Great video kid. I like the initiative you show. Small tip from a pro... when disconnecting the tie rod, strike the flat spot on the spindle with the hammer. Thats why its there. It will allow you to disconnect the tie rod easier than it was by striking the castle nut, and it also enables you to reuse the tie rod without risking damage to the stud, the threads, or the castle nut. The same trick works for ball joints as well. If you need further clarification please feel free to PM me. Im always happy to help a young gear head with their learning curve. Hello Thatlowdsg, I am helping with a K member on a Bullit, never done one before. Your video was very well done. One tip, loosen both control arm bolts and the control arm will swing down easily. Then take the front bolt completely out. Remove the nut from the rear bolt and the arm can be lifted enough to remove the rear bolt. Tip on getting tie rod ends out easier... hit with 3 lb or 4lb sledge at the knuckle where the tie rod goes up. Hit it hard a few times and it falls right out
Great video I appreciate it. One question… well maybe a few you removed all of that cuz your installing a new K member and new parts? So, I’m just trying to install long tubes and would like to keep as much of the things I can have attached to the K member like the A-arms, and power steering rack and like you just station it forward near the front of the radiator with the lines attached hopefully they can reach pretty far or far enough it doesn’t get in the way of space. So I do I have to remove it all to install the headers cuz most of that stuff is attached to the K-member except the frame bolts and motor mounts or engine mounts and etc? Any advice would be appreciated. Thinking of tackling this project this Saturday- Tuesday

It's best to hit the side of the knuckle if you plan on re using your tie rods but with a set up like this you probably should be updating to bump steer anyway
I’m about to drop my k member to fix an exhaust leak and put some nice shorties on it vs these crappily welded long tubes someone threw on. I will say this, a ball joint press is only 15$ and saved me almost half an hour of time. Knuckle and tie rod end were the worst.

Sorry for the late reply, but thanks for watching I’d say just soak the remaining bolts in pb blaster overnight, and if you just doing the pan gasket you don’t even need to fully drop it you can drop it enough to get the pan down and replace the gasket. I hope the vid and comment can help!
If I was only doing this only to remove and reseal the oil pan gasket, would you recommend dropping the K member all the way for extra clearance? I mean, how much harder would it be to drop it completely as opposed to lowering it? Great video btw, extremely detailed and informative!
I appreciate it but if you’re just doing that reseal follow this video as proceeds. Then once you have the K member completely loose just lower it with a jack slowly till you can get to the seal (break the bolts first while the K member is secure) but that should be it
@@Thatlowdsg Sounds good, I'll give an update when I'm through. I should also mention I'm doing this on a V6, but everything looks basically the same. Thanks for the quick reply
Yes I should’ve mentioned it’s the same setup on the v6 maybe just different size bolts on the motor mounts but Goodluck anymore questions feel free to ask.
@thatlowdsg If I just need to get the Oil pan off. How far into this guide and taking everything apart do you have to get before you can just wiggle the pan out? Or do you basically have to drop the whole thing all the way still?
If your just doing an oil pan seal you can leave the control arms on leaving the shocks still connected to the knuckle but not the camber plates. And Loosen the K member as I showed allowing you to get to the oil pan bolts, but if your doing something major under there you might have to drop it all the way
Did you have to disconnect any specific lines??? Needing to drop my k member but im trying to do my research onto doing so first. Just not wanting to lower it and i miss a line or something i wasnt aware about.
For anyone else following this be careful putting your jack on the flat part of the crossmember the Jack has a tendency to slip off if you're not careful
This is the reason I’m watching. I jacked it up the same way he did this morning. It fell right on the oil pan. Crushed it. Gotta do the oil pan now 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Great video! Where did you get the harness bar to support the engine. Thanks for your help. My 98 GT has the long headers, and I am removing them and updating the system..Jim.
Technically you don’t need to remove the control arms if you’re going tubular k member + arms. But for now im using my stock arms so I took them off. You could drop it all as one unit!
The only difference I can think would be the motor mounts, should use the same K member and design / process and since your doing the pans you won’t even need to fully drop them
For you people that their car is not as clean as his is, cut your control arm bolts out. Lots of times they don't come out as easy as his did. Make sure you order the bolts as you just can't find them at any auto parts store. CJ Ponys and LMR have them. A ball joint stud tool and a tie rod stud tool will make removing them easier too. Oh get the spring back in is made a lot easier with a maximum motorsports front spring installation tool.
Yes you need a brace or something supporting the engine when you do this job. Because the K member and motor mounts keep your motor in place / support the engine so if you replace your K member or remove it you need an engine hoist or some sort of cross brace like I used!
Think this took me half a day maybe less if I didn’t film. But no you don’t need to disconnect the pressure hoses just make sure the rack n pinon is supported though. I used buckets to hang it.
I’m trying to fix a header leak. Is it really required I unbolt the steering rack from the k member since it’s going right back in? Trying to leave as much stuff together as possible when I drop it
No, you could keep the steering rack bolted to the K member however you’ll need to disconnect it from the steering shaft. Also have to consider the lines going into the rack so you’d have to be careful not to damage those.
