Police Dog: Training your best friend

- There's a special relationship between an MTA canine police officer and the dog. The dog is more than a tool, more than a partner. He becomes your best friend. And although it might not be easy training your best friend, MTA Police Canine handler Officer Alison Schmitt, originally from Malverne and now Holtsville, proved more than up to the task. Accepting the job of MTA canine police officer changed her life, her family's life and life for the family of the late NYPD Det. Steven McDonald - longtime friends and neighbors of the Schmitts.
K9 - Fearless, hardworking....Loyal as hell .... So much respect 🙌
Thank you for this, I’m so proud of my dog and myself, my dog did this following theses instructions, again thank you... i will start doing the clean your paws next! Warm greetings. Here is the official link: tinyurl.com/DogTraining588
Try loyal, dangerous as hell, and corrupt because the K-9 handlers have signs to force hits. These dogs need to be banned from the force. If one bites you, you WILL be crippled for the rest of your life, and it is VERY unlikely that the city or county pays for ANY of that, because K-9 handlers don't wear body cams to avoid showing the public any of the gory shit that is a german shepard eating a human's leg on command, or hitting on a vehicle due to a human's command.
@@FinalStooge you're not above anybody, and no your fake anecdotal friends dont meant shit. Shut the fuck up, stop lashing out at people on the internet. You're not edgy and nobody values your opinion because if you really did have 3 k9 friends you would know that their purpose is not to satisfy power hungry people. Its simply just to do things they normally wouldnt be able to or find things they may not have found otherwise.
Heartwarming.
@@FinalStooge From your comments, I'll go out on a limb here & say you're probably one of those SJWs who seriously thinks that abolishing the police is a great idea. Am pretty sure you also have never personally encountered violent or other serious crime...from what I've seen, only privileged liberals & ghetto trash blame the police for the social problems we have in our nation.
Just a word of advice: say the command once and wait for the dog to do the behavior that you want. Saying the command once teaches the dog to listen to the handler the first time and respond quicker! I hope that helps and keep up the great work!
Tone make the different too . I noticed the dog lead her instead ......
Thanks! That helps a lot. I usually have to tell my dog twice or three times. Occasionally he’ll respond on the first time, but that’s when he wants to. How long should I give him before giving the command again?
@@PassiveDissimulation My Malinois is sometimes "chooosy" about commands (he let's me know he heard me... Behavioral cues). I do not repeat the command. I learned to stay still, watch him deciding (lol!) And apply a "Correction" if he hesitates.
Yes, however if you wait and wait and the dog does not follow through you are allowing unacceptable behavior. I say it once wait about 4 -7 seconds then give a correction and ask again. I use a prong and it seems to do the trick (I am careful with it).
@@basilisksboy6316 I agree!
I had German Shepherds growing up, one was a MASSIVE black one who looked very intimidating, but he was a giant teddy bear. I was so small (around 2-4 years old) and he was so big when I had him that I could ride him (I never did though). He was the biggest sweet heart but didn't really understand his own strength. He knocked me over wagging his tail a couple times, but he always came over and made sure I was ok. I only ever saw him get aggressive once. I was about 4 years old and was in my back yard (lived in the country) and was playing with my dog. He started growling REALLY aggressively, and neither my mom nor myself knew why at first. We both thought he was going to attack me because he pushed me HARD and lunged past me, but we heard a LOUD squeal and it turned out there was a very territorial animal (I think it was a raccoon or opossum I can't remember which) behind me who was about to attack, my dog saw it and got it first, didn't kill it, but scared it enough to where it didn't come back. I definitely want more German Shepherds when I have my own place, but I also want to train them to do cool (and practical) things.
Olivia Rogerson same
I dont care tho
Thats cool
As long as you are willing to put the time and money into them...they are amazing! I have a really large Solid black Shepherd now. He's my second. The first one so trained to be a USAR dog. It doesn't matter if you just want to train it for your home, job or volunteer they are great at all of them! Just be careful WHO trains your dog. Only use positive methods or you can ruin yiur dog! ( not yelling at you but stressing my point) I have had it happen to me.
