    best bike I have ever had, it's absolutely multifunctional and fun to drive

    I have an older GS, but wanted a form of transport that was easier to just hop on, do a bit shopping, maybe a commute without too much faffing around. I tried the 750 and the 350 back to back and after much riding decided on the ADV 350 for a number of reasons. Firstly it is what it is a powerful automatic scooter with double the storage of the 750 better fuel economy and will happily cruise on a motorway at above legal speed, plus handles really well and weighs nearly 45 kg less than a 750. My view was the 350 does 90% of what the 750 does but the 750 only does 60% of the 350 is really good at. The 350 is also nearly half the price of the 750. I found it really difficult to place the 750, it has its feet in both camps. It’s not an amazing scooter and it’s not an amazing motorbike but it is a good all rounder if you only have the option of one bike, that said even if I never had a GS to use, I will probably still prefer the ADV 350 as I use it pretty much for everything.

      I bought a cheap forza 300 when I broke my hand racing enduros. I ride everyday and thought I would sell it after a couple of months when pins removed but I love it. Ive got a full cover by tucano urbano along with bar mitts.Uprated rear shocks (yss) makes a huge difference. Ive thought about upgrading to a 750 but it will miss the simple joy, the playfulness the cheap and cheeriness Im lucky enough to have a daytona 675r, an r nine t and a ccm supermoto. my ten year old forza is probably my favourite (though dont tell the others) and certainly used more than the others combined.

    You asked...
    What is it about the XADV that attracts people to swap their motorcyle for an XADV?
    In a nutshell, it's a great allrounder.
    More detail...
    1. Bullet proof NC750 Engine.
    2. The long distance comfort of a scooter, with a feel that's half way between a scooter and a motorcycle.
    3. Automatic gearbox, just twist and go.
    4. More power, than most scooters, whilst deliverying excellent fuel economy.
    5. A lot of under seat storage, if adding a decent sized top box, there's no need for panniers, therefore filtering is easier.
    6. Good wind protection, options are available to increase this.
    7. Lower centre of gravity, therefore easier to manoeuvre.
    8. I can't think of a better all rounder, it can be used in almost any scenario (within reason)... Ideal for long distance touring, especially with no gears or clutch to worry about. Just concentrate on road safety and the scenery, let the bike do the gears for you.
    It's annoying that there is no Cruise Control, or even an optional extra of cruise control.

    • @btgmoto
      @btgmoto  3 месяца назад

      Yeah, Honda really missed a trick there. They seem to hide features of the 'big' bikes behind the 'paywall' of upgrading. Some people will NEVER want an 1100 or 1800cc bike, but they do want cruise control. KTM and Aprilia get this. Why not Honda?

      Most adventure riders buy too much bike then load it up with too much gear. Where I live in the north of Spain, I would much rather bip around the mountains on one of those Hondas than a GS. Even the 350 is much more fun. I have lost count of the number of times I have seen GS riders struggle with very basic maneuvers such as ‘stopping and putting a foot down’ or ‘parking’. Forget U turns on a steep incline with you 870kg bikes.

    People buy too much bike these days. I quite enjoy seeing them bounce off the top (1200cc+) and seeing where they land in the mid capacity point. Some even find they have a lot more fun in the 350cc category. With age comes wisdom, with wisdom comes honesty. Its liberating to let go of the ego.

    Re: Electronic settings - I'm *mostly* with you. I'd like to be able to set what I want to have as the default startup, and if I make changes, have those changes stick if not having it shut down for less than say an hour. After an hour, return to *my* default setup. My '16 BMW R12R does half that... It maintains which rider/suspension mode you've set, but always turns on traction control and ABS, and you can't turn it off until you've rolled far enough for the "POST" (power on self test). I've had trouble getting out of loose pea-gravel and sand because I couldn't disengage the system, and traction control kicked in hard enough to stall the bike before I could get it rolling.

