    When I first saw the Garphyttan range (which was about the same time as you), my first thought was that it was wannabe Fjallraven. Then I saw the prices. I can’t justify spending that much. The functionality you can get with a cheap pair of Dunlop work trousers from Sports Direct, you get better quality, from what you say, from decent Army Surplus, or from my new favourites, Sarma from Varusteleka. All at a fraction of the SALE price for this gear.
    Fjallraven has the reputation and still has the quality, and Garphyttan hasn’t.

    Just got som crafter trousers. They're 98%cotton and 2% elastan. That, in my opinion, is perfect. These will not have melt holes due to sparks from the fire. Also, they're NOT skinny. No loose threads or other issues. As for their longevity...time will tell.

    Same feeling here. Bought the same anorak, i liked it lot on the first walks in the woods. Design is good, but the quality is terrible. The jacket seams broke from three different places in one week and also the overall look was messy due the bad sewing.
    Luckily their customer service was exellent, and handled the return without hassle. Got the money back and bought the Särmä Anorak, which cost fraction of the price of Garphyttan.
    I Hope they will get the quality issued sorted.

      Completely agree, customer service is spot on, I didn't get my money back, but then I didn't ask for it. The sarma gear is way ahead of it in terms of quality and the price is right on. Finally someone against the crowd. The sales pointa are quality, simplicity, and heritage. Well, you can find similar gear with same design, quality and solutions for same and lower cost. Gucci also have t-shirts and gloves, but you dont buy that becauae you get better for lower cost elsewhere. Brand means nothing for anyone else than those trying to build it.

    A little late to the party but in terms of the "skinny jeans" comment I would just like to provide an insight. That is not at all unusual for hiking/backpacking trousers. It's intentionally done to reduce the chance of chaffing when you are putting in multi-day, multi-mile trips. From chatting with people who are close to Johan that's the reason for the fit. I am a backpacker first, bushcrafter second, so maybe having that experience helped me understand what was going on with the pants before I talked with my friends.
    As for the anorak I have found that Nikwax Cotton Proof helps *a lot* with poly-cotton blends.

    • @WoolysWorld
      @WoolysWorld  2 года назад

      I get what you mean, but I though they were designed as work/bushcraft/outdoor trousers. I've used wax on my varusteleka smock before but even though it was the same material as the garphyttan it didn't wet through like the garphyttan did before I waxed it. Over all I was really disappointed with the all the gear, some great ideas but very poorly executed. Just poor quality all round. I highlighted all the issues I had with the team but they brushed me off

    The low price in comprison to Fjällräven makes theese products very interesting. Fjällräven has twice the price. At least where I am able to buy gear. Fjällräven completely exploaded in price in the 2010’s or so. The anoraks from both seem to be designed by Johan Skullman.

    • @WoolysWorld
      @WoolysWorld  3 года назад +1

      No updates as yet, they have been strangely quiet since I uploaded this video, basically everything I got had a fault, the velcro on the wrists of the original anorak nearly broke my heart, so bloody annoying. The anorak itself is quite nice I'd a not a little over designed , to many pockets etc. The trousers serve no purpose for me , haven't worn them in months , all style no substance. I'm testing the varusteleka sarma windproof gear at the moment, the opposite of Garphyttan, cheap well made , very simple design. I'd have a look at that, their own brand stuff. But then fjallraven is the best for a reason

      @@WoolysWorld So get some on ebay or second hand? Lots of people buy nice things, put them away almost new and get fat or so. Easilly half price or better then. Fjällräven is some of the highest quality you can get. And here in Scandinavia some of the stuff cost pretty much the same as Garphyttan. Not the high end stuff, but you know - a jacket which is good enough by far, and that youll probably have for the rest of your life.

    Great & honest video review! I have recently bought the Garphyttan anorak (I did watch your vid on it before buying) and have to say that I do like it, though I have to agree with you about the hook and loop on the sleeves. For me there is also a massive design floor with the pockets which I will mention when I do my review. (I'm new to the RUclips videoing.) Fjallraven is expensive (I have a Skogso Jacket) but the quality of their garments is good. It's a shame that, like Fjallraven, Garghyttan can't do more with the waterproofing on their range of clothing. For a big part of the year, here in the UK our air is wet or damp, unlike Scandinavian countries that have a more dryer air. If any manufacture cracks the issue of quality 'waterproof' clothing, I'm sure that they'll take the market.

      Thanks man, I'm still in the review phase with the coat but yes the velcro was a bit of a deal breaker, other small bits are going wrong. It's like the idea is great but the quality isn't , if you know what I mean

      I bought the anorak but I returned it a week later. It looks great and I love the color combinations but it has a couple of design flaws. Pockets I don't understand the design and the Velcro is of poor quality and the buttons are too loose and poor stitching on some parts. I bought the Fjällräven Skogsö jacket instead and it's super great. I'm a bit surprised because Johan Skullman is such a legend and I think overall the clothes look great but something is missing.

    With Johan Skullman (Swedish military survival expert and formally Fjallraven) behind the brand I was expecting better. I have been so close to buying some of their trousers, but as yet have not. I did buy some of their wool socks which have worn out in a very short time - and not from excessive use. I get your point that the design is good, but the sizing and quality is lacking. I am temped by the Varusteleka Outdoor pants instead as my Fjallraven ones are on their last legs - quite literally ho ho! I do have a pair of Lundhags Authentic trousers which are really good, but could get a bit melty at the crotch near a camp fire and I would like to avoid that. Great review - balanced and has saved me money no doubt. Thanks for this and keep the great content coming!

    Sounds like this company is still working out the bugs to an otherwise great outfit, hope things work out.
    As far as Fjallraven, I think they, like many other outdoor or workwear brands, have become a fashion statement which likely lead to a massive surge in sales and therefore more outsourceing production.
    Probably great for investors but for outdoor enthusiests looking for the best quality gear, you don't need to pay the premium now required for the name which is where that money is going.
    They now have their own store located where all the boutique fashion stores are and rent must be insane.
