I would miss half of my life socializing with my kids and grandkids and friends if I went to bed at 8:30 just so I could set my alarm to be up at 4:00 am. I can’t even wrap my head around this lifestyle. But you guys aren’t retired so maybe you just have such busy lives you have to do this. I’m thankful for slow, simple living and guilt free lazy mornings. I still have all day to exercise and read my Bible and work in my garden.
Toilet, shower, dress, drink lemon water, make coffee, do stretches - while focusing on breathing, do special Qi Gong healing movements, do Qi Gong 18 movements, say affirmations, pack lunch things for work, drive to work. I’m 64 & this has been my routine for at least a year.

Great thoughts about setting a routine. People need to set their own, but the concept is gold. I sleep about midnight to 7-8am and I cannot get up and drink 12oz of water. It is physically impossible as my swallowing muscles are uncoordinated and swallowing more than an ounce or so means I'll be sick and likely lose it or just be miserable. I rinse my mouth and sip a couple of swallows, and that's all my stomach tolerates. 30minutes to an hour later I drink a big glass of water and it is time to go stretch and exercise. I quit eating breakfast "in the morning" about age 14 when I figured out that it was making me sick at least 50% of the time. I used to eat something mid-morning at work, but the last few years I only eat between about noon and 6pm.
This video is a game-changer! Starting the day with these tips is sure to boost productivity and keep procrastination at bay. Thank you, Retirement Transformed, for the inspiration! -Macy (Team Evan)
Turn off alarm, Make bed, bathroom, exercise, pet care, breakfast, devotions, Instrument practicing and varies from there; relaxing to major projects depending on what's going on.
I kind of thought one of the rewards/goals of being retired is that we "don't" have to wake up to an alarm anymore. Not yet retired, husband is -- a big pleasure is not having to function around a set time for everything. I get that routines can be helpful, but isn't part of what we worked for all our life is to be able to relax and not be so regimented in retirement life? Probably looks different for everyone. Thanks for your content!
We like to share what we find works for us and what recent research suggests. And yes, we all should live the life we want especially after working for so many years. Being active and moving a lot is still very important. If you can do that without having to schedule it then that’s great. We find having a schedule and getting up early works better for us.
Lazy is good and needs to be embraced. Don't make it a habit but understand that everyday doesn't have to be wide open at 100mph. Everybody has a different idea of their dream retirement. That being said I'm like Mike. Early riser 4 to about 6, drink some water(because I'm thirsty) now I know why, then catch up on the over night news and today's weather. About 7-8 I start my day. A little coffee talk with the baby then exercise and a walk. I do believe getting off to a good start helps with the rest of the day. I ain't jumped out of bed in decades. For me it's more of a noisy crawl. 🤣 Great video. Thanks. Steve
First thing: 5AM Bathroom, Pills for the day, bible devotion, start caffeine, boot up PC, respond to email. 7:30 Shower. RTG 8AM. Phone Scrolling? MAYBE at 10 AM.. I probably should add morning exercise at some point.. YES.. on the next realistic goal!
I definitely need lists and plans to be effective, whether its work or home projects. And now that we are getting close to retirement my list is full of things to get the house ready to see - getting rid of stuff, fixing stuff, etc. I personally target 3x a week at the gym and walking my dog every day. But, I keep thinking I need to start either treadmill or bike on the other days. Just haven't gotten myself to do it yet...
Bathroom duties and then wash face with cold water to get face freshened up. After, get some water, and then lately been reading and being intentional about the exercises from your book Mark before get on with the rest of the day.
For me it gives me time to set my day. It is early but it really works for me. The main point is to consider getting up every day at the same time and have a routine.
The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is to take my pill for hypothyroidism as I need to wait 30 minutes before I can have coffee. That’s the second thing I do is to make coffee.
I think mental and emotional health has a lot to do with committing to a morning routine. Anxiety and ADHD have a big effect on my ability to be productive and keep to routines.
I'm curious why you set an alarm if you get up at the same time every day. If you need an alarm maybe you're not sleeping enough. Otherwise this video really resonates - I want to solidify my morning exercise routine because I don't love exercise but recognise the benefits however I'm still fairly new to not working so still figuring out what works for me 🙂
This is Mark. I set my alarm for 4:00 because I like using this early time to do my routine. It's important to me. But I usually wake before the alarm. I set it just in case. I don't use an alarm on weekends. When I get up on weekends, I do the same routine except I don't go to the gym. But on weekends i'm usually up naturally be 4:00 anyway. Sometimes I can fall back to sleep to 5:00 which is always a treat.
That's a powerful way to frame it! Just like the divine command to bring light, starting with clear vision and illumination can transform any situation. Thanks for sharing this inspiring perspective! 🌟
We get coffee, sit for a few with it… then start exercising. We exercise hours a day before stating our workday. When we retire we plan to do the same except work after we exercise. 😊
@@RetirementTransformed yes, you guys do a great job! I’m just a little more casual , I’m still working and don’t work as hard as you, but you can learn things from all levels and views
I don't do many mind games/exercises. I should, but I get impatient. I need to work on that. Jody has been doing Wordle for years. Since it came out I think.
You are not the first person to say this. For me I am focused on reaching 90 in amazing shape. Physically and mentally. The I may want to think about how to live my next 10 years. But you bring up a good point. Maybe I'm thinking 90 is realistic and 100 is a stretch. I know I can reach 90 and be physically independent. Celebrate a bit then move forward. Thanks for making me think more about this.
First thing I get on my knees and pray!
That a great start to any day!

