the Tom announcement came with an announcement of a massive year-long world tour, a new single, and a new album. That doesn't all happen overnight. This has been in the works for a while, and by extension, Matt has probably known about it for a while as well. Do I think they should say SOMETHING, even just as a word of thanks? Yeah. But I doubt this is some big blindside like others seems to believe.

People didn't like neighborhoods almost solely because of Tom, California took 5 years to release almost solely because of Tom. I don't think its fair to punish or criticize Mark and Travis for not changing the band name because Tom is a flaky asshole that doesn't respect his band mates or the fans of the band that's made him the money to allow him to do all the weird shit he does. Mark and Travis bust their asses for this band despite the fact that Travis almost died and Mark no longer lives in the United States. Tom may be an original member but its clear to me that Mark and Travis care more about this band than tom has in years. Maybe in the future if Tom straightens his act up and stops acting like he's been abducted by aliens or some shit he may eventually get back in the band but for now i think Skiba is as good a fit as any. He has the right voice for this band and is a solid musician.

You know Bored To Death and Cynical is on the setlist for the 23-24 World Tour, and I think Tom did a great job on them. I thought it might be weird for him. But he nailed it in Nashville on Sunday. I'm glad it's the Mark Tom and Travis show again but props to Skiba for not letting THE group of my adolescence die without Tom.

So when Blink released Neighborhoods, everyone hated on it and said Tom was changing the feel of the band to match his more ethereal Angels and Airwaves stuff. Now California comes out and feels like vintage Blink, and those same people hate on it and say the band needs Tom back. Can't please anyone ever. For the record, I still think Enema of the State is the best classic album Blink has put out, and the self titled one is the best combination of old and new styles. But I've loved everything they've put out, for different reasons. They've evolved as musicians, which is a necessary thing to do, especially when you've been around as long as they have. California feels like a return to their roots at a time when they felt called to do it. I loved +44 and I loved Boxcar Racer. Didn't care for Angels and Airwaves, but that's just me. Also, Travis Barker is still a fucking beast. He was the reason I picked up my first pair of drumsticks over 15 years ago, and he's still inspiring me to be a better and more creative drummer to this day. What a legend.

I've been open minded about Matt joining the band and I've been a long fan of Alkaline Trio.I was so excited when he came in.However I've been feeling a bit gloomy lately maybe I guess its just my age catching up to me, anyway I was listening to some old blink songs and Stay Together for the kids kicked in.The reality is...the void that Tom left in the band is just too huge to occupy even for Matt whose really talented and deserving of the spot,it sucks but the kids miss ya Tom, but thank you for trying to stay together for the kids even if it just lasted for 1 record.

They have a way of making it sentimental for us in relation to the feelings we had in high school and how we can relate to the lyrics now that we've grown up more and realize life does go by so damn fast! Plus the fact that social media was "to take the entire social experience of college and put it online". So the people who were in that age range when social media became a thing were 90s kids. Not saying 90s kids are better in any way, but just that because of all that, 90s kids are now the primary populous of the internet, making the popularity of "90s kid culture" completely understandable.

People didn't like neighborhoods almost solely because of Tom, California took 5 years to release almost solely because of Tom. I don't think its fair to punish or criticize Mark and Travis for not changing the band name because Tom is a flaky asshole that doesn't respect his band mates or the fans of the band that's made him the money to allow him to do all the weird shit he does. Mark and Travis bust their asses for this band despite the fact that Travis almost died and Mark no longer lives in the United States. Tom may be an original member but its clear to me that Mark and Travis care more about this band than tom has in years. Maybe in the future if Tom straightens his act up and stops acting like he's been abducted by aliens or some shit he may eventually get back in the band but for now i think Skiba is as good a fit as any. He has the right voice for this band and is a solid musician.

You know Bored To Death and Cynical is on the setlist for the 23-24 World Tour, and I think Tom did a great job on them. I thought it might be weird for him. But he nailed it in Nashville on Sunday. So when Blink released Neighborhoods, everyone hated on it and said Tom was changing the feel of the band to match his more ethereal Angels and Airwaves stuff. Now California comes out and feels like vintage Blink, and those same people hate on it and say the band needs Tom back.

For the record, I still think Enema of the State is the best classic album Blink has put out, and the self titled one is the best combination of old and new styles. But I've loved everything they've put out, for different reasons. They've evolved as musicians, which is a necessary thing to do, especially when you've been around as long as they have. California feels like a return to their roots at a time when they felt called to do it.
I loved +44 and I loved Boxcar Racer. Didn't care for Angels and Airwaves, but that's just me. Also, Travis Barker is still a fucking beast. He was the reason I picked up my first pair of drumsticks over 15 years ago, and he's still inspiring me to be a better and more creative drummer to this day. What a legend.

They wanted Tom out because at the end of his career he was shitty as fuck. But he did in fact make the band who it is. Matt is great, but the old Tom is irreplaceable. Especially in a song like stay together for the kids and reckless abandon.

I've been open minded about Matt joining the band and I've been a long fan of Alkaline Trio.I was so excited when he came in.However I've been feeling a bit gloomy lately maybe I guess its just my age catching up to me, anyway I was listening to some old blink songs and Stay Together for the kids kicked in.The reality is...the void that Tom left in the band is just too huge to occupy even for Matt whose really talented and deserving of the spot,it sucks but the kids miss ya Tom, but thank you for trying to stay together for the kids even if it just lasted for 1 record.

I feel ya, I'm 33 and have listened to Blink since I was 14. They have a way of making it sentimental for us in relation to the feelings we had in high school and how we can relate to the lyrics now that we've grown up more and realize life does go by so damn fast! And of course the young kids love it it basically saying live your life which every teenager wants to hear that. This music video is perfect. "Life is too short to last long" So TRUE!!!
