  • Most malls in Africa are just as equipped as those in the West. Don't believe me? Join me for some Saturday afternoon shopping in Windhoek, Namibia, for a glimpse of the local shopping culture!
    Music: Dr Malinga ft Oskido "Jika " (This song is not mine and it is only here for educational/entertainment purpose; all credit goes to the artist!)

      Well, I used to live in Namibia and I'll say this: Upon entering most stores you either have to check large bags or the security guard will staple any plastic bags that you have. So, that puts a bit of a twist on the stealing mentality. They try to be more proactive in a sense.

I promise if you take that first step, you will truly learn what LIFE is all about. Not merely existing, not surviving, but actually living. This woman is LIVING. Strive to be like her, one step at a time.

    The song playing in the background, is Zulu, surely produced in Johannesburg. Remember Namibia was runner by apartheid government, so it is similar to South Africa, I can see Sterns, Pick n Pay shops, those are South African chain stores. Dr. Malinga is playing in the background.

We have many new shopping centres, like Gika, which is probably the biggest in Africa with 300 stores, Belas shopping, We have another 10 mall sunder construction throughout the country. And don't worry about getting shot by police or followed because you're black. Nobody will do that here, why? because we are all black LMFAO. Please visit along with Nigerians, Ghana, South Africans, you're all invited. peace

      +Kani N It kinda helps when the population is as small as it is. My hometown of Dar es Salaam (in Tanzania) has a population of over 5 million people, which is over 2X the entire population of Namibia. I find that the smaller the population is, the cleaner the cities are in that country.

    You are in Africa why do you want to go to places that give you the feel that you are in America or in Europe? And I am very sure that also in Namibia you can buy a cloth at the local market and have a local tailor make a beautiful dress for you, in this way you support the local economy because the big malls belong to investors from abroad like South Africa

      Do you know that most Black Americans hate to be refer to as Africans? The term "African American" is a pejorative term for most of them.
      You should ask your West African brothers who live in the US to tell you since most of you in the southern part of the continent don't travel much.

    • @mbukusambukusa6952
      @mbukusambukusa6952 9 лет назад +3

      do you also know the reason why they hate to be called Africans? its because of exaggerated stories reported by the international media all that they report is just about failure.
      they hardly talk about our success or our achievements.
      so for now we just want unity among blacks,they divide us through stories that aint true they don`t want us to be united.
      and another thing fabrice izzo,we travel man we visit europe so much than America.so don't say that we dont travel much.

    • @fabriceizzo2922
      @fabriceizzo2922 9 лет назад

      Mbukusa Mbukusa
      True but you don't travel nearly as much as West Africans and Northern East Africans who actually live abroad for an extended period of time. Do you know about the history of the Black American immigrant in Liberia and how the treated and are still treating the indigenous people? You should research that.

    • @mbukusambukusa6952
      @mbukusambukusa6952 9 лет назад +1

      they should stop that story of mistreating their own,that`s why white people don't respect them its because they hate each other and Africans. unity is power if they want to be respected they should unite with their own people,who will love you if you hate your own people.

    • @mbukusambukusa6952

    Nice video thanks for uploading. As a Black Briton I went to school with people who were originally from Zimbabwe who told me a lot about this side of Africa that is never shown in the media. The shopping, the weather, how built up it is and how multicultural it can be in areas (It's not just black African's only). A far cry from the wilderness that the media and educational establishments portray it to be over there. My only concern though was I know there are some black Africans who consider us "white man's slave" and have experienced hostility in areas of the UK which they are the majority. But overall they are really friendly people so it's very interesting to see how a black person from outside of Africa views it from the inside. Again thanks for sharing and look forward to seeing more videos from you.

      Everything is not really black, you probably need to be cognisant of the history and the dynamics of what it is that you are seeing. Its been approximately 60 years of the first country being politically independent and Namibia is one of the newly independent states. The settlers are there, mostly in the land they have apportioned to themselves. A lot of the retail shopping is owned by them, so again put things in perspective.

    LOVE your videos! Well done, great content and fascinating content. Love seeing how the rest of the world does everyday things! Just a quick suggestion because it sounds like you do a lot of dividing by 10. Just move the decimal point (or comma in Europe) over one spot to the left - N$525.00 / 10 = $52.50. Hope that helps.

      But LOL I see this will forever haunt me. I definitely know how to quickly divide anything by 10... it's just that at the time (and also today) the exchange rate wasn't exactly ten... so I was actually guestimating about 12/13 in my head.. but went along with the 10 :-)

    When you do the math the prices for most things (at least at the shoe store in the mall) are pretty much right around the same prices as here in the U.S. I know someone asked already but HOW do people live in Namibia with so much less money? What are the typical "higher paying" jobs that people have in Namibia to be able to afford the more expensive things
    Anyway, Ive said it before but I am a white female living in the US and I am a huge fan of your videos!!

    The prices are listed in Namibian dollars. 1 US Dollar is equal to 10.01 Namibian Dollar. Therefore, the prices are actually much lower because of the conversion rate.

    How many organic food options are out there? I know you can grow your own but i'm so used to shopping at Whole Foods and i'm wondering what the adjustment would be like if i were to go... any ideas about that?

    • @kume101

      food is organic as can be in Africa whole food can never compare.

    • @gabrieladava9900
      @gabrieladava9900 8 лет назад +6

      +Hadarah BatYah I believe that if you shop at the market (not the supermarket) the food will be organic. I'm from Mozambique. I actually never wondered about food being organic or not until I moved to England, and when I'm back home I don't really think about it lol. We grew up understanding that it is better to shop at the market because it is cheaper and of better quality. Although in recent years more and more people shop at the supermarkets (as the younger generation is taking over)

      Hey am from Kenya from the Super Market most are some what organic at least that I can say from Kenya since we export major veggies but at the local markets guaranteed 100% organic like she says we do not wonder if its organic here I highly doubt she would grow in the apartment block but here in Kenya there are lease holds of up to $100 an acre a year where you can experiment on organic farming or yet commercial farming even the meat is earthy in taste here rich in mama Africa's blessings

    • @Morrrey
      @Morrrey 8 лет назад

      please note that most chemicals are used for exported farm produces that are generally standardized and most Kenyans don't actually use them as we prefer more local veggies that are actually disease and pest resistant than those needed in the commercial markets outside the country I think I should do a on this so that people may understand

    Hey hun where are some good places so visit and live in namibia. How much is the hourly rate of pay. And how much is it to rent a house or apartment in namibia.

    • @motherlandmemoirist4418
      @motherlandmemoirist4418 9 лет назад

      vernae gardenhire Hey, I lived in Namibia for 2 years and I'd say as a black person to avoid living the south and Swakopmund. Unfortunately those areas are populated by several whites and of those whites you may encounter racism. However, central Namibia, the north and east are fine in regards to living. Now, you can visit anywhere, but as you know, living and visiting are two different things. The hourly rate of pay depends on the job. I'd say just google the pay rate.

    Kenya is another country that is just as amazing !yet they only show the starving people and slums!i returned home after 8 years abroad and was suprised at the developments.And for those people asking how many of the shopping malls and supermarkets are African owned? actually many and those that arent have African shareholders !even in some countries in europe their malls arent owned by the locals...for example in czech republic some malls are owned by Israelis,Germans etc
