Received mine recently and was disappointed with how flimsy it felt. The covers of my old one were fairly stiff. The new ones have flexible covers and are soon going to look a bit tatty. Could we also just remind people that the trend of having a burgundy passport was never a directive but optional. The proof being the Croatian passport which has never been burgundy. We could have had this colour passport whenever we wanted without leaving the EU.
Well it's sunk below the passports of lots of European passports since Brexit, I'll take a more powerful burgundy passport over a less powerful blue passport any day, and we could have had a blue passport whilst in the EU anyway

Just received mine today applied online 3rd october sent old passports 4th October next day guaranteed delivery and signature. if you are renewing 2 passports say a married couple you can send them both to same passport office as you get 2 different offices when you apply, but can send both old passports to one office, saving you money. got my new passport 7th October. must be a quiet time for renewals. Well pleased with the service.

@@britannia55 No, a black light. A black light picks up "invisible ink" on stuff. You find invisible writing on all kinds of things. Things like envelopes on mail, labels on products, driver licenses, etc. You can order a black light on Amazon, as well as invisible ink. The drawback to invisible ink is that once it gets on your skin it's hard to wash off. The upside is you can't see it without the black light.

Just received mine after 7 weeks of delay by their courier TNT but that's another issue. I have to say I was quite disappointed with the new passport, the cover pages are so flimsy and thin, unlike the previous EU one. Definitely feels like a few corners were cut with this new version. If you are a frequent flyer this won't hold up for 10 years, so I would recommed a passport cover or wallet.

That is with a lower case “n” in “na” (meaning ‘of’ in Irish) and a lower case “a” in “agus” (meaning ‘and’ in Irish). No one would write “United Kingdom Of Great Britain And Northern Ireland”. It would look a little absurd. That’s equally true in Irish. It is also inconsistent with how the UK name is given in the other languages. The mistake surprises me.
Your 2nd point (lack of consistency with how it's written in other languages) is stronger than your 1st point (upper-casing of "of" and "and"), because the name here is written as a title/sign rather than being of a longer sentence. There are lots of signs or headlines etc that upper-case words such as "and" etc, even if that might seem grammatically questionable. Agree that the lack of consistency is pretty shocking, considering the heft and importance of a passport.

With biometric-enabled passports, the color in the visible image isn't as crucial anymore for the border guard to confirm it's really you in the picture. Hope that helps.

Anyone thinks that's blue is colour blind. Ordered mine [renewal] about a week ago through the Post Office. Couldn't do it online because don't have anyone to countersign. Old one still in perfect condition but expired too long ago sp needed a countersignatory. But, if it's not damaged or lost you can send it through post office without a referee. Cost £85 and £6 for next day delivery. They sent a text telling me when l should receive it.
Just got my new passport was worried about that white thin strip at back of my passport and that rusty colour on my passport number! But watching this it’s normal I guess!
The following certainly seems like a step backwards with the new British passport: 1. Time left on your old passport can no longer be added to your new passport, supposedly to comply with “international standards”. Previously one could add up to 9 months of remaining time from your old UK passport onto your new one. So much for “taking back control” when a plain and simple concept (one that’s quintessentially British for being fair) is removed as it doesn’t meet foreign norms. 2. One has to manually sign their passport when previously signatures were captured digitally and came printed on the identify page. 3. Previously the identity page was seamlessly part of the passport and the same thickness as any other page. Now it is a thicker plastic page stitched into the binding of the booklet with an ugly end sticking out towards the end of the booklet.
I used to do work on behalf of HM Passport Office. It is indeed to meet international standards, the UK was the last country of Europe still doing it and the Civil Aviation Authority told them not to add extra months on anymore. It was never related to the price people pay for their passport.

It's a security feature supposedly, but I would prefer they just kept a digital printed signature as well. As far as designs go of biometric passports, it's the Americans who really rule the roost. Every country's passport will be of the same dimensions, biometric, and as hard as possible to counterfeit or the US will not accept it.

@@dmney123 No handwritten signature is needed for the online application but with the paper form you need to sign section 9. When your passport arrives it does then need to be hand signed regardless of what way you applied. It is quicker and cheaper to apply online, the number of forms used is falling every year and not even all the Post Offices have them anymore.
With the Australian passport you get a plastic pouch to keep your passport clean when not using it, I'm surprised the British passport doesn't come with a pouch.

Horrified to learn that it was designed by a company headquartered in France and partly owned by the French Government. Moreover, it is manufactured in Poland. So much for British sovereignty and taking back control!
i have just looked at this as my passport runs out tomorrow. i will decide if i get another one depending on health. People who say the sticker appears later cannot have been looking at all the video because sticker can be seen when taken out of the envelope. Also i notice it was issued before the queen died, so if i get another one it would have His Majesty at the front.
The nostalgia for this colour is unfathomable. The burgundy passports look so much better. Why couldn't they just have removed the words European Union from the top and been done with it?

