that, it is the right of any country to expect military service of it's citizens, even in Israel, men and women have to serve after school. I think, aside from some human rights issues, that it is an interesting observation for someone coming from a country that see's military service as optional and voluntary.
Other than that, it seems that BTS is committed to honoring their duty which is in itself honorable for anyone.
This was most definitely not a criticism of your comment. I just would like to add to that conversation and say that it's okay to have an opinion, but it doesn't necessarily mean that anyone will care about it or take it into consideration, so we shouldn't worry too much about it.

I absolutely agree with the not interfering part. Not our country, not our business, we have no right what so ever to meddle. About Jin... Well, I never quote him because there's no point. Just because he says that it doesn't mean he really thinks so. 😀 As a public figure he can't exactly go around complaining about military and shouting that he hates the idea of disappearing for two years... 😂 The only sensible and smart thing to do is what he's doing. We will probably never know his real opinion on the matter.

Okay this is partially correct. I haven't finished watching yet and there are some discrepancies. The group was supposed to be fully rap/hip hop. They got RM and Suga but also one of the producers Supreme Boi and two others. But that group fell apart. Supreme Boi stayed to produce and Suga was going to do that as well. Bang Si-Hyuk and RM convinced him to stay in the group. That's when it fully became hip hop and they found JHope. That was the start of Bangtan Sonyeondan. Also the UNICEF video was it's own thing. The white suit concept was part of MOTS:7. They had nothing to do with each other. In fact, by hair color you can tell that the UNICEF video was done during the LY:Answer time because Jungkook had pinkish hair, he had red/pink hair during Idol time.

But I never said anything about contracts and what you gave me proved the part I was talking about. When they mention how the team was built they NEVER mention by CONTRACT. That's why they always say RM was first. I fully agree that I forgot that Hobi was there before the rap grp broke up but this contract stuff isn't important because it's not how they tell it themselves. So you're stuck on that part that doesn't matter. I admit I forgot about the timeline but the contract stuff no one uses, not even them when discussing who was there collectively. Because in the end the contract that matters is the official formal contract of BTS which they wanted us to know about because they told us signing timetable.

I hope you get that he was joking about American Hustle Life. Most of us older ARMY loved the show. It really was a reality show but we got to see their personalities and they learned to write about their experience's. They made their songs personal. K-POP wasn't ready for their style of Hip Hop like how international fans now appreciate it. The styles and hair was them trying to pay homage to their mentors like 80's and 90's style. Look back at how Run DMC and look how they dressed and act. I'm glad they grew into their own colors and not trying to copy others. 7 different men with their own sound coming together. They now accept themselves and we love their growth 😊

I actually right like their music from the start it reminds me of the 90s feel when i was in middle school going into school. I have downloaded alot of their music on spotify. I literally went to spotify and looked up all the albums that are avaliable on spotify and started listening to them starting from the beginning. I love Wings album because that is when they started adding solo songs to their albums and hearing them individually is a different experience. But i love going back to their old songs. He almost chose to go modern contemporary as a career as he was top at it, but the audition changed his fate. None of BTS were anywhere near rich. Also they hd to move through the social media way because they had no other way to promote, usually kpop grps are promoted by variety shows and pushed with articles and shows by big companies, but there was no way for them to do something like that. Its crazy how BTS just got nominated for Grammys and a korean music critic came out talking abt there was a lack of coverage for BTS even after a grammy nom in korea and that this has been going on for long.

