33 is not old. A 33 year old is equal to a 20 year old in anything athletic, and i would even argue that usually a 33 year old is more athletic IF he/she has kept in shape during 20s
Would have really liked replay or different angles on the core moves of Mejdi's first top, on Sorato we saw a bit more but we basically did not see the core difference of the transition from the press to the top well which seems to have made all the difference.
I think it was the right leg's placement kind of wrapping under that hold which provided stability/anchored them enough to the wall to be able to finish like they did
33:34, that move he made was cleaver, he dropped his arms to push himself with the legs and pickup momento with his arms. I am surprised the rest of the competitors did not see that. all of them is trying to push themself up with their arms. no strength there.
If you mean the other competitors the answer is no. They go to an isolated zone where they wait for the next Boulder to climb. Sometimes climbers can see what’s the next boulder beta from another climber when they climb at the same time, but this will take time for them to top the climb they have in front.
Definitely a bit of a gimmick. But it gets to a point where you need to raise the skill ceiling. I don't think we are anywhere near it, mind you. But it's not a terrible idea to explore different ways of adding difficulty. I don't like the notex holds, I think that it's antithetical to the goal of providing consistency between athletes. I'd personally rather see comp move away from parkour style and increase difficulty through body position. The second to last bolder with the jump up shoulder catch was a really awesome balance between raw parkour style strength and flexibility/body positioning. Unfortunately for the average casual viewer who doesn't climb much if at all (which is the target demographic) these flashy big parkour moves are more exciting because they look impressive. Unfortunately the boulders that are the coolest to watch as a climber are the most boring if you can't understand the difficulty in the movements. I think notex holds would simply just be a bandaid to the problem that would only result in power creep, not a legitimate raise of the skill ceiling. But for safety I'd much rather see notex holds than shit like the women's boulder that ended in a dyno to a duo pocket, or climbs that involve crack jams and mono holds etc. That does raise the skill ceiling, but it also greatly increases the risk of injury. It's a tough problem to solve, but I don't think the time to sort it out is during live competition.
@@randoprior4130 It's interesting, I'm not a climber. Only been bouldering once and did some rope climbing in school ages ago. So it's hard to judge what's reasonable route setting. I guess if the boulder is relatively easy it just becomes more of game of limiting your attempts. I play Discgolf and there is a lot of discussion about tournaments using artificial things to increase the difficulty. At the end of the day everyone is given the same challenge though.
@@randoprior4130 Spot on comparison with parkour. I totally agree that the boulders to watch as climber are more the slow, body positioning than the rush/parcour style. It's not something I particularly enjoy watching and hope it won't keep going in that direction. I guess they just want to make bouldering a complete different speciality from difficulty climbing which kinda makes sense for olympics and such.
@@randoprior4130 While I agree with most of what you said I'm curious. What's so bad about jams and mono? I'm a very average level climber and at the level I'm at they don't feel dangerous when they appear

They would've to take it off if they didn't cut it. Also these are climbing highlights, if you want to watch the full competition go ahead, but you'r on the wrong channel here...😅

Such wholesome to see how happy Mejdi was after topping the third boulder :)
What an amazing performance by Mickael Mawem -- this was his night! Finally! Tears watching him win.
he is 33 years old😮❤
Excellent commentary duo. Brought a lot to it. Shauna particularly enlightening.
What an awesome final round! Route setters as well as the athletes were on 🔥🔥🔥 on this one! 💪🏿💪🏿
Mawem is a god. 33 years old climbing like he is 20. Amazing!

Do you know how old is Adam?
Finally he got medal. Good for him.
@@EdvardBolaasMusic Thats right. I am 40 now and still improving after 16 years climbing
its great to see such a big audience, shows how fast this sport is growing

why are the camera angles so bad at IFSC finals it makes no sense to me. the producers must not be climbers
Amazing competition, awful production

shauna in the commentary, what a treat :)
Mickael Mawem! 33 years old. Much older than the competition so it's very impressive! congrats!
wow! Mawem and his brother speed climb in record time!!

wow, great to see this as a world cup sport.. and YT even did not bother me with ads.. great!
Sorato’s and Lee’s climb were impressive!

Mejdi did that incredible skip on the first boulder and they didn't even replay :D

I really enjoy watching these, but would prefer the commentary not being cut midsentence.
It's a highlight channel, so the video needs to be cut to ensure the IFSC can't just pull it immediately off of RUclips...