You did a really good job on this video! Quick question. If im not replacing my K member but rather need to remove it for header bolt access do the lower control arms and springs need to be removed?
If you’re just removing the K for Header access youd only need to remove the spring. The control arms can stay connected! Thank you for the feedback as well. Glad the vid could help!
@@Thatlowdsg it would appear you clearly know your way around but in case you are like me looking for specific install or removal videos to help before digging into a project my channel has a few on my 97 Cobra. Thanks again.
Hi, im wondering if you could help me out. I have a 2001 mustang gt and im having a loose steering issue. its very exaggerated at highway speeds, where it feels like the center of the wheel has play. almost like im driving on ice. so far ive replaced the steering shaft with a maximum motorsports solid one, replaced the rack and pinion (with new inner and outer tie rods) lower control arm ball joints, and front tires. Ive also added lowering springs with caster camber plates. still cant get rid of the sloppy feeling :/ not sure where else to go now.
Hello steam train my apologies for seeing this late. With everything you described it would be my honest opinion to take it to a certified tech or an alignment shop that allows aftermarket/ specializes in aftermarket alignments. I have a video coming out shortly going over my loose steering too.. Sorry mate hope you best of luck too.
Honestly can't give you a definitive answer. It may share the same crossmember as a fox body with the similar v6 motor. The 94-95 being the first years of that body style having different motors then the 4.6 I couldn't tell you exactly but hope this helps some.
ajesuspension.com/product/79-04-mustang-universal-engine-mount-k-member/ heres the link to check it out yourself, and yes it can still maintain the factory control arms and springs. I’m still running the factory control arms for now and they fit good. Springs should work just fine as well.
Question I got the kmembers will you need the springs perched MU-1001 to run factory springs and control arms? I got motor mount bracket are MU-AJE- 20
I believe if you can remove the oil pan then yes you can get to it. This video could help you get to that step. Cause the K member is blocking the Oil pan of course.
I’d be impressed if you did that, I think I’ve heard on forums the stock K will fit with long tubes but ITS A PAIN. honestly I’d look more into the forums and get some pros / cons.

Yes. Sorry for late response too. In my BBK shorty headers video you can see both sides detailed while the k member is removed.
Great video! Where did you get the harness bar to support the engine. Thanks for your help. My 98 GT has the long headers, and I am removing them and updating the system..Jim.
Sorry about the late reply Jim. Have had some personal issues, but I bought mine from Harbor freight for like $100 or less. Hope you get it situated.
@@Thatlowdsg Thanks for the reply! I haven't seen it in the store, but I'll ask them, or check online, Thanks again.........Jim.
Check online, in store was hit or miss for me as well. I threw out the box or else I’d send the part #.
Great vid, thanks for posting.
Thank you for tuning in! Hope the video helps.
can you explain the need to remove control arms? I'm going full tubular and manual steering rack so I was gonna try and drop it all as one unit
Technically you don’t need to remove the control arms if you’re going tubular k member + arms. But for now im using my stock arms so I took them off. You could drop it all as one unit!
Would this be the same for the 94-95 models cause my 94gt and 95 cobra need oil pan gaskets and I need to drop the k member
The only difference I can think would be the motor mounts, should use the same K member and design / process and since your doing the pans you won’t even need to fully drop them
8:31 Unlimited POWER
Is it possible to learn this power
No sir
Do I have to take apart my suspension to drop the k member
You could leave the control arms still attached but yeah you’ll have to loosen and drop some of the front suspension to get the k member down.
Is it necessary to unbolt the motor mounts?
If I remember it wouldn't budge without taking those out too
Good video
For you people that their car is not as clean as his is, cut your control arm bolts out. Lots of times they don't come out as easy as his did. Make sure you order the bolts as you just can't find them at any auto parts store. CJ Ponys and LMR have them. A ball joint stud tool and a tie rod stud tool will make removing them easier too. Oh get the spring back in is made a lot easier with a maximum motorsports front spring installation tool.
Thank you for some tips for others.
You had the engine on a hoist? While you were doing it?
Yes you need a brace or something supporting the engine when you do this job. Because the K member and motor mounts keep your motor in place / support the engine so if you replace your K member or remove it you need an engine hoist or some sort of cross brace like I used!
How long did it take u and how about the steering pressure hoses on the rack n pinion did u disconnect em
Think this took me half a day maybe less if I didn’t film. But no you don’t need to disconnect the pressure hoses just make sure the rack n pinon is supported though. I used buckets to hang it.
@@Thatlowdsg thank u
I’m trying to fix a header leak. Is it really required I unbolt the steering rack from the k member since it’s going right back in? Trying to leave as much stuff together as possible when I drop it
No, you could keep the steering rack bolted to the K member however you’ll need to disconnect it from the steering shaft. Also have to consider the lines going into the rack so you’d have to be careful not to damage those.
Matthew im in the same boat. About to do this to fix a pesky gasket leak. Any tips from when you did it?
You did a really good job on this video! Quick question. If im not replacing my K member but rather need to remove it for header bolt access do the lower control arms and springs need to be removed?