BTS' single Life Goes On went #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart today. 3rd song predominantly not in English to top the chart, only group in history to have multiple #1 debuts, one of the only 2 artists to have 3 #1 this year, and the fastest band to achieve 3 #1s in 42 years since the Bee Gees.
BTS will continue to grow. I've been actively an ARMY since 2017, tho I started listening to them in 2015, and all of these a few years ago would've been impossible. a couple of things, that others will probably cover a lot more eloquently than I, but here goes.
    1) names: the order of names in Korea when compared to America is last name first then first name last and it is very common for both names to be said and it is not like your mom scolding you. it is just normal, but you actually never hear anyone calling someone just by their last name like the narrator in the video does. You never hear someone say, Kim for Kim Namjoon or Kim Seokjin or Kim Taehyung. to clarify with an example, John Doe in the USA would be Doe John in Korea. however while we are in the USA, we still say Kim Taehyung instead of switching it around to Taehyung Kim because we embrace, enjoy and maintain Korean culture with regards to this.
    the family name/surname is Kim.
    2) age: this is a big one. all kinds of videos that say the guys were this or that age when various things happened are usually using their Korean ages - and that can get confusing for Americans and Westerners in general who count age differently (often referred to as International age as opposed to the Korean method of counting age). in this video, the age of 14 that they say Jungkook was when he auditioned was the Korean age. I do not know which month it was in, so I cannot say with certainty, but in international age he would have been 12 or 13 based on how we do ages in the West.
so here it goes. In Korea the minute you are born you are 1 years old. Then on the next January 1, you add a new year - every one in the country adds the new year to their age on January 1 each year. While celebrating their actual birthday is huge and way more important to acknowledge than in the USA, it is not the first time they are that 'new age' (unless, I guess they are actually born on January 1).
so this is confusing. let me give you a few of examples.
    A) say I was born on March 1, 1980.
    in the USA, I turned 1 on March 1, 1981 and I turned 2 on March 1, 1982.
in Korea, I turned 1 on March 1, 1980 and I turned 2 on January 1, 1981. and on March 1, 1981, I had a big birthday party to celebrate my 2nd birthday.
so picture February 1, 1981 - I would be 11 months old, not even 1 years old yet in the USA. right? however, in Korea, I would already be called a 2 year-old. thus a person in Korea could be called up to 2 years older than in the USA.
    B) Jeon Jungkook was born September 1, 1997.
in the USA, JK turned 1 on Sept 1, 1997 and I turned 2 on Sept 1, 1998.
in Korea, JK turned 1 on Sept 1, 1997 and I turned 2 on January 1, 1998. and on Sept 1, 1998, JK had a big birthday party to celebrate his 2nd birthday.
so depending on when something happened in the year in relation to JK's birth, the equivalent age in the West could be as much as 2 years off. when BTS talk they use their Korean ages, so all these interviews when BTS say they raised JK and he was a kid and came to BigHit when he was 15, actually he was only 13. JK joined BH before Sept, so to all of us in the West he would be 2 yrs younger than the Korean age he always states. When he says 15, we need to think 13 and then we can see how they really did raise this young 13 year-old whose parents allowed him to leave home and pursue his dreams at a no-name, nothing, dirt-poor company.
in this video, they say he was 14 when he auditioned for Super K and got all those cards from all those agencies. I do not know when the auction was, so depending on that date, JK could have been as young as 12 in the USA.
    C) this example is just for the sake of how interesting I find it (lucky you)
Kim Taehyung (aka Taetae, Tae, V) was born December 30, 1995.
in the USA, Taetae turned 1 on Dec 30, 1996 and Taetae turned 2 on Dec 30, 1997.
in Korea, Taetae turned 1 on Dec 30, 1995 and then Taetae turned 2 on January 1, 1996 (2 days later). and on Dec 30, 1996, Taetae had a big birthday party to celebrate his 2nd birthday.
so for us in the USA, we would be looking at a 2 day old baby whereas in Korea he'd be considered 2 years old. that always blows my mind.

As for the military service, the general age limit now is 28, and usually the service is 18months. there are exemptions for outstanding sportsmen and classical musicians (delicate valuable hands etc). Idols never got special treatment, however now ,as BTS brings so much money into the SK's economy, the so-called "BTS bill" was introduced which states that idols who have made a significant contribution into the country's image (and economy lol) may postpone the service till they're 30 (international age, Korean age is +1 year). So only bts qualifies to use this new law to their advantage and many fans of other groups are furious cause their faves will have to go as everyone. Jin turns 28 this year (Dec 4), so the law will give him 2+ years to work in peace (you dont have to enlist as soon as your bday passes lol). We dont know what happens in the future, maybe they'll be exempted alltogether. The members have stated multiple times that they're ready to serve their country when the time comes, and it's quite an important rite of passage for Korean men, so they might choose to serve even if the government allows them not to. Whatever it is, ARMY will respect their choice :)

