That Pilot Blue Black became one of my favorites. I was sent a small bottle along with a pen and I loved it almost instantly. I now own a larger bottle...but not as large as your 350 mL bottle. (That size does work well: I have that size filled with black ink at school.)
As I'm a fan of blue black inks I purchased the Pilot Blue Black in the 350ml bottle last month and I'm really enjoying it. I'm a southpaw so its quick drying tendency is attractive to me. As you pointed out, Chris, it is mostly blue which I find varies somewhat in depth depending on the quality of paper you are writing on. I love the older Parker pens and I have a few from my school days which I've recently brought back to life and I'm enjoying them again. Thank you for sharing your experience with this pen and ink.
Wow! I saw and used this pen in Pakistan when I was a boy, some 30 years ago. It was my father's pen. There was also a 'Hero 159' with an unhooded nib which was very similar. It may have been called something else in India. I remember that they felt very scratchy compared to my buttery smooth £14.00 parker but they weighed next to nothing.
Dear Chris, I am Bobby. May your Christmas be filled with special moment, warmth, peace and happiness, the joy of covered ones near, and wishing you all the joys of Christmas and a year of happiness.
Hi Chris, I was astonished by how productive you have been during the holidays! I really cope a lot with my daily routine and pen stuff in the holiday... Anyway, great to see you even have the time to review this little thing, really impressive by your comparison of it along side a 61. I simply can't afford a grey 61 every-time in a pen show.
I love the Parker 61 look of this pen, including the arrow. I have had nothing but issues in the past with actual P61 pens and their cool but finicky filling system. So I ordered a 3-pack of these 336s from a Singapore dealer on etsy after watching this video the other day. With shipping, it worked out to just under $8 per pen - instead of the $100+ that vintage 61s cost. I hope to have them in a few weeks.
The three item Hero Parker Pilot ink was the everyone pride those days ...at least 40_50 yrs ago..I'm wandering how did you know that... Surprisingly is still in production......Thanks again
This pen was 40 cents abuot 12 15 years ago. Worked as good as an expensive Montblanc and was able to withstand continuous writing as students did write quite a bit back then on paper.
I’ve had this pen for a year now. It’s my edc, both for casual strolls and for jotting down notes from lectures. Beautiful pen. Not the smoothest one, but it fits perfectly in my hand. The only thing unfortunate is that the finial at the end of the pen (body) unscrewed on me and I lost it.
Zackarie M. I mostly use aetometric filling fountain pens. But, from what I understand based on what Chris Rap said, it sounds as if that the aerometric converter can be replaced by a cartridge converter. Is that correct? I am used to using vintage fountain pens especially Chinese ones and I really like aerometric converters. But, I was wondering if that actually is a possibility to switch to a cartridge system. I'm not a big fan of cartridge converter fountain pens but, due to traveling it would be nice to convert maybe a cheap pen to a cartridge converter system for ease of cleaning. Thanks
The silicone bag is glued but it can be replaced with another bag but not with cartridges or converters of any kind . I have a big collection of classic type hood nib fontain pens about 60 models from Hero , Vens , Wing Sung , Golden Star , Rainbow , Youth , Jin Hao . P.S - I worked on every one of them to .
The company started in 1931, gained its current name in 1966. I used one in high school in 1985-6 with that distinctive arrowhead at the tip with the aerometric filler.
Chrisrap52, the 336 is one of the four "Star Trek" models by Hero; the best known - and first model is the 329 with torpedo shape, the others models, the 330, 331 and 336 are less popular and less prone to being forged. Anyway the 329 was a simplified and lower-cost pen and became an instant bestseller for Hero, and the three derivatives are similar in performance.
I have a Hero 336 too , together with Hero 330 with plastic body , Hero 330 with Golden aluminum body with Dragons and Pheonix engraved on, Hero 329 with a steel cap , Hero 329 with a golden cap and a Hero 340 with Golden aluminum body and all are Star Trek model types .
Thanks, Chris, for a great review. This real nice pen reminds me of my Argentinan made Parker 61, Aerometric fill. The filler guard on it has no wording at all, except for "Argentina ".
Cool Cat Yes sir. I do. It's a very nice writer. The cap is Lustraloy, and it is gray in color. Two metal inlaid dots are at the nib end of the shell. The point is fine, but is made of Octanium. It is an excellent writer. Thank you for your message.
Happy holidays, Chris! Does the Hero compare favorably with the highly rated Jin Hao 992 or Wing Sung 698? I get the feeling you weren't that impressed. Best regards,
You are correct, I find the 992, 698, 618 & 3008 to be better pens. I enjoy the design & everyday practicality of the 339. To me each pen has a reason for being. I try to find that.
That was a HUGE bottle of ink in the video. I take it you will have to transfer some of the ink to a smaller bottle to make filling easier. I can't see you running out of this colour for a long, long time. The pen was interesting too. I tend to struggle with this type of filling system and never seem to suck up more that a tiny amount of ink. Nevertheless, the pen wrote well and I liked the traditional design. Nice review, thanks Chris.
I am a student, and I bought this 336 at just 36 rupees(0.48 US $) at kolkata, India. It is cheaper than a water bottle 🤣. But aerometric filling system is useless. I cut the suck and using it as a eye dropper pen. It working superb.
You are very lucky to have this New Old Stock hero. Definitely worth the money. The new made is not nearly good as the NOS one. The golden days of fountain pen is gone.
I used this pen in 90's. I love this pen. All time my favourite.
I used this pen when I was kid. sweet pen
Brings back some very sweet memories of my first year in high school...it was 1989.. when I first saw this.