Keeping a dog mentally stimulated is important. If we don't pay enough attention to our dogs' minds, they often become bored or start misbehaving, and their mental health can quickly deteriorate, follow this link: bit.ly/2KMFrr9
Proud of her, congratulations on the engagement. Keep up the good work you too.

Best dog in the world! Had mine for 9yrs,11 months and 30 days. He died from bone cancer. Such a good dog. Rip Buddy. Daddy,Brittny and I miss you so much.
I couldn’t live a happy life without a dog in it! I rescued my pets, and when one beloved friend passed I rescued another…at age 76 I will continue to adopt, and love every friend that comes my way…the hard part is we will always outlive them, and goodbyes are heartbreaking!
i have a retired police dog at home (my father is an officer) and i’ve never seen such a well behaved dog before.
A beautiful woman and a handsome dog. So grateful to both for working on behalf of all of us.
The bond between dog and human is way beyond words. I even believe in having stray/rescue dogs and cats in prisons where it is possible because of the ability to teach these inmates how it feels to be loved and to love another. Most times they really have not had that in their lives
Nancy Deis very true, I have a dog from the streets in Greece and I think sometimes rescues build stronger bonds because you’ve worked though the hard times for something better. You often gain more trust in the long run from a nervous dog than a naïve one
I agree. My best friend has a dog from spain. She Was 7 when she got her (the dog) and afraid of everyone and everything. The dog froze when someone came into the room, didn't want to be touched, tried to flee from every sound outside. Now, two years later, she still isn't "fixed", she might never be a normal dog, but the difference is extreme. She loves most people (still a bit suspicious of men), can walk outside without being incedibly stressed, loves car rides. We are are even happy when she barks (which she does rarely still) because she basically didn't make a Sound for a year out of fear of being punished by humans. She must have had a traumatic, horrible life but she slowly learned trusting people again. My friend also had a hard life and now they work together on having a better life. People and dogs can give each other so much I think it's beautiful.
@@abisangster2572 they see after a bit that you are trust worthy no matter what. Nothing is perfect and sometimes things happen but i choose to believe we need each other
I got ben out of a dog pound $3 I paid for him and he was a true blue recue timber wolf dogs and cat do return a lot of love back to us just for giving them a home but theirs more they give their life for you. and all they ask for love and food and it a friend for life
@@fraux573 I love K9 for their devotion and not their choice to serve but they loyal to the end ! But Agree with Frau X i have all my dogs from shelters or rescue or just streets and no matter for me age or look i love them same like they LOVE US UNCONDITIONALLY!IN good hands and patience LOVING home they will overcome their THEIR HORRIBLE past! I love all of them pure breed or not! They love us UNCONDITIONALLY! Blessings Frau X for rescue your dog from Spain ! I am connected with many rescues from many places and...there is HORRIBLE ABUSE ON ANIMALS BEYOND TRUE HUMAN MINDS! In Spain horror and many other countries! Lack of LAW ENFORCEMENT or any by law which will PROTECT ANIMALS and people who don't care if not worse! I always think how you treat HELPLESS ANIMALS is tell me WHO YOU ARE! BLESSINGS FOREVER FRAU X AND YOUR RESCUE BABY! WHEN I SEE ALL THE PSYCHOPATHS WHO HURT ANIMALS I START HATE THIS MONSTERS (PEOPLE ???) Also many K9 or military dogs SACRIFICE and then if nobody claim them after they retire...they need RESCUERS! So HEARTBREAKING!
The young lady officer has such a beautiful attitude and infectious smile. It's obvious she loves her dog as much as he loves her. Great work.....thank you for your service and for sharing.
Having been involved in this industry for 30+years we can tell you it is a lot of hard work to train these dogs. Good luck. 🇬🇧
cerberusk9uk I’m a fast learner and it’s easy for me to pick up on the smallest things. I know it’s gonna be hard work to no end, but it will all be worth it to be able to see myself succeed and be able to help others out. I just want to keep others safe and protected against all costs. I’m prepared to possible die while doing my job.
