    I am looking to purchase a new computer shortly. Currently running a ten year old HP AIO with a CORE i3. Your videos on Intel CPUs are very helpful. Considering a Tiny Desktop, Lenovo or HP. Looking for a durable configuration with potentially a long lifespan. Maybe a video on these small desktops would be of interest to some?

    Great video. Can you explain the letter at the end of the processor. For instance, what’s the difference between an i9 13900h and an i9 13900hx. What’s the h and hx please?

      For sure I can!
      In the mean time to answer your question.
      While both H and HX series are part of intel's high performance line up, HX chips run at even higher wattage (comparable to desktop class CPU's), this gives them an edge in overall performance however also makes them much hotter than H series chips meaning you will often find them in bulkier laptops.
      U Series = Low Performance, High Efficiency
      P Series = Balanced
      H Series = High Performance, Lower Efficiency
      HX Series = Maximum Performance, Low Efficiency

    Dang I love the site you used. I have a super old pc that isn't much of a gaming pc, and I checked my graphics card against the current top place (Nvidia RTX 4090 VS my Intel HD Graphics 630) and it says it's 7,480% better, and my CPU vs the current top place (Core i9-14900KS VS my Core i5-7400) is 133% better. That was fun :,)

    what's the different between intel core and intel evo? It's actually really hard to find any information online differentiating the 2 so I was wondering if anyone here would be able to clarify which of the 2 is better.

    • @SoulOfTech
      @SoulOfTech  4 месяца назад +7

      Hey there, great question! I may make a video on this sometime in the future but ill explain here for now.
      Intel Evo is just a certification on certain intel processor based laptops that meet criteria such as the ones below:
      - Last more than 9.5 hours on a single charge
      - Offer FHD or higher displays with certain display specs
      - Offer a backlit keyboard
      - Have WiFi 6E (or higher)
      - Have at least one TB4 port
      - High quality speakers
      - Use a FHD or higher resolution webcam
      - Have some form of built in bio metric scanning for logging in (ie: fingerprint reader)
      ^ These are some of the requirements for a machine to be certified as intel evo. As you can see none of these have anything to do with the processor it self but rather to do with things around it. In short Evo is just a standard that gets labeled with any laptop that meets it (generally the more expensive ones). Evo based machines are still using the same processors are non evo machines.
      Hope that helps!

    I like the new Intel 14th gen CPUs. It has a huge focus on battery life preservation. This benefits Windows laptops for non-stem business or casual use.
    Unfortunately, competitive desktop gamers want power performance jumps instead of battery life improvement.

    • @SoulOfTech
      @SoulOfTech  6 месяцев назад +1

      For sure the new Core series is taking a more Apple kind of approach, which definitely has big gains on power efficiency.

  • @mr_cramberry

    does every gen mean at least 1-2% improvement in performance than previsous gen of similar model? so 14th gen is 14% more beter than a 4th gen?

    • @lordespion8789
      @lordespion8789 Месяц назад

      theres a large gap between 4th and 14th gen, so there must be minimum 14% better performance but I wouldn't be surprised if it 1000% more

    Here's an extreme example: What's better, an i3-12100 or non-overclocked i7-8700K? Yup, the i3-12100 has a 3.6% better multi-core score and massive 21% better single thread rating.
    It's not meaningful to describe an Intel processor by its class (i3, i5, i7, i9) compared to its model number, so it's incredibly frustrating to see people advertise Intel processors by the former while omitting the latter on used marketplaces.

    I mean... You got a lot of stuff just wrong.
    You cherry picked examples where the newer version is better than an older higher-end version, but that's not even half the story. Depending on the testing you sometimes get 4th Gens that out perform 9th Gens in benchmarks. That's not the only thing that matters.
    Most benchmarks run on the same instruction Sets that have been around forever. The biggest difference in Generations is the things they support. For example 7th Gen introduced H.265 encoding. So for a media server a 7th gen i3 will likely outperform a 6th Gen i7 if you are encoding or decoding H.265. Conversely a 7th & 8th Gen will pretty much perform the same for a media server without any noticeable differences.
    Then you have the Instruction Sets. That's like a new thing that it can do. Like the 12th Gen introducing P-Cores & E-Cores, stuff like that makes much more difference. In a lot of ways the 11th Gen will out perform the 12th Gen, especially using the tests you used.