  • @Skiamakhos
    @Skiamakhos 2 месяца назад +1

    1:49 alright, it looks like you didn't read the operator's manual before starting out. The N/D rocker on the left switch pod switches between Neutral and Drive. Pressing D again cycles you through the Sport modes, which hang onto the gear a little longer - many feel D is a bit luggy and chuggy. The A/M button in grey to the left of that rocker is the Auto/Manual switch. If you're in D or S and you press A/M it'll no longer read D or S-whatever, it'll just show you what gear you're in.
    Over on the left switch pod there are a thumb lever and a trigger lever in grey. *These* are your gear up and gear down switches. In Manual mode, this is how you switch gear. In any of the auto modes, you can use it to correct an incorrect gear selection, so if it's in 6th & you're chugging up a hill & losing momentum you can shift down, or if you're trying to overtake a truck and you're finding the throttle response too slow, again, shift down. It'll settle back into a higher gear after a few seconds. Likewise if you're storming down a hill & want some engine braking - normally the bike position sensors plus a bit of back brake will trigger the bike's computer to downshift, but you can do it manually even while in auto modes.
    Also: The Left switch pod's enter and back buttons are the "wrong" way round because Japanese people have books that start on the right side cover & go forward turning pages from left to right, the opposite of how we read books, therefore left feels like forwards to Japanese people, and right feels like backwards.

Brilliant engines but after owning one i too am not a fan of the DCT, i would choose the 2nd gen NC750X (slightly higher rev limiter) with a manual gearbox over any of the models with this engine and DCT.

    Great review and assessment. I tested one about a year ago, and it was fully kitted out with all the accessories. I really enjoyed it for the most part, but as you stated, the weight and the ergonomics at low speed were a deal breaker. Not to mention, apparently, it's one of the most sought-after bikes here in London to steal, which was a deal breaker. I went with the 2nd gen xsr900 in the end. Who knows, in the future, I might revisit it. Thanks for putting this together.

    I wonder if it were the same bike but manufactured by KTM or a BMW your final conclusion would be different.

    Nice review, it’s one I’ve always fancied having a go on but never got round to. Think you’re right a hybrid basically a NC 750 with scooter body. It does have a claim to fame in the off road world, back in 2019 Italian Renato Zocchi took it and won the 7000km Gibraltar rally beating KTM 790’s, Husquqrvena 701’s, KTM 690E’s and BMW 800GS’s. A few upgrades to the suspension and exhaust but still a bit of an achievement.

      And 60,000 units sold in Europe. It's pretty practical, especially when you chuck luggage on. Not my cup of tea, but I get the appeal.

    It look like something a prop department would make for a really shitty dystopian movie set in 2035 or something a newly retired single old boy might buy that’s just started riding at 65😂
    TMax still rules the superscoots for me

      That's harsh, but fair. I do have a soft spot for big scoots, but they have to be track prepped JDM Tmax style with fast furious sticker jobs and racing numbers 😂

      @@btgmoto 😆 theres something really cool about a big scoot full leg covers on, loud exhaust, flat out filtering round the Périphérique. Not sure they work on the A52 to Grantham😂

    Reminds me of when they launched these here in Thailand. A group of us used to do some jungle single track and quite technical off-road routes, and one day, Honda decided to do a dealer launch event on our route with a bunch of these - it was total carnage the scooters falling all over the place, getting stuck and having to get help to free them up. An ADV it is not ! 😅

    Why waste our time on a review where you have not spent the slightest time learning how to operate the scooter?

      Well, here's my theory - I'm far from a beginner biker, and if it isn't intuitive and obvious to me, it's gonna be the same or worse for anybody else jumping on to the same bike. Systems should be easy and obvious. Within 5 minutes, I had it figured out, and that was documented in the video - the learning process, I mean.
      I'm sorry that this annoyed you so much that you would recommend RUclips's algorithm to shut down my channel, and that level of anger is noted.