Thanks.
i was so tired of our lilly biting us all the time and then i used a few tips i learned from the MyDogTraining7.blogspot.com -- videos. it was like night and day; worked so well
I have 1 question all the Police dog has to be Males? Or there are females aswell ?
@@Jaypatel-up4jg females as well, but more males as they generally are bigger and more up for it.
Officer Allison & Officer Mac...THANK YOU for KEEPING US ALL SAFE!!! GOD BLESS!!
Its wonderful to have a dog but I'm grateful for ALL our police forces on every level that protect all of us. THANK YOU!
i- i never expected that im gon watch a proposal 😭
Hey there. So this is so this is a common misconception popularized by traditional dog trainers that rely on tools to make life unpleasant when their dog does not perform as desired. Here's a video that will explain the dominance myth: ==> BestDogTrainingProgram.blogspot.com
@@carittamelisenda8191 not everything they do is bad. Prongs are okay if used the right way and they actually help build the bond handler to dog. Retractable leads are not okay for training.
When you are with your partner 24/7 it’s a whole different world! 🐺🇺🇸
Police dogs are so freakin special. They are all special. Period. I love the excitement and dedication they have to just be your friend.
The most intelligent dog of them all. I would teach my Laica something and by the second time she had fully understood. So so affectionate I miss her terribly 😭😭
Sorry for your loss ❤
i love the connection between these two, constantly learning each other, it is so beautiful
Being a service dog handler it makes me so proud and very interested to see other types of working dogs
That's the sweetest proposal. I adore them and their dog family
Malinois and German Shepherds are on my top lists for Police/Military K-9’s! Both dogs are beautiful and loyal as heck.
I agree. Shoot I might even get one just for my home dog.
Matt's Horsemanship dont get a malinois if youre not ready with their high high energy level they need like 8 miles and more to calm them down
@@Autumn-kz7vc dont forget that it is also important that you have owned a dog before and actually trained it
I have nothing but deep love & respect for these dogs & their handles. Thank u all for ur service. ❤🐶⭐😘
Great video!! GSs are on a different league no comparison to other breeds Ive had. I can sleep knowing she is always ready when Im not...the bond is just very hard to describe with just words. If you've had a GS you know what Im talking about! She is barely 8 months and already saved me twice! Gorgeous smart funny "scary" all in a perfect mix.
I've had dogs all my life (I'm old now) and little experience around the dogs at my local police station, but have watched from a distance. These dogs are amazing, as are their handlers. My father was military career, we lived abroad now and then, so I grew up more around sentry dogs (military dogs). It's truly amazing what they do. Thank you for this video.
I’m severely allergic to dogs yet my dog is lying on the bed next to me. I take meds and often I build up a tolerance to them but a life without animals isn’t a life I’m prepared to live, so I just deal with it.
Hey man I was to and I had to get rid of my dog named rocky and he died the day after he left us that shows they will last as long as they can with you.😣God bless 🙏🏻
Mama Murphy oh I’m so sorry dude that’s awful but it’s nice that you said goodbye before he left
In time, you'll get past the allergies me friend.
it will take 3 years to build up full tolerance of an allergie
Sucks for you
look at the dog tail, its allways up, the dog is verry confident, has a greate energy and is calm, a wel trained dog ! succes in your police career.
Aww I love German Shepherds. By far the best dog I ever had. I miss him soooooo much. He wasn’t full blood. He was mixed with Chow. But man he was the smartest dog ever. He was so awesome!
