I think he was more concerned about his brother getting to finish the race and not having to have the sadness of not getting to finish the race, then whether they won anything or not. The is the true big Brother (or sister as the case may be). We look out for our siblings especially when it counts.

I am an emergency doctor, and until now I am a medical director in a hospital in Cozumel Mexico. I was Jonathan Brownlee's doctor that Sunday. I received him at the hospital where I work. He was very dehydrated when he got to the hospital, so we started IV fluids and management for heat stroke. He recovered a few minutes later. His response to treatment was impressive. He was very nice, and it was very kind of him that he spoke some Spanish with us, even though we speak English, he took advantage of the situation to practice his Spanish.
For me, this single act will always epitomise love, honour, sportsmanship and what it means to be British. One competitor who sacrifices his own position to assist his brother over the line defines sportsmanship. It was a beautiful moment not only in sport, but for what it means to be human. If we could all just put our brother before our own ambitions, the world would be a better place.
That is actually so sweet and heartwarming. Not only holding up his brother the last couple 100 meters of a Triathlon! (in horrible conditions that he just competed in too) but then making sure his brother crossed the line first to clinch second place. Jonny may not have earned the world title that day but his brother definitely got the world's best sibling award.
No matter how many times I see this it still brings a lump to my throat. This along with Derek Redmond and his Dad helping across the line when he tore a hamstring are footage you never forget.
Not only he gave up on all hopes of winning by helping his brother, but he also let him finnish ahead. That's love/respect/sportmanship to the highest point i have seen in sports
This was the epitome of sportsmanship! Its 2020 and I still go back and watch this. I don't recall who won the race now but I do recall this deed...it will forever be ingrained in history...their legacy will survive.

The Spanish Federation appealed to have them DQ'd, but it was dismissed because there was no outside help and that triathletes help each other all the time by helping zip up suits, sharing drinks, etc. It was ruled that this was no different. If a spectator were to help him, that would be grounds for disqualification.
This was absolutely beautiful to see. A brother helping the other....that's true love and commitment to make sure they both made it....but that last push left me in tears 👏👏👏👏
This reminds me of my late older brother when we were In high school, running cross country. He sacrificed his 3rd qualifying position for me, so I can to go the nationals and waited for me to cross the line first. True act of kindness 💪😎
