Your speech about having lower voice 😍 I wish I knew that when I was younger! There was a time when Jaya was at the peak of her career, I was a little girl of 5 and I used to listen and sing along to her songs several times a week but then millenium came and the influence of US Pop dominated the media here. It was hard to sing in the same range and pitch as Britney or Mariah or Christina Aguilera. Then in my 3rd grade I remember cleaning the classroom with some groupmates and I was singing when classmate a commented in a disappointed way that I have deep, full voice like Jaya. He then mimicked my voice and had the others laughing. Me being young then and not really appreciating music in different forms, made me feel embarassed with the voice that I had. So I tried to change my voice over the years and was never convinced of my own tone. I resumed singing karaoke only in my college years and only around people who I know won't judge my voice 😅 That story aside, it is good to hear your side about how your country differs from ours when it comes to music. For people who have deep love for music, I guess they would appreciate living here although it's hard to make it big in the music industry as the competition is tighter. We often say, "Filipinos are the hardest audience to please/impress with singing." But I guess that was then. Good thing the media has evolved, Filipinos are getting more exposed with more genres and different styles of singing rather than the *Diva-ish* ones (is that even a word? Lmao) and platforms such as RUclips exist now which enables everyone to make a name for themselves should they choose to. Thanks for reacting to KZ and Jaya (we pronounce J like american english so it's Jah-yah). I don't mind the talkative bits, those inputs are welcome to this viewer 😊

"Her first single, "If You Leave Me Now", was a hit in the dance clubs and was subsequently released to Top 40 radio. Produced and co-written by Stevie B (who also sang some of the backing vocals), the single entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart in October 1989. It eventually peaked at number 44 in February 1990 and remained in the Top 100 pop singles chart for 26 weeks, an unusually long chart run for a single that peaked outside the Top 40. According to playlists submitted to Billboard magazine by American radio stations at the time, the song was a top 20 hit on dance-pop stations in various large markets, such as New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco." sources: wikipedia, www.last.fm

María Luisa Ramsey Kagahastian-Gotidoc (born March 21, 1970), known professionally as Jaya, is a Filipino soul singer, rapper, record producer, actress, dancer and presenter of mixed Jamaican and Visayan descent.