Playing sudoku, coffee and gardening
Sudoku is a great brain exercise. Good for you. And gardening great for mental wellness.
A shower, getting dressed, and getting a tea or coffee is essential.

Yup!
Thank God for allowing me to see his day, bathroom break, turn on coffee pot, let the dog out, shower, check email, read the papers front page.
Great routine
We thought we were early risers. 4am? Madness. And since we've been retired, we only set our alarm if we need to make a flight or an appointment.
For me it gives me time to set my day. It is early but it really works for me. The main point is to consider getting up every day at the same time and have a routine.
That's what we do. Anything passed 6:30 and we feel we've wasted the morning
Concentrate on the effort and the results will follow!
Great saying. Thank you
Excellent and insightful video.
However I am undergoing a severe fatigue for the word goal.
What exactly is your struggle with the word Goal in this video?
The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is to take my pill for hypothyroidism as I need to wait 30 minutes before I can have coffee. That’s the second thing I do is to make coffee.
Sounds like a good morning routine. I love my first cup of coffee!
I think mental and emotional health has a lot to do with committing to a morning routine. Anxiety and ADHD have a big effect on my ability to be productive and keep to routines.
You are so correct.
F.i.r.s.t. thing to do is; MAKE YOUR BED. There's a very good reason this is driven into the head of every military recruit in basic training.
Yes for sure. That first felling of accomplishment is important
Do you guys actually sleep through the night? Between dogs, bladder, and training of 8 children I literally NEVER sleep through the night.
I tend to snore a bit, that wakes Jody. But we are working through that.

For sure the first thing I wouldn’t do is set an alarm. Waking up naturally that early is one thing
There’s something so refreshing about waking up naturally. Have you noticed any difference in how you feel without an alarm? 😊⏰🌞
Coffee, meditate, exercise
Perfect morning!
First Switch on the lights..... just as God did , God commanded, "Let there be light." And there was light, and the darkness could not overcome it.

If you get up at 4am then when do you go to sleep?
Usually between 8:30 and 9:00. But can certainly hang late if we have something going on.
I drink two 12 oz glasses of water and then spend some time in quiet time with Jesus.
Perfect
Take my meds, start the coffee, take care of dogs, get ready to walk or go to work.
Perfect start to the day. Thank you
