CLIFFORD HOAD said "I'll never forget being back stage at Sydney entertainment centre, we had just got off the plane from L.A. that afternoon and were invited to see the AEROSMITH show. STEVE TYLER had a copy of Full Frontal Attack on his then modern cd pod playing "Drop The Gun", he had an equalizer on it that could turn the vocal down so he could sing along. He told me he used to be a drummer and asked about the drum fill that I played in "Drop The Gun" where I use the cowbell and where I put that cowbell. He told me , it was the funkiest drum fill he'd ever heard, and said "where's your head at man, how did you beam that one down haha !!!, I said "its all Gene Krupa's fault". I noticed he was wearing black nail polish and chrome. Really charming guy, full of energy, true Rockstar. You've gotta be around people like that, just to learn how its done, like a mechanic or a doctor. This was the true school of rock !
KINGS OF THE SUN - DROP THE GUN by Clifford Hoad.
One of the greatest heavy rock songs ever, self proclaimed! Jeff and I peaked with this song, has all the elements, great riff, fantastic lyrics and a tick tock feel that is typically Australian Rock. This song was done in a aircraft hanger down in the L.A. jungle. Can anyone see our giant banner behind us ?
Jeff got some tips from Bruce Willis in his hair raising flee from the bullets, however he did jump 20 feet into cardboard boxes, yes girls , he does all his own stunt work and kissing scenes. At the end, after he stands on my bass drum, a bone of contention by the way, RCA Records at the time bought me another bass drum just so he could do it, how's that for backing your artists, only in the USA. At the end, its Jimmy Cagney all the way, "Look at me Ma, I'm on top of the world" finally plummeting onto the boot of a 69 Dodge Charger which they also paid for, just for the prop. Jeff and I gave it to one of the camera dolly assistants who worked just as hard as us from 6am to 9pm . 27 takes near killed me, I'd never want to be a movie star, no wonder they all flip out.
Our 2nd album KINGS OF THE SUN, "Full Frontal Attack", your hearing Hendrix's Electric Lady Land studios mix. An underground river runs under the studio giving it, its echoee watery sound. Micheal Chapman was there when we were doing the mixing, our producer, englishman Bill Wittman, and he were playing the tracks back so loud that Jeff or I couldn't stay in the room, Madness but thats the result, an incredible sound. I hope this puts some light on the subject. Thanks everyone for buying the album and loving it!
KOTS FANS, thanks for your wonderful words, its great to know that people are still out there playing our music. The web has been a godsend for people to hear music that they unjustly couldn't get to. Now thanks to you guy's & gals, its all out there to be enjoyed, discovered and shared. Our music is world class, it will just take a while for people to catch up. Great music lives forever, it doesn't go away. The spirit, Jeff and I put into those songs has come through, thats what everyones hearing.
They're timeless feelgood machines! and what a fight it was to keep em like that. With the big brass and producers telling us in the 80's and 90's, that if we didn't bump up our sound we would sound old fashioned, which is what we wanted to sound, classic analogue valve recordings. Natural sound. It certainly was worth the fight!
The long awaited new release of the 5th Kings Of The Sun Album " ROCK TIL YA DIE" has now just opened the doors to the fans for sale as a download on KOTS music page of Kings Of The Sun Band Official website. Hard Copy Limited editions are also still available in our store, but hurry, they're going fast !

Get well Cliff, Rock on!
What a fucking song. The drummer absolutely kills this. Such a shame they never got the recognition they blatantly deserved.
But those who know, it’s a damn good club to be part of
Heavy Rock and Pop 💪🏽
La Heavy, 1990 - 1995.
What a classic track. How is this not even on Spotify?
One of the most underrated songs of all time. Needs millions of views.
Thanks Josh, it would be great if we did get millions of views ;)
What a song - touch of 'Respectable' by Rolling Stones
Yeah I reckon the stones ripped us off on that one 😂
How can Drop the Gun still kick ass this much so many years later? This riff should win the Nobel Prize of rock. This takes me back to the dorm rooms at college in Bozeman, Montana. We literally cranked Full Frontal Attack daily for a year. It was epic, and thank you for creating what to this day is still an impeccable hard rock album!
Another great song from Cliff. It's weird how some great bands never get the recognition they deserve. Kings are definitely one of them.
Thankyou Mattias, wish we had of though, it's a tough life when all you know is how to write & play music !