I’ve watched this video for the first time with you guys and it’s was so well done and pretty accurate from what I know! Thanks for taking the time!
It would be cool to listen to some of the music and if you wanna start with something less overwhelming in regard to the amount of songs listen to their BE album, it’s 8 songs or so. It’s so good.
You can listen to the songs first if u want and then read the lyrics after, we don’t care as long as you know at the end what they tried to say, they put a huge emphasis on lyrics and we do as well, they also write their lyrics and it’s so authentic and so real.
And they have like three movies out and even more documentaries.
It’s hard to keep up but I’d love for you to watch their latest movie “Break the silence” it came out this summer and it’s about their latest tour and their thoughts on it.
I don’t know if you can do it on RUclips but if you have a Patreon or something that’ll be cool
And in regard to their Japanese albums, yes they do sing and can also speak fluently in Japanese.
When they promote in Japan that always translate their original Korean songs in Japanese.
It’s a thing they do for better access I believe

I think this is an excellent video and a great reaction. I also hope that more reactors and baby ARMY watch it (as well as the newer introduction videos) compared to the older ones which are outdated and have many stereotypes of the members.
I've forgotten some of your questions but:
    1) Yes, they sing in Japanese (the members are either fluent or quite proficient). The Japanese albums are mostly Japanese versions of the Korean songs with 1-2 original songs (which are amazing).
    2) Billboard Social Artist awards are fan voted awards. They were the first act from S.K to win and have won every year for 4 years running. But it's a double edged sword coz now awards mostly use it to get ARMY engagements but refuse to nominate them for the general category awards they deserve like album of the year, song of the year, artist of the year. (I'm looking at you BBMAs & AMAs)
    3) I think when it comes to captions, the ones on the official MVs are pretty decent. I know it seems like a lot to take in everything AND read captions but I promise you it will become second nature. So as a start, you can watch it uninterrupted with/without captions first and then go back and watch again reading and pausing whenever you need to. That might help in the beginning.
I think you guys do seem to enjoy reacting to the stuff outside of music because as baby ARMY it's a good way to get to know them. So I think, alternating between music videos (preferably in order just so you don't confuse yourselves or alternatively start from now & work your way back) and this type of content would be a good balance (just have to be careful which videos - I think UNGA speech 2020 and Class of 2020 speech would definitely be up you alley). Also, don't worry about the amount of content, I just see it as endless and that's a good thing :)

