That is truly the best add I have ever seen I have such a love of vw and remember at the age of 17 getting the keys to my first mark one golf and now many years later I still drive a vw and always will just love how they summed up the generation timeline it makes me cry every time I watch the add make me think of life and humility its all summed up life has good and bad that is what makes life. TRULY MAGICAL........
I remember when I was around 3 years old my next door neighbor had a beetle. I absolutely loved waking up early enough to watch that car start and leave. I remember obsessing over the herbie movies. I remember this advert and loving it because of the beetle. Many years later I'm extremely happy driving my beetle. Wouldn't trade it for anything else
Fkn oth m8, vw might have had the emotions scandal, the company might not even make the beetle anymore, it's tragic 4 sure & extremely sad but long as the meaning behind this ad is somewhere still in the minds of the ppl at vw & I very much hope it is, the company should still be in good shape but this ad is the best & truely campures the meaning of owing a beetle in particular
I remember when i was 17 my dad brought a vw polo and a year later he passed away due to ill health so left me his car and its been my first car and its been great. Love my vw to bits.
When I was 21 my dad handed me his vw jetta mk 2, that was back in '94. It's been 7 years since dad passed on but my love for vw will never die. Every time I own a new vw I think of dad and not forgetting my wife who shares my passion. When people understand your passion that's love
My favorite ad of all time… the number of times that I referenced this ad in job interviews. It was one of the reasons that I wanted to work at Ogilvy.
myself and my sister used to like it, we watched TV together she enjoyed murder she wrote and Dr Quinn Medicine women. We lived a humble life those day it was simple life no stress even if we had not much. I was in std 1 and she was in std 4 in 1995. present day, I never expected my sister to die. I miss my sister watching this right now.

He performed it at our school a decade ago and then played the advert right afterwards. He had performed most of the songs witch were used in commercials. Very talented musician.
No way, can't rekame it just air it again, can't perfect something that's so perfect, makes me think of the new Jordin Davis song next thing you know. They go hand in hand.
Ah the ads of VW never cease to amaze me and of realism. Even the emissions scandal, doesnt have to down vw entirely bec they still have remnants of true icon cars in driving. Unlike those turd Nissans with bad products planning and overall quality, VW is better. Welcome to comments of reality daily.
The song was originally composed by Victor Schertzinger, with lyrics by Johnny Mercer, in 1941 and first recorded by Dorothy Lamour for the film, The Fleet's In (1942). Ifield's success with this song was quickly followed by further number one singles 'Lovesick Blues' (1962) and 'Wayward Wind' (1963).
A friend of mine played in baseball leagues too (I grew up in JHB in the 80’s/90’s too) my point was it’s not the first sport one thinks of when they think “South Africa”
@@jarrodhurwitz true. But the baseball bat strike is much more visually stunning than a dull slug of a cricket bat. Plus they probably wanted the ad to be aired in America.

One of the best native South African TV commercials ever made.

Best ad ever. Reason why i became an engineer.
great
Huh? This is more about the emotional connection between a product and it’s customer than engineering.
Still best SA ad of 90s ❤️

Still my favorite advert😍
Andre actually performed a few of his songs on Saturday at Suikerbossie in Hout Bay. He snuck this classic in to take some of us back.
Love the ad...signature collection for SA TV and memories. I met that penned and sang the backing song
Andre De Villiers. He came to my school and performed the songs that were used in commercials. I think he had wrote this one for one of his kids.
Wow...that's some time ago watching with grandparents, great memories

Because of this ad I STILL want a beetle, the original.
Timeless ad.
Absolutely awesome.
I wanted this life as kid but now I look at world so so differently.
Jordin Davis must have watched this advert for his song "Next thing you know" first time I heard his song this ad came to mind. ❤
I DAD WAS BURIED TO THIS SONG
Simply epic
Crying the ugly cry. I miss my Dad
Respect. That ad can bring up some hard memories....

Anyone know where the one is with Another Universe
Does anyone remember when this advert aired? I remember watching as kid, just wanted to know what year it came out
Was this ad made in South Africa? I always assumed it was... But have just seen the son was playing baseball???
He was probably playing Cricket. Not baseball.
Who sang and title of the song?

Any idea the date this ad first premiered?
@MrLoveOneAnother No, definitely not. I saw this ad on the TV in the 80's already. And 100% sure of this.
@MrLoveOneAnother This ad is very old. Definitely much older than 2014.id say late 80's.early 90's
About 1990.
Beautiful advert but terrible Apartheid era in South Africa.
so meaningful after all this time. but, why baseball though?
We had baseball clubs in Johannesburg where I grew up in the early 90s. Not unheard of.

The hippie era didn’t exist in Apartheid South Africa in anyway whatsoever.
It certainly did. It was mostly white
@@vincentvanwyk5522 did it also come with the counter-culture where traditional values were questioned by young people?