Sounds like a mix of AC/DC and Dokken. And I mean that in a good way. And now that I think about, a hint of Aerosmith. This song rocks!!!! I’m gonna check it out some more.
@@ruthylopez I don't hear Dokken here, but maybe that's how AC/DC would've sounded if Steven Tyler became their singer in 1980...
Still love it in 2022
That’s great to hear mate 🤘🥁👍
This song is in our regular rotation setlist when we play shows. People go ape shit over it
Jeff Hoad is a amazing " seriously gold. where is here now"?
KOTS always great stuff. Listened them already back in 80's here in Finland. Bought lp's(later on cd) and so on.
Ok. I'm sold. The best dam thing I've heard that's made me smile. This tone is like trying to jog through 4 feet of tar, and the smooth odd timing and chops from the drummer is spot on. Reminds me a bit of different bands. Such as, Russian Circles, Mammoth Volume, Natas, and Lowrider.
killer track, drummers got mad chopz
Has to be one of the best rock songs ever
The singer sounds so much like Bon Scott
I bought this tape(before CD came out) Whole thing sounded saw raw. Just like everything thereafter! That's what makes them special!
Saw the Kings play with Sammy Hagar in 1998 & Kiss in 2001.
I have their debut on regular rotation - since 1989
Im amazed by how much the singer sounds like Bon Scott of ACDC.
Damn i love these boys and i am not even that way. Drummer mate, Keith Moon vibes. Every spare space is a fill, love it.
Yeah mate, I’m no timekeeper 😂
Still one of the best R-n-R songs around; my younger daughter still loses her mind when this comes on. Heck, she even sings it at pre-school (they hassled me at first, but then noticed the dark blue Crown Vic w/push bumpers and lights). Whole reason why she has a drum pad set is this song
This was on my old Headbangers Ball vhs tape. The only song I heard from them.
great
@CliffordHoad - Ha, ha, ha...you guys are more than welcome to come through again! Let me know, I'll get you to a couple of "Petrol Head" sites here that will blow your mind. Katya (my younger one) would fall over seeing you, too.
@CliffordHoad Thanks Cliff- you fellahs coming to the US this year? If you or when you do, hopefully you guys can get up to Seattle. I'd enjoy seeing you guys again- you guys were up here in '89 for the opening of KXRX (now a different format) and it was going so strong that the electrical service blew out. But it was a great show and you guys were a blast.
Saw them play when they toured America circa 1990. They were even better live.
Aussie Pride
A forgotten GREAT Aussie ass kicking band, LOVED them! \m/
OBLITERATORS = on sound cloud .. Bogga & jeff?,,,,,,, Cliff Hoad lives on a higher wave length' trust me it is true? they are all gold" we need to appricate these guy's..rock on"
Know why this song has never been covered? Because it's PERFECTION!
A lot of youtubers are doing reaction videos of songs from all genres. They talk about keeping good music alive. I have asked a few of these youtubers to react to this song and gave them some background info on the band and how their U.S. touring got killed because someone was offended. I'll keep plugging until someone does a reaction to this and "Road to Nowhere" and "Serpentine". Then I'll introduce them to "Fire on the Mountain" and "Rock til ya Die", etc. When the viewing numbers start shooting upward, you'll know that I finally convinced someone to do it. I even contacted Sirius/XM radio to try and plug "Fire on the Mountain". It's just one of these things where you have to get ears on it and the rest will take care of it's self. All you other Kings fans have got to help me out by plugging these guys everywhere you can. They deserve to be noticed and remembered.
This song, Drop the Gun needs to be requested to XM host Jim Florentine. He'll play it...
It takes a special fan like yourself to get behind a band that was pushed to the wayside of rock ‘n’ roll history but God what a band. Kings Of The Sun are one of the greatest rock bands to ever come out of Australia, all the best mate, thanks for your support.
Clifford Hoad 😊🤘👍
I saw these guys at The Whisky-A-Go-Go in 1990. I still have a shirt and special edition CD from that night.
Cliff and Jeff move next-door to me in Malibu CA . Great guys we had a blast What an incredible band !!!!
Here in 2022, and this tune STILL ROCKS. 👍🤟🤘🎸
For some reason some songs just do not date and this is one of them. it sounds as fresh today as when we first recorded it. Thanks, Cliff
The amazing thing about Cliff's incredible drumming on this song is that he is using a basic kit - snare, tom-tom and bass drum, high-hat and four cymbals.