Hi darling
OMGOODNESS THAT PROPOSAL WAS JUST PERFECT! AWESOME, FOR THEIR PROFESSION AND JUST THOUGHT OUT WELL WITH THEIR PET THERE FOR THE BEAUTIFUL MOMENT :-) CONGRATS YOU 2. GORGEOUS COUPLE :-) I PRAY IT WORKS OUT FOR YOU BOTH. PUSH THROUGH THE MOST DIFFICULT TIMES, GIVE EACH OTHER SPACE WHEN NEEDED, TRY NOT TO TAKE IT OUT ON ONE ANOTHER AFTER A STRESSFUL OR TRAUMATIZING DAY AT WORK. AND YOU ALL WILL MAKE IT, COMMUNICATION IS KEY. IT'S CLICHE, YET TRUE. (EDIT) P.S. I JUST ADOPTED A GERMAN SHEPHERD ON JUNE 1ST, 2019, HE IS 3 MONTHS OLD AND AMAZINGLY SMART ALREADY.
Your puppy is your best friend I have a German shepherd and she's my best friend love you guys be safe out there
I love that Police K-9's are getting the recognition they deserve. My Father was a K-9 officer and trainer in the US Army. His dog was as loyal as can be. I wish this officer and her K-9 partner the all of the best! I have a huge Solid Black imported German Shepherd from East German and Czech bloodlines. And he's the best! Stay Safe and God Bless you!🙏🇺🇸
BEAUTIFUL officers!!! 👏👏👏👏👏
Please stay safe out there!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Awesome dogs!! I've had 5 German Shepherd's and will always have them!
This wonderful officer is so inspiring. She’s doing great work. I’m so proud of her.
No better love than the love from a German Shepherd that you raise.
You are such motivation to me. I want to be a NYPD K9 officer when I am older.
omg I for real started crying when he proposed lol that was so sweet and spontaneous! love it.
Congrats from retired Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Rocamontes Patrol District 2. I wish you two the best life has to give.
Man this video has made me emotional 🥹🤍
Thank you all for your service... Congratulations officer
Cops and pooches are made for each other. It’s an almost perfect partnership if done right. Thank you for this video. Keep educating low info people that cops are our best friends in good and bad times and their pooches are their lifelines sometimes.
I respect you, your integrity. Thank you
Beatiful beatiful animals. Great job training them, they are amazing.
Props to the officer! Working at night and keeping the city safe! We have 6 months old GSD.
You train them, you play with them, they love you back! very loyal to you and your family!
If I was a cop, I’d rather have a dog for a partner than a human 🤷🏾♀️😂. Way more reliable.
I just finished teaching my dog to radio for backup. His command word is.....
DOGS CANT RADIO 🤣
👌
You're an idiot.
If you do the police force you can handle the dogs so you take them out to crimes. After 7 years you get to keep them because you can’t put them down because there is no point. So I would try it out it sounds fun.
Akia W you’re stupid
This has got me soo excited to get my shepherd, what beautiful dogs and congratulations on the engagement
This was so beautifully shot and edited ❤️
Hi love
V v CT
They invest so much time and money and love. Their lives both personal and professional revolve around their dogs.
I would love to see each and every single dog have a bullet proof vest.
Really enjoyed seeing how police dogs are trained. I love high drive dogs and training them is such a joy. Excitement, motivation via drive and reward seems to be the ultimate combination.
You guys killed me with the unawares proposal....ohh my.....I cried and cried....so unexpected!! I wish you both the very best in what life has to offer in work and home! Man alive....sniff snifff....sniffed!!
K9's and service dogs are some of the best, smartest dogs you'll ever meet. Love these guys.
The German Shepherd is just an awesome superb dog. No better breed.
For certain purposes, all working breeds have their strengths.
My GSD is almost 12 weeks! She knows sit, stay(not 100%), come, and down!! Gonna train her to find me stuff using the towel method. Great tips.
Thank you for this video. I learned alot. The police and either search dogs or k-9 deserve all the respect...100%!!
I just LOVE these dogs, they give so much!
Thank you for the risk you take every day. Thank you, for your sacrifice to make this world a safer and better place. Pray safety, and peace to you and your family.
My 1st dog was a shepherd border collie mix, greatest dog ever, she was brilliant but very shy. Now my full blooded shepherd is a working line shepherd and he taught himself to sniff out guns and explosives. He once dug around an unexploded ordnance on the beach and wouldn't let the local cop near it. They whine a LOT but are amazing dogs!
