- Bodie, the police dog, was shot while trying to apprehend a suspect in Land Park, Sacramento, Friday, May 18, 2012. He was recovering at VCA Veterinary Referral Center in Rancho Cordova, CA. Rest in peace Bodie! Bodie was an amazing K9, and his handler, Officer VanDusen is an AMAZING human. I work in a convalescent hospital, and we had a patient who was absolutely obsessed with Bodie and his recovery. I sent an email to the Sac K9 association, and Officer VanDusen actually brought Bodie to my hospital, and they did a whole presentation for all of our residents. They even brought Franny (the patient) a stuffed "Bodie" for her room. We ended up in the paper and everything. It was an AMAZING experience for our staff and patients, and most IMPORTANTLY, for my girl Franny. If I believed in an afterlife, I'd hope Franny and Bodie were hanging out together right now... she passed on also, a couple years after the visit. It made her SO HAPPY though..... it was amazing.

"Bodie became sick on Friday and was unable to stand or walk. Veterinarians determined that he possibly had a bacterial infection, but additional symptoms led to the discovery of a tumor on the left side of his face, along with white blood cell and platelet count complications, the department said.
"Bodie died peacefully surrounded by his family, friends and the doctors and staff who saved his life over 4 years ago," Sacramento police wrote. "As always, K9 Bodie had his favorite Kong toy by his side."
My heart was broken, it's so sad. Bodie was a sweet, sweet boy, and you could tell he loved his job, and loved Officer VanDusen. VanDusen very obviously adored Bodie too. They gave us all an amazing gift by coming to see us after what happened to them, and I know my patient was over the moon. It was even more great to watch because she wasn't quite all there mentally at that point, but she ALWAYS made a point to ask me what I'd heard about Bodie, and never forgot who he was. They both were amazing, I still appreciate everything they did ❤❤❤ I'll remember it forever.

Now that the K9 is home recuperating take him to McDonald's treat him to a Double Quarter Pounder combo meal with a extra large french fry and also give him an apple pie for dessert he deserves it all