That's literally what 90% of drummers play on
Well, to be brutally honest, the kit is 5 pieces with one rack tom, two floor toms, bass drum & snare with four cymbals. It's a fairly common setup nowadays.
@@furzan2006 tru, except the gong type cymbal in the back. That's different.
YEEEEEAAAAAHHHHH
Fuck it was good to watch that again. Love you bastards!
Killer Song
hey!!! now you're talking!!!
Please add this to your playlist, share, give us a thumps up & go ahead & make a comment or ask me a question ? ROCK TIL YA DIE , Clifford Hoad
This song is one of my top 10 songs of forever! Love playing along on my kit of Premiers! Love the rock shuffle kickass craziness that comes from behind! Pound on mate! Perfectly unique sound!, although a college
DJ aired them as an obscure Aussie band! Well that was a crock of shit! Genius! How fitting is that song today?
@@andrewkeller1266 Hi Andrew, it is a great track to drive along to. I had my favourites when I was a kid playing along to certain songs, never got sick of it, drop the gun's got that tick-tock rhythm and you can experiment with fills good luck. Cliff
I wish they would put their old stuff on apple music. These guys definitely kicked ass.
Check out our website George, you can download it from there mate.
@@kingsofthesunband hey thanks a lot man I got it. Yee haw, right on.
@@georgeburdine5660 Just go to the store & then music & then downloads George :) www.kingsofthesunband.com/
I had many a drunken night at a Pub seeing Bands like Kings of the Sun in the late 80's.
I remember the Drummer would reach around behind his back to hit one of the cymbals.
A girlfriend of mine thought the Band were "on themselves".
I always thought the Band should've based themselves in L.A. and been as flamboyant and over the top as they wanted to be.
Australia can be a restrictive market for some Bands.
I preferred to see this Band and others with drunken mates than with my girlfriend.
Fuckin' awesome song and band !!!!
Amazing❤

YEAH
cool:)
Awesome come back Kings
Cliff, you guys are the best kept secret in rock. The last time I said that was after seeing ac/dc as an opening act for Savoy brown in 8/78!!! Deserve all the recognition you can get...nobody rocks like the aussies!!!
Sort of like the cult but Aussie , very lovely to look at ha ha Geoffrey Hoad u are just addictive to watch xo
I listen to this song EVERY effing day when I'm pushing steel...This song's got more balls than a Siamese elephant!
Aussie Pride!
I can’t remember if it was 89’or 90’ the first time I heard this song but it’s just as great today is was the first time. Rock on!
93 Rock in Sacramento, CA had this on heavy rotation when I was a kid but I couldn’t find the album in stores anywhere. I had a recording of it off the radio back then but couldn’t remember the name of the band. I found this video recently and it brought back a flood of memories!
Great song!
Still one of my favourite bands!
0:14 Yeh
one of the greatest and underrated kick ass bands ever, so much in common with Jason and the Scorchers who they remind me of.
Yeah we have a certain similar sound, great band, thanks David for writing in & showing us ya style. Cliff
Any of you bands out there looking for ideas for a film clip, this is how you do it! a great band style shoot. None of that standing an old factory pretending to look cool and doing the same shit everyone else has done. Actually have an IDEA first like this and do NOT skimp on the editing. Look and learn boys and girls. oh and dont suck to begin with, kick arse BEFORE you film it.
Kick-ass song with bad-ass drumming - now this is REAL rock 'n' fuckin' roll!
Remember listening to this song when it came out on my local rock station WAAf. 107.3 they played it always . swimming in my pool with my friend we would always sing this song & jump in the pool when you guys would say he came out screaming I don,t wanna die. awesome song. love it memories. of being a teenager.
This is one of my all time favorite unknown songs and videos. I love the choreography and unorthodox drumming. I can't play this one loud enough!
joeg816 Thanks mate, music to my ears :) Have heard my latest album, I drum & sing on all of it. ruclips.net/video/a3p14_wP39c/видео.html
Hit share if you think this song ....... ROCKS!
Mr. Hoad is the definitive rock and roller. He is probably a legend down under. He, his brother, and the rest of the band should be world-renowned. IMO...
Great band; not sure what happened to them
The Hoad brothers (who founded the band) became estranged.
Yeah....
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Killer Tune!
A candidate for my favourite Aussie rock song. Big statement I know but great musicianship, energy and poise on display.
1990!! Awesome video from an awesome band !! Great Aussie rock 'n' roll. For the 2 assholes that disliked this, you should be ashamed of yourselves, very ashamed.
