Jaya is one of the OG's our very own queen of soul. She's the first Filipino recording artist to chart in the United States, as her debut single "If You Leave Me Now" peaked at 44 at the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Yaaaaaassssss!!! Kz actually calls Jaya her Mama & Jaya calls Kz "anak" (which means "my child"), though they're not blood-related... Love their tandem so very much!!! 😍😍😍
Jaya is actually half black. Her mom is native filipina while her dad is black American. She took her shot in the U.S before then she came home in the Philippines with her mom, then her mom became a TV artist, while Jaya also became TV artist and a famous singer in Philippines 🙌
Jaya’s mom Elizabeth Ramsey used to sing Bobby Darren songs. She was the first to bust out in some jazzy moves. True jazzer. Terrific voice and innovator. No one remembers her. But I was born in the 50s
That was really great! I think singing is unconsciously part of their culture. And that’s wonderfully impressive. Thanks again, TH! I enjoyed that a lot! 👍🏻🎶🤗💕🇺🇸
wikipedia: Jaya is the first Filipino recording artist to chart in the United States, as her debut single "If You Leave Me Now" peaked at 44 at the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The Philippines' Queen of Soul! thank you for this reaction. more power to your show
Am a new subscriber.love your reactions to.......of course filipino singers, theres a lot of them.get to know more about jaya thru their rendition of officially missing you with jason dy and jr.shout out to me plzzz....hahaha ramown of legazpi city...hahaha🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Like others have said, Jaya is a long time star in the Philippines. Jaya clearly respects KZ and I've seen a quote from her that whenever she decides to retire, it's good to know that KZ will be there to carry on the tradition of Blues and Soul singing in the Philippines. KZ is still young enough and early enough in her career to be thrilled to be singing with the singers she's looked up to. KZ reacted similarly when she sang with Jessie J on The Singer 2018. In fact, KZ had a complete fangirl meltdown when she first met Jessie J.
Thank you for reacting to my favourite video in RUclips. Jaya, is one of the living legends in the Philippines (like Gary Valenciano and Regine Velasquez) that young artists look up to. As like you said, I really feel good whenever I watch this video. That’s why it’s my favourite video in RUclips. If I need a ‘pick me up’ vibes, I watch this particular video.
AHAHAHAAA! Yes! This is extra special indeed. JAYA WAS A SINGER/VOCAL TO A BAND THAT MADE IT TO NUMBER ONE TOP 40 SONG IN THE EARLY 80s! But not long after she came back to Philippines & had a long career here. Her mom was Elizabeth Ramsey, a black Filipina who was a famous performer in 60s then went to America & performed in Las Vegas, stayed there for a few years & came back to Philippines.
Jaya had a Huge freestyle hit in the US "If Your Leaving Me Now". For me one of her most amazing peformances was on Wish Bus "Hanggang Dito Na Lang" her vocals are insane
Who is Jaya? well for one, she is part of the older generation of highly respected artist in the Philippines. She didn't get very popular during her time since she does backup vocals for international artists too, but she is highly respected in the music industry around here. The respect is comparable to any artist being able to sing in collaboration with the likes of Stevie Wonder or Aretha Franklin.
Jaya also blew me away when I first saw this. First it was her powerful vocals, then come to find out (after watching other Jaya videos on Ytube) that I was listening to her back in the day here in the US! María Luisa Ramsey-Gotidoc broke out here in the US "freestyle" music scene way back in the late 80s. She was re-christened "Jaya" by her American producer at the time. She was a backup vocalist for the hugely popular Stevie B and then unsurprisingly Jaya went solo. Her biggest US hit was "If you leave me now:" ruclips.net/video/A4eICIYN2Js/видео.html For KZ to step up and perform this with Jaya just reminds me how "fearless" and versatile this little woman is. Thank you again for shining light on these "hidden gems" outside of the US. Love, love your reactions! Please react to KZ's recently debuted single "11:59." It's her very first international hit that was delayed nearly two years due to the pandemic: ruclips.net/video/PUbV3ky0GbY/видео.html
Who is Jaya? Jaya is a part Filipino Jamaican artist. She was once a backup vocalist for Stevie B. Sad to say she is very underrated. I'm just happy to see that you have seen her merits and acknowledge her wonderful skills. for that I thank you!
@@frisc0pn0ib0i maybe you were just born late but she was so famous since the mid 90's and you weren't aware of that when she was at her peak... so it's safe to assume that you were born no later than 1990
@@ecilatnecniv I was born in 83. I grew up in the US and her single that peaked at Billboard 44 is hardly a hit. And in case you didn’t know any artist in the Philippines are highly respected anyway. That doesn’t always mean they are a huge hit.
@@ecilatnecniv in case you’re lacking knowledge on how the music industry works I will give you a bit of info. Ang tugtugin pangmasa doesn’t always qualify as great music. The music industry will release any stupid songs because they will make it look like it is the best song they’ll hear in the radio when it’s probably the worst song in the world. It’s all about profits. Do you actually think these record labels and executive producers cares? No. Play Willie and Bayani all over the world and we will be the laughingstock of the world. And yes they’re overrated because their music is garbage. Which brings me to the point that Jaya doesn’t have the same treatment they give the artist you point out because it’s either these record labels are a bunch of idiots who don’t know real music or majority of the Philippines are either stupid or just don’t appreciate real vocalist. Jaya was given the title Queen of Soul because she is an amazing vocalist. This is not to say she’s not popular. But her caliber deserves more than the popularity she received. This is why she still underrated.
Please listen to KZ’s Lauryn Hill Medley! It was from an instagram live. Link here: ruclips.net/video/y8_4dvUT7-Y/видео.html by the way this is a 10-minute video. Enjoy! 😉
Nope, it's not the water. The karaoke was invented by a Filipino, seriously. Almost every household has one. Kids learn to sing early. Every community has a yearly sing-along contest and those kids/teens/adults from the community who excel in karaoke join the sing-along contest. Some become professionals and compete all around their province (state) and sometimes outside. The really good ones get discovered by professional managers and they move on to the national stage.
If you want to listen to one of Jaya’s best artist lab performances, please watch this: ruclips.net/video/HeVQcCpGg3Y/видео.html Cover of Officially Missing You with Jason Dy and Jay R. Thanks and enjoy!
I’m going back to Philippine on September would you to go ? free room we have 3 home and no worries about food. all you have to pay is plane tickets and pocket money for your self shopping 🤣😂
