love love this video what said could not be done has been done !!!!!!! 5.7 to 6.1 ! ok want to ask did u use the 5.7 heads or 6.1 heads ? and did u use the 5.7 ecu ? how is the cooling ? they say u dont have much cylinder wall left after boring out that far? what is your rear gear ratio?
@@themojogt its real simple. Cut a section of plastigauge. Lay it straight across your mains facing up. Torque down to spec. Then remove your main caps, Use the gauge built into the packaging . And essentially what ever part of the gauge closest matches the "squished" area of the wax string is about were your clearance is. It's not super precise but it's usually "good enough". Just make sure your mains and rods are clean before you do it.
@@themojogt Though if you have your crankshaft turned. Your more likely not to need it as long as your machine shop is good, and you follow their specs. Would definintly check it you bought new rods since you most likely have no idea what the clearances are.
Bore all cylinders to 4.055, really. But I used a full 6.1 rotating assembly to make it a factory 6.1, basically. I used factory 6.1 cam, crank, rods and pistons.
Hey man, did you ever happen to get this block sonic checked? Assuming its the stock magnum block? I have a spare 5.7 block id also like to go to a 4.055 bore; with a 4.25 stroke; should net 439ci for some big NA power lol 👍
I never had it sonic checked. I remember finding a forum that said that a 5.7 block bored out to 4.055 still had more cylinder wall thickness than a 6.1 block bored to 4.090. Which, I have a 426 6.1 based that is 4.090, so I knew it was going to be fine. Assuming that guy on a forum wasn’t lying 😂
@@themojogt ahaha, yeah; I've heard some of the early truck blocks had the thickest walls, but hey; even if I do have problems with it, can always get another at the yard LOL

Let’s f-en gooooooo -epicmopars aka will
Gotta ask. Are you checking your mains and rods bearing clearances? With some plastigauge at least?! Don't recall you doing it on mazie either.
No sir I did not. I’m going to try to learn to do that with my next build

What did you need to convert the 5.7 to 6.1

Did you run any brake in oil
OEM Recommended oil