+thrasher1889 Thanks mate & I agree !
Dude sounds just like Bon Scott.
Love KINGS OF THE SUN. Hard rock gods.
I'm on top the WORLD too, thanks to Kings!🤯❤✌
AWESOME 🤘🤘🤘
Just A Kick-Ass Song, as Kings Of The Sun ROCKS !!!
Thanks mate, have you heard our latest album called ROCK TIL YA DIE ?
I just spent over an hour listening to it and it absolutely frickin' ROCKS, so I'll definitely be ordering the CD and can't wait to crank that baby in the car. Cheers from Canada, as I really hope you guys tour here someday, cause I've seen a lot of great bands in my lifetime and would be proud and honored to witness a Kings Of The Sun concert one day. Crank It Up and Rock Til Ya Die !!!
great band! you from the Soo?
I agree and yes I am.
i lived in the Soo for 3 years 77-80
This is what a rock song should sound like. In your face, kick ass power!
Covering Serpentine with my band....Just wish I could rewind time and have KOTS around again.
Saw them live at the Ritz in Detroit for this tour. They tore it up! So much energy and just kicked like this video. Drummer was every bit as cool live as in this video! Reminded me of Keth Moon how he looked while playing and he just threw down. Awesome song that pumps you up. Thanks for sharing!
Had this as a ring tone for some time! This is an awesome song & so is the LP Full Frontal Attack. Rock Til' Ya Die is DEFINITLEY worth owning as well, brilliant.
I'll never forget just about having a heart attack when i opened up Full Frontal Attack for the 1st time and seeing the Hoad brothers posed with a 440 sixpack '70 challenger.
Mopars & rock & roll!!
Thanks Jeff Randall, I’m still loving Mopars, we all know the olé saying “Mopar or no Car, it still goes to this day for me, just like our love for rock n roll, these feelings will never die !
KINGS OF THE SUN KICK ASS!!!!!!!!!
i want to see a kots show so bad!
been a fan for 23 years.
Freakin love it. Damn good
Great band . Best drummer Australia has produced
I saw these guys at the Ballard Back stage in Seattle in 199?? Was totally blown away!!! party with them after..... Drank so much!!! I still think once in a while HOW much FUN these guys were!!
Thanks for commenting mate, its one of my faves too !
I wore my FFA tape out playing this song (and Vampire) over and over again. Ah good ol days.
All these years on and this album hasnt aged at all. Best support band I ever saw - with Kiss at Bham NEC early 1990s. Class.
Seen these guys play at coogee bay Selina's before Sammy Hagar unbelievable live stacks of energy and awesome musicians drummer was amazing 😀
Clifford, I'd so love to get the CD that this song is on. I had it on tape but, well, it's the next century. I had a look on you website, said that it wasn't available. How the hell can I get the CD? I so miss this album.
Hey Watiggi, you can buy the download instead ?
I remember this vid when I was 15, what a band.
Got my recognition...
So damn good!!!
One of my favourite KINGS songs as well, had all the elements. Tick tock beat revolving riff, killer lyrics, it felt like you could play it all night on stage, thanks for your compliment.
Clifford Hoad Black leather and Serpentine awesome songs , what a brilliant band , and soooooooooo sexy and energetic 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🍷🤪💙
It's bluesy and doesn't age. Great work.
Vampire is even better historic song
Classic Rock Tune from late Eighties Very early 90's. Loved this tune Loved this band. Great Aussie ensemble with raw attitude
Hi Cliff, I am a big fan of KOTS, I love this song and it was always in the last set of my covers band and always blew everyone away, you are one of the great rock frontmen of all time - rock on
Seriously a kick ass song in any era.!
Hard rock Kings forever.
Thanks for your post, sorry about the delay Beezle, been in the studio trying to lay down some drum tracks in the same fad as drop the gun . Playing the Norwegian shows was fabulous, really felt at home there. Just written a song a tribute to the Vikings on the new album called Hearts Ablaze. I remember that big lake up there in Oslo where they sailed out of , I'll never forget it, hope you'll like when the album comes out, I'll keep you posted. Thanks again for your drum praise ! Cliff
This song is one of the great rocking out songs in existence! I was going thru some old home video tapes trying to digitize them and came across this.... glad I found it again.
+cwbypilot So am I mate, have you heard my new album ?
Great Stuff Clifford!
Always a Goodun, timeless bit of great rock and roll.
Still love this album after all these years!!