Hi, I have a quick question, after receiving my new/renewal passport, I signed it straightaway, which it said to do……however I’ve since heard that I need to log in somewhere on the gov.uk website and confirm this, personally I think this is rubbish and with not seeing any instructions to do so on any website or the booklet that comes with the passport, I’m thinking it’s confirmed as rubbish, have you come across this?
Mine came yesterday... after 15 years of nagging etc because my old one ran out and I had to rely on a card to travel by plane. And in my opinion, it's black (and also my first adult passport which is true because I was a teen when I last used my old one).
Should be signed above the line but.... don't think this should be a problem if you accidentally signed below, long as your signature is there and clear to see i wouldn't worry about it too much. By all means you may call the passport office for your peace of mind if you are concerned. Take care
Black just like the old passport.... if anyone applies for a passport just to get this black1 you report it lost... you will get a new black passport for 10 years, a follow up letter will arrive asking you If you find your lost passport return it ASAP, it will also state that if you lose the new 1... then for a replacement you will have to have an interview on the interview they will decide if they will give you a 6 months passport or 12 months, so say they say you are entitled to a 6 months passport, after 6 months you will have to apply again and pay full fee each time..... So people let your old passport expire before you get this new1... its not worth it in the long run as you will be paying double the amount for a 10 year passport By the way... congratulations on your New Black British Passport

Even though i was born in this country; very unfortunately….. I’m not even allowed to have a new passport. i have issues with, the passport photo. So, i find it incredibly bizarre… that we have all different Nationality’s in this country; the U.K. 🇬🇧 and they are all, allowed to have a British passport; but i cannot get hold of one. Thursday am 5th January 2022. U.K. Southampton.
So it's nothing like the old "iconic" passport, just the new one in a particularly non-descript colour. This was supposed to be literally the only benefit of Brexit. Not sure it was worth screwing up everything for this.

Most people think this.You don’t have to continue. You can renew anytime I’ve got 7 years left on mine am getting a blue one next week.You don’t have to wait till it expires you can do a RENEWAL anytime regardless of how much validity is remaining.
You can renew anytime you like, though it's not something I'd cough up 80 quid for just for the sake of it. The new blue passport is dreadfully made, unlike the burgundy ones

Get an Irish one instead. Freedom of movement to Europe and automatic right to abode in UK as well.

Horrified to learn that it was designed by a company headquartered in France and partly owned by the French Government. Moreover, it is manufactured in Poland. So much for British sovereignty and taking back control!
i have just looked at this as my passport runs out tomorrow. i will decide if i get another one depending on health. People who say the sticker appears later cannot have been looking at all the video because sticker can be seen when taken out of the envelope. Also i notice it was issued before the queen died, so if i get another one it would have His Majesty at the front.

The nostalgia for this colour is unfathomable. The burgundy passports look so much better. Why couldn't they just have removed the words European Union from the top and been done with it?

When I got my passport in between the EU removal and the interdiction of Blue version i don’t have Polycarbonate data page which my child one has.
It's BLACK and about time too.
So excited! I can't wait until I get mine. I have already sent off for it and just twiddling thumbs until it arrives through the post. ;)

@@tormclean9657loads of drawing doesn't make any sense, stamp pages are for stamps, not drawing. man look at picture and personal info of the first page of the pink burgundy one, it was paper. With can be torn up easily by kids, new one is of solid plastic.

Instead of screwing up that barcode you should have stuck it on the envelope ...and used that code should you ever need to replace it..

Did you apply for it online? Can you keep the old one as well? Can you apply for the new one before the old one expires?

Hi, I have a quick question, after receiving my new/renewal passport, I signed it straightaway, which it said to do……however I’ve since heard that I need to log in somewhere on the gov.uk website and confirm this, personally I think this is rubbish and with not seeing any instructions to do so on any website or the booklet that comes with the passport, I’m thinking it’s confirmed as rubbish, have you come across this?
Under bright sunlight, it shows dark blue. Normal light is look like black colour.

Mine came yesterday... after 15 years of nagging etc because my old one ran out and I had to rely on a card to travel by plane.
And in my opinion, it's black (and also my first adult passport which is true because I was a teen when I last used my old one).
Should be signed above the line but.... don't think this should be a problem if you accidentally signed below, long as your signature is there and clear to see i wouldn't worry about it too much. By all means you may call the passport office for your peace of mind if you are concerned. Take care

Black just like the old passport.... if anyone applies for a passport just to get this black1 you report it lost... you will get a new black passport for 10 years, a follow up letter will arrive asking you If you find your lost passport return it ASAP, it will also state that if you lose the new 1... then for a replacement you will have to have an interview on the interview they will decide if they will give you a 6 months passport or 12 months, so say they say you are entitled to a 6 months passport, after 6 months you will have to apply again and pay full fee each time.....
So people let your old passport expire before you get this new1... its not worth it in the long run as you will be paying double the amount for a 10 year passport

Even though i was born in this country; very unfortunately….. I’m not even allowed to have a new passport.
i have issues with, the passport photo. So, i find it incredibly bizarre… that we have all different Nationality’s in this country; the U.K. 🇬🇧 and they are all, allowed to have a British passport; but i cannot get hold of one.

So it's nothing like the old "iconic" passport, just the new one in a particularly non-descript colour. This was supposed to be literally the only benefit of Brexit. Not sure it was worth screwing up everything for this.

Navy blue. I still have 3 years left on my passport so have to continue with the burgundy until I renew. Looking forward to having a blue one though.
Most people think this.You don’t have to continue. You can renew anytime I’ve got 7 years left on mine am getting a blue one next week.You don’t have to wait till it expires you can do a RENEWAL anytime regardless of how much validity is remaining.

You can renew anytime you like, though it's not something I'd cough up 80 quid for just for the sake of it. The new blue passport is dreadfully made, unlike the burgundy ones

It's valid until expiry date, there's no need to renew it until then 👍