💜🎶 Hi! Guys. Thanks for reacting to this latest BTS introductory video which is really well constructed with facts, details & share your thoughts & asked good questions. So here are some of the detailed informations that you wanted to know.
At 15:00 - For Korean, their surname goes to back & their given name goes to front. So RM aka. Kim NamJoon, his surname is Kim & his given name is Namjoon. For V, fans call him TaeTae because at the beginning Jimin called him TaeTae which sounds cute & a lot of international Army started to use it instead of TaeHyung, which is his full name because it is easy to pronounce.
At 15:55 - Since Charlie is a teacher, this would interest him more. According to interviews with Jimin & Jimin’s middle school teacher, Jimin’s middle school teacher played important roles for Jimin to become BTS Jimin. After watching Kpop star ‘Rain’ performances on TV, Jimin wanted to become kpop idol. So he has started to learned Poppin dance when he was 2nd grades of middle school & 3rd grade he set down with his parents & informed them that he wanted to go to Busan high school of Art for dance major & wanted to become Kpop idol. Jimin’s parents were shocked because they were expecting their Jimin who was always top grade student & class president for 9 years in a row would go to one of the elite science high school & to top universities & become a prosecutor or something related to government jobs with stable high income. Jimin’s parents who is loving, caring & considerate of their son’s wish has gone to talk with Jimin’s teacher & seeks advise. Jimin’s teacher who’s already witnessed Jimin’s great talents & knew of his dream, convinced Jimin’s father to give him a chance & support his dream. Lucky for all the Army, Jimin’s parents who always believed in him, gave full support to Jimin & Jimin has started to learned Contemporary dance for entry exams in art high school & Even with such a short period, Jimin was the first & only student who has scored top mark(No.1) in academic & the dance exams in entry examinations & entered as no. 1 student in history of BuSan high school of Art(which is top 5 ranking art high school in Korea). It was same middle school teacher that told Jimin to try on BigHit audition which he got in as no.1 when he was 2nd years in high school. When Jimin had to moved his school to Seoul to become trainee at BigHit, all the teachers in his high school who doesn’t want to loose such a talents has tried to pursue him to stay & keep studying to become professional contemporary dancer. Until now those high school teachers were still saying to his students that it is great lost to classical dance industry. And maybe this is the reason why Jimin who often shows his gratitude towards all of his teachers in his interviews & BTS videos, has been donating continuously & secretly to Korean educational institutions for underprivileged students through his father. He has also made donations to his elementary, middle & high school & his Hiphop & contemporary dance academies continuously as well. Actually Jimin has more stories with this middle school teacher even after he became successful. This story is from the interview of former female student of Jimin’s middle school teacher. Teacher who was concerned about her dropping grade, tried to talk with her to find out the reason. He found out, she was spending most of her time singing & dancing to become like ‘Jimin of BTS’. After seeing her dancing & singing, teacher was trying gently to convince her to keep study but keep dancing & singing as a hobby. She didn’t want to listen, told teacher “If Jimin said same thing, I would study hard & become a top student.” So teacher has sent a detailed story along with her video to Jimin. Jimin who has always kept in touch with his teacher has seen this & called the teacher from his hotel room during his world concerts tour, told her his genuine thoughts, how there are so many talented people in Kpop industry, even with their great talents how hard they have to work & practice, how hard it is to become successful & more. She said Jimin did genuinely listened to her, talked to her, pursued & convinced her to not give up her study. She said thanks to her teacher & Jimin’s advices, she is now a top student in her high school & aiming to go to most prestigious university in Korea.

I absolutely love how you two are not afraid to make large videos. Don't feel pressured to keep making giant ones though. Also whoever is telling you not to listen to their Japanese albums is just... don't listen to them. They have amazing Japanese songs so please enjoy.

They sing in Japanese!!! It’s their second language. This year, they produced an OST for a Japanese movie, Your Eyes Tell, composed by Jungkook. You can find performances of this song on YT.

Nice reaction guys! One point about Jimin, his family were not elite or super rich but actually middle class. At one point in the early days of his dance schooling he was SO talented that the school offered to pay his tuition afraid they would lose him. If you mean he was Elite as in EXCELLENT then yes, he was also offered scholarships to study abroad too. Even though one teacher did suggest he try out for BigHit other teachers were not happy he did and got chosen. They were understandably upset telling people that Busan/Korea/The World has loss an incredible dance prodigy to the Kpop world (I paraphrase) FYI Jimin, being the loving kindhearted angel he is, has donated funds to help students from his hometown and other areas. The latest donation he made has been earmarked to help students in the arts!

Aah, they didn't talk about RM's past as Runch Runda. Or how the lineup wasn't BTS all of a sudden...there was Supreme Boi, Iron... 9 trainees in one room. Jimin was ultimately signed cuz V vouched for him ..they were highschool friends