I think I had one of those. It wrote very nicely.

I used this pen when I was in school and it was for around 70 cents back then
WOW. Was a good buy then. Good buy now?
@@chrisrap52 Now it's around 2 USD in India. So I think it's still a good buy

I'll watch out for that. Glad you enjoy the pen. The nib can be smoothed & will write better.

No can not be replaced is a fixed filling system, trust me i have one to, in red .
Stefan Ionut Marius Thanks. I actually have repaired aerometric filling fountain pens since I collect vintage fountain pens.

The correct model number of the 329 with the inlaid is actually 329-2, the 329 is not torpedo shaped and its not getting the inlaid.
Thanks for all the info. This is my first of this series.
Oh my, I didn't anticipate that even as a semi-ST fan. Thanks Seele!
@@fountainpencollection I love the Hero 340!
I believe Hero 336 it is in production for about 40 years maybe even more .
My favourite pen. It is good for handwriting practice
I'm curious if you have any feedback about this ink. It seems fine, but the colour isn't all that exciting. The price is pretty great though.
It is basically a well behaved blue ink. The best attribute is the cost.
How to repair nib
Depends on why nib needs repair. These hooded nib are very reliable.
This pen is much better than many expensive ones.
Merry Christmas to everyone !
And to all a very best New Year.
Cost of pen please.
Varies, search you favorite place to buy Chinese pens.
The trouble is when the paper lint gets caught in the nib and smudges the whole trail.
A potential problem with many fine nibs.

Will you be attending the Philly pen show in January? Happy Holidays btw.
Plan to attend but no specifics as to when. Will update when I finalized plans.
I'm currently using this pen 👋 & hero 330
Can i use drawing ink on this pen...?
No, drawing ink not for fountain pens.
Then my hero pen is officially dead 😂😂
Sorry 😞

Yes, the bottle Can not be used, based on cap, for filling fountain pens. I poured ink into a smaller bottles to use for filling pens from.

Perfect. I had a warm feeling.
Llke Chinese pens ! Wish they came in B & BB
B & BB hooded nibs are rare in any model and any B or BB nib is very rare in the Chinese market. Thanks for watching.