If you’re just removing the K for Header access youd only need to remove the spring. The control arms can stay connected! Thank you for the feedback as well. Glad the vid could help!
@@Thatlowdsg it would appear you clearly know your way around but in case you are like me looking for specific install or removal videos to help before digging into a project my channel has a few on my 97 Cobra. Thanks again.
I have to remove my k member to get to my headers I just got the engine support bar yesterday wish me luck
I’d wish you luck but I know you got this! If you run into anything just comment I’ll respond accordingly, thanks for watching.
Awesome video buddy. Def deserved my sub. Upr ftw lol
Thank you I really appreciate that! Hope you enjoy the future content I’ve got planned.
Are 94s the same I'm wanting to put the 4.6 out of a 99-04 with cross member in my 94 that was a v6?
Honestly can't give you a definitive answer. It may share the same crossmember as a fox body with the similar v6 motor. The 94-95 being the first years of that body style having different motors then the 4.6 I couldn't tell you exactly but hope this helps some.
What the name of the k-member?
With that k member can you still use the factory control arms with springs
ajesuspension.com/product/79-04-mustang-universal-engine-mount-k-member/ heres the link to check it out yourself, and yes it can still maintain the factory control arms and springs. I’m still running the factory control arms for now and they fit good. Springs should work just fine as well.
Question I got the kmembers will you need the springs perched MU-1001 to run factory springs and control arms? I got motor mount bracket are MU-AJE- 20
How is the ride quality with tubular k member??
Tbh rides alot better, feels quicker too!
I got to get to the rod bearings in my 04 v6 , would this method help me do this ?
I believe if you can remove the oil pan then yes you can get to it. This video could help you get to that step. Cause the K member is blocking the Oil pan of course.
Thatlowdsg UPDATE , I bought a engine support now I have no idea where to mount the chains because your engine looks way different from mine ,
I stuck mine through some bolts connecting to the block, Im not sure the layout of the V6
Will the stock one still go back on with new long tube ?
I’d be impressed if you did that, I think I’ve heard on forums the stock K will fit with long tubes but ITS A PAIN. honestly I’d look more into the forums and get some pros / cons.
GREAT VIDEO ,I FIND THIS CHANNEL AND I LOVED IT, I WILL LIKE TO ASK DOEST THE MUSTANG 1999 v6 3.8 have Secondary Air injection pump, I HAVE THE CODE P0412, AND BE LOOKING FOR THE PUMP BUT A DONT FINED IT in the front of the cars i take it to mechanics and he said he did not fined it, and another mechanic said he as to remove or engine where is them pump, thankyou for your help.
I’ll be honest I’m not sure the car has an air pump, I’ve not seen one on mine as I looked the code up most folks said check the 02 sensors, check if your exhaust manifold has any leaks or any vacuum / exhaust leaks.
Sorry to not answer fully as I’m not too familiar with the 3.8s as much. Cheers and welcome to the Channel!
Do you still have the stock strut mount. And camper caster plate ??? Lol
Im running BC coil overs now so no, but I still have my old parts.
@@Thatlowdsg wanna* sell em , I took a road trip and blew most of the front suspension need to go back to stock

is their a motor mount connected to the subframe if so did you have to remove it?
Ahh 10:02
My bad I only saw your first comment
@@Thatlowdsg bro i appreciate you this video helps so much
Hey I’m glad it could help, anything else I’d glad to try and help.
Grade A video
What do you need the harness bar for?
The harness bar supports the engine, as the K member supports the engine & front suspension (along with the motor mounts)
@@Thatlowdsg ah okay makes sense, I'd imagine it also puts less stress on the engine/trans connecting point
Yes exactly that too!
YOURE THE SHIT ....for a young dude..great job! doing this same thing now, but im not in the statws so i have to build an engine fixture first..ihave an engine fixture t its too small and is for foreign cars...let me know where u got your k member from.......i will also be boosting my 3.8 but will install H BEAM rods and custom forged pistons first...
Boop Boop Globetrotters just a young fella learning cars as I go! But thank you !! Sounds like a cool mustang build out the states which is super cool! But heres the link to the K member I bought, ajesuspension.com/product/79-04-mustang-universal-engine-mount-k-member/
Good luck with your build!!
Good job with the video work. And the mustang work. The best advice I could give a young mech. these days is to protect your lungs and your eyes and you will have a great life.
Yeah I wear goggles under most cars but this one’s clean so I don’t worry much but I appreciate it and thank you
What is holding the engine
Its called a engine hoist, you can find them online I bought a Pittsburgh one of Harbor freight but I couldn’t find the link to it anymore. Could also be called a top mount engine harness/ rig/ hoist. Hope this will be of use
If i need to only remove my passenger header,do i have to drop whole k member?
Sadly yes, cause the K member couldn’t be dropped on just one side. And the clearance with the stock K member is awful. Sorry for the late reply
@@Thatlowdsg ): darn,thanks for replying.
great video. you need a cordless ratchet
At this point I agree 😂 but thank you man I appreciate the comment
About how long did this take you?
I did this job in 4 hours or so, the editing took more than 4 hours 😂
