2020 has been the ugliest year I've seen so far. I say that because, this speech, I think, is what everyone needs to hear right now. Please share this as much as you can.
I genuinely think this speech is just as, if not, more important to hear than GW’s. The GW speech is absolutely powerful but in a more nihilistic way. Snake refutes GW’s claims about the digital age by saying we have the power of this current era to leave behind our mark and make sure information and human history are preserved, warts and all. Man, what a way to end a game. I love MGS2.
Funny how the snake speech videos have much less views then the GW ones, though I think the fact that snake's speech is both smaller in view count and length. Yet still resonates just as much with those who listen, makes it all the more powerful.
the best part is that both speeches exist to counter one another. You can't have Snake's humanistic outlook without having experienced the bleak possibilities for humanity that GW embodies. Snake doesn't deny GW's power, he recognizes it as the threat it is, and chooses to fight back with his own sense of humanity.
We shouldn't destroy a statue that may have tried and glorify a terrible past. We should instead move it to a place. A place which robs it of that glory. A place that mocks the people and ideals it was meant to embellish. A place like a museum with the explicit of purpose of showing a past that should never be repeated ever again.
Seeing this at age 9 or 10, I never understood Snake’s speech. Seeing it again at 27, this scene made me tear up. Thank you Kojima, David Hayter and all involved.
Well as Snake said, we can pass on lessons on what we have felt and why. Being moved by a video game is no different than being moved by a movie or song. The fact it resonated with you is what's most important. Or at least that is how I see it. Never stop learning and teaching.

It's so simple and to the point. Love it.
What i love about this is how much it juxtaposes the Speech between the AI and Raiden. Regardless of the implications of the the digital age and flaws of humanity. Snake comforts raiden and that no matter what happens nothing can beat the human heart. Almost like Raiden finally was given the white pill he so desperately needed after a lifetime of heartache.
the real end to the metal gear solid series.
Yes it is bro mgs4 does not exist
GreyFox405 Funny thing is Kojima decided that by the time MGS2 came out until fans and Konami demanded him to do more.
antman mgs4 had that badass ending with Big boss tho
GreyFox405 lol NO.
OCELOT (Liquid Ocelot) escapes and Snake sets out to char him. The ensuing was a cliffhanger..MGS4 continues the story and fixed that. Also MGS2 talksn about Snake cursed by his accelerated aging (hinted by Liquid) - we see that in MGS4.
@@SlayerSeraph Remember MGS2 is just a video games (with serious massage), Kojima didn't want us to think seriously about the plot, but want us to move on the series and be better, be yourself not to be Snake or Big Boss, People seems to happy with the title of Big Boss but I am not.
Big Boss / Kojima : "From here on out, You're Big Boss"
Me : "No I'll pick my own name and my own life, I'll find something worth passing on" (Sorry for my awful English)
Exactly why people advocating to not teach kids about racism and slavery and tough topics are ultimately going to prevent us from building our future.
Then Snake joined Smash bros to fight a ton of video game characters.
It's been almost twenty years since my first run through MGS 2 and that speech has stuck with me through so much.
This feels very relevant today. Our world is in an existential uncertainty. I hope it gets better and heals itself.
How I do very much miss when games could make me feel anything at all.
This game came out 19 years ago but I'm still watching it
kinda crazy how this game took place a mere 2 month after 9/11
As a man who isn't sure about having kids, it gives me comfort to know that there are other ways to leave your mark on the world. Looking back on it now, Snake's words made more of an impact on me than I thought.
I feel the same way too. I don’t want to have kids, but there’s so much more to life than just that. There are ways to leave your mark on the world other than passing on your genes. That’s what I *live* for.
This video... this speech is so relevant to the USA right now..
If I worked in a charity shop and someone came in to donate some jeans, I would say, "life isn't just about passing on your jeans....." then give them this whole speech.
Just fnished this game again so touching! Love this speech & just shows that MGS isnt just a game its about so many other things
DAVID HAYTER WILL FOREVER BE SOLID SNAKE
I still hold this message near and dear to my heart.
Here in 2020.. Because this is the realist thing anyone has ever said
Honestly hits you right in the heart every time I hear this speech!
Just to answer the people who want to know the name of the piano piece that plays during this piece, it's called "Freedom To Decide" it plays during the second half of the song.
One of the most powerful and inspiring speech that I've ever heard
This speech made me cry as a kid. It's motivated me to be the best person I can be for the future to be 100% honest.
@King Greed oh yeah, the piano is where I almost always cry.
Just used this video, with citation, on a research paper. Thank you 'Epic Videogame Playthroughs'!
Snake: Building the future and keeping the past alive are one and the same
5 years later also Snake: WAR HAS CHANGED
me after playing mgs3, mgs4, peace walker, ground zeroes, phantom pain and death stranding and coming back to this speech:
- "ooohhh....now I get it."
I used this speech to close my final for my English 2 course. It had to deal with analyzing the work of James Baldwin’s The Fire Next Time. This speech got me an A+
there will never be an amazing speech to a video game ending like this ever again with footage of new york in the early 2000s
Im so glad someone finally uploaded this without the credits. The strongest message in all of mgs.
To think games that hit this hard were on the PS2, just goes to show graphics and hardware ain't everything, Hideo is a very talented man, I'm just still unsure if I should ever try death stranding.
who's watching this masterpiece in 2024?
Esto está más allá del tiempo.
Recently played MGS2 and finished it. And man this speech really hit, just a lot to unpack with a game made in 2001 and it predicted so many problems we have today.
But Snake isn’t wrong with what he says. I guess that’s why it hit.
0:02 it's also about passing on your memes
This game is a masterpiece in so many ways.
Genes and memes
Kojima and solid snake
funny how after saying all this inspirational heart felt stuff in a conclusive way he goes on living and aging rapidly ultimately to have existential crisis at the end of metal gear 4 to lead to the same exact revelation.
right in the fucking feels
ah so nostalgic this game...I remember when i first my got ps2 and this was the first game i played, this game was way ahead of its time.
Hopemaxxing
People who is listening to this speech before the 2024 new year
⬇️
The first speech I never fell asleep and the only speech that made me keep going
"Keeping the past alive"
Tell that to youtube removing Hitler speeches.
You have whole web
@@noctsickversusTOBETOLD that isn't the point. Censorship is the problem.
You have whole web
@@seva7500 I know but I'm just pointing out the censorship.
I mean he even says that we should preserve our ugly history so that the next generation can learn from their mistakes 😂🤣
I love how hopeful this all feels.....then MGS4 hits you and says we're all being manipulated by "the magic of the digital age" in a way that seems to suck the very soul out of us.
I recommend that you read the articles on the site "Meta Gear", they explain a lot of the allegories and the simbology of the game.
Used to be critical bout this. But I'm playing it now after completing it and the it brings back good times. A very complex & interesting story + gameplay. I've now rated this as one my favs. The relationship between Rose & Raiden kept going.
1:19 would have made an awesome limited edition game cover.
I want to walk around New York just listening to this and Can't Say Goodbye To Yesterday
I salute, you Solid Snake. I would even dream about becoming a Successor to you
If that's what you want... just don't fight a war that you don't have to fight, the only war worth fighting is life, because it is the only war in which you will be free to be who you are and fight for what you believe.