For Japanese albums, it is normal to make a Japanese album. The 1st Kpop groups, were created in the image of the Japanese ones. Moreover because of their history, Japan and South Korea are "linked" (conflicts currently). In the beginning the Kpop market was Korea and then Japan. TVXQ! is a group that has been number 1 for a long time, before BTS broke their record recently. Japanese fans are very involved as well. Today the promotion is more focused on the USA, and its market is bigger. For my part, I prefer original songs in Korean than in Japanese. On the other hand, the unreleased songs in Japanese like "Your eyes tell". (written by Jungkook) is just beautiful.
On trying to get a ticket for a BTS concert, you can compare it to the "Hunger Games", literally. It's become our slogan in ticket sales. The day before create all the necessary coptes on all the sales sites with the registered credit cards (put them in favorites by the way), the next day (if you managed to sleep) wake up 3 hours before the start of the sale (on multiple pc, phone, tablet), to get in the queue. Arrival the hour, it is to connect to the account, to once again be put in the queue. Arriving on the page (and crying because there's almost nothing left) and then manage to take a place, put it in your shopping cart, but by the time you get to the payment page it disappears. See that almost all VIPs have been bought by Korean women. To cry. Finally get a seat, and try to get a better one on the XD day, not to mention the crazy atmosphere that can be found on social networks. And the most important thing, whatever the place is, is to live a magical moment (because the giant screens help XD a lot) and simply enjoy the party.
I hope you guys could live that, it's a crazy experience. But be prepared because when the concerts will resume it will be worse than the Hunger Games ^^
Thank you for your feedback, you're great! A French Army!

One small criticism so far on that video. The commentator is calling the members by their last name. When he referred to Kim Namjoon as Kim, I was like eh...it’s Namjoon lol.
Edit: Burn the Stage is on RUclips premium. And Break The Silence is on the weverse shop app and it costs $19.99

It’s means they’re actually singing in Japanese. You should listen to the albums, especially Face Yourself. It’s absolutely beautiful. Jin’s vocals in Japanese albums are UNMATCHED. Also when he was talking about the rappers towards the end, if you noticed the picture of Jungkook that popped up at the bottom it’s because he was also supposed to be a rapper. He even rapped in their earlier songs like Boy In Luv. The Social Award is just like social media related like how much they are interacted with in social media.

The social awards they won, particularly the Billboard Social Artist of the Year that they have won 4 years running is basically for the artist with the biggest presence and following on social media. It’s one of the only fan voted categories at the Billboard Awards. You get nominated by being the most mentioned artist on various platforms (but mostly twitter) and then get votes by fans using a certain hashtag.
Prior to 2016 Justin Bieber won the award for the past 6 years. When BTS got nominated the Kpop community went crazy! Around the world! BTS won it, but not only one it, they got nearly 10 times as many votes. Even Kpop fans and Koreans who weren’t fans of BTS voted just trying to get Kpop a bit of recognition in America. Fans also spammed Twitter trying to get BTS invited to the award show because until then they had only been nominated, not actually invited. And it worked!! And ARMY turned out!!! We bought nearly all the audience seating and even though literally no one knew who they were we cheered the biggest for BTS even chanting and singing their songs during the commercial breaks to make sure every major US artist at that award show noticed BTS. TV producers were also shown the value of having BTS on your show or at your award. It was this award, created by ARMYs power and passion and reinforced by the entire Kpop community excited for any recognition of Kpop that broke BTS into America. They already had solid footing around the world and then they used America to actually go back home and dominate Korea...who until them just viewed them as a good, but pretty normal Kpop boy band.

I would reccommend to watch the video with lyrics, you can just watch it twice, we don´t mind. For a few of them I would reccommend to watch the explanation video as well, so it doesn´t go over your head. And I would wait to get into the Bangtan Universe, mainly because it´s loong and intricate (most get confused), it´s made up of a lot of videos, one of the more knowledgable ARMY´s can surely provide the list of videos for BU. And you can do others in the meantime, there is a lot of content not linked to the BU. right of the bat I would suggest Bapsae (w/expl vid from DKDKTV) and Spine breaker (w/ expl vid from DKDKTV) those are songs with heavy social issues. MIC Drop is just awesome, Black Swan, Fire, Save me, Dope, Not Today, ON (both MV´s) and dance practices are always so fun. All these I mentioned are not part of the BU.

The social award is Top social artist. Billboard has a chart that measures the social popularity across all social media. BTS have been #1 for ... I think for over 3 years at least without even ONCE slipping into #2. Since BTS won the top social artist award a lot more kpop artists started appearing on the chart.. and now if you check out the chart I think half of the top 50 social artist are just kpop artist/groups

unfortunately, a lot of the explanation of getting cut from places like jyp, like for j-hope, it actually sometimes has nothing to do with talent. instead, a lot of it was about the 'look' and beauty standards.
