  • We took the opportunity to spend another whole day at NASA but this time visiting the Houston Johnson Space Center in Texas! The Kennedy Space Center and the Johnson Space Center both have an exhibit of a Saturn 5 Rocket which allows you to see the enormity of these rockets. Here in Houston they have an exhibit called the Independence Plaza which gives you the extraordinary opportunity to go inside the shuttle replica Independence, mounted on top of the historic and original NASA 905 shuttle carrier aircraft.

I have no words for this kind of stuff I am just so amazed and humbled at how technological all that stuff is, I live amongst it here in florida, there have been several launches since I been living here haven't missed a single one, day or night, will never grow tired of it but I have no words to describe the awesome engineering that goes into this, just leaves my jaw on the floor

Our one and only launch was from Disney world and we were in awe! So we know how you feel!

Great video. It's amazing to think that they used a machine the size of a skyscraper just to lift a handful of men into space.

Also, y'all were about three miles from the most insanely good local seafood. Calimari, boiled shrimp, and raw oysters you have to chew because they are too big not to.

Aw it sounds like we missed out on a good feed! What is the name of the place for when we come for another visit to Houston?

I think the people of Houston need to steal one of the shuttles and put it at NASA JSC. Or maybe at least at Ellington airport which is now just a civilian airport rather than a National Air Guard military base. Part of Ellington is still under control of NASA, which still has priority over civilian flights.
I grew up not far from NASA JSC and went there many times.

That's a really interesting idea! I'm sure the folks at NASA JSC would appreciate having a shuttle on display nearby. We're glad you had the opportunity to visit NASA JSC when you were younger, you definitely would have made some pretty awesome memories there :)