After watching this im crying...I started a rescue with the intent to name dogs/cats/whatever needs rescuing, after fallen heros. The dream fell apart as we can't afford land to do it but to know someone is out there honoring families like this is incredible!!!!
Unconditional love and loyalty .GSD
I worked k9 security in the states. Dogs are more than your best friends. They are angels guards and the only real loyal member of your family.
Great video. Much respect for what a K9 Officer, and their dogs are capable of.
Absolutely beautiful...very inspirational video...most people with a gsd know just how hard the training is but also how rewarding that can be too...💖
My German shepherd means the world to me. My children are honestly jealous of him sometimes. Lol
I'm proud of our police dogs who are doing their part until the end, looking for their fellow police officers even in hot weather. You'll need water. Police dogs, you're having a hard time in the hot weather. Always be healthy and don't get hurt.
We just got a Sable GSD boy! He’s our baby! Bear is the name!
Dogs loyalty is unmatched on the planet
You'll never know TRUE LOYALTY till you've owned a shepherd .
That could not be more true🤍
Young people like this officer gives me hope for our nation.
"i need more work than the dog does" SO TRUE! I have a gsd/husky and he's so smart... training sessions are 90% me working on my leash skills.
9:11 that's his first time on an escalator? He handled that extremely well, i'm 100% impressed.
Lovely dog such a strong bond 😍🐶
The best, cutest, saddest and inspiring story ever.
My ex was a truck driver and took his dog with him to work too- they were SO close- he is still heart broken after his passing last year, that was his best friend
we love the doggies...AND their cops!!!! thank you both for serving!
Love this vid. K-9 dogs, hero’s, policemen, marriage proposals, honoring the fallen. Wow, spectacular ❤❤❤
I thank you for your services you and your dogs you guys are awesome you're so brave
Love these videos. Would love if more departments made more pole dog videos
What an awesome way he asked her hand in marriage 🥰
Congratulations on the wedding you guys, all the best.
Love this story
God bless our police and dogs who fight crime🌺🌺🌺

Big hungs from California
Great video of a well trained Police office and her well trained K9 dog (MACK). I pray for their safety successful future.
dog Mack.
Mac*. Agreed great vid.
Wow, my 11 month old boy looks exactly like him. Almost identical markings. 90lbs and still growing but loyal as hell and a giant cuddle bug haha
HA HA that is my towel. Nice dog and good work.
GSDs are the best!!! Mac looks like my Gus, except Gus has longer fur.
Thank you very much for taking care of are country and getting the bad people off the streets and protecting us
Wow, I came here to watch German Shepherds, and it ended up being a beautiful love story too. I am getting soft as I grow older.
Awesome dedication!
If I could only have one dog in the world it would be a shepherd. They are good at everything.
When he proposed I started crying 😂💙
They are the best friends of human species ever !!! ;)
That was great to see... congratulations... Your human and dog families.
It's kinda cool to watch the eventual progress. I'm not a cop, but, I want my dog to be there for me just the same.
They are the best creation of God . ❤️👍👍
All of these dogs are heckin good boys and girls. 11/10 schmackos for all.
Officer you are Awesome and very fortunate to be a K-9 Officer.
Just got a baby girl....she is six weeks and she is so smart!!
my german shepherd’s love compares to nothing else, at all.
My shepherd and I are like the perfect match personality wise. We are both laid back and generally passive aggressive but I wasn’t prepared for all the loud whining and talking. I’m very quiet and just want to hide in public but then here he comes: “WHAWHAWHEWHEWHOOOO BARK BARK!” And everyone starts looking at me. 😳I’m like “omfg Kofi. Shut up” 😹 I thought it was just my shepherd and cuz he’s only 8 months
Kofi is a nice name.
Aww it’s ok, I mean puppies still haven’t lived the adult life yet so yeah, but give it treats or something to keep kofi quiet
