John, these follow-up vids are great to see. When I watched your vise comparison, I knew the Howard was the one I wanted... just need to save up and figure a way to sneak it past the warden. Thanks for sharing. PS: Maybe you can get Jeff H. to share a "promo code" so all your loyal and grateful subscribers can feel a little extra love :-)
Always great to find jewels like this! Made in the states by entrepreneurs looking to make things easier! Thanks for sharing. If my garage had any usable space left ,,,,,,,
Now that is a sale for me. I hate having to undue that screw from the pattern maker to remove it and clear the bench. I love the pattern maker and this is a game changer for me. Home run on this one John, thank you.
@@FClassJohn I am am torn between the two. I can see applications for both. The articulating one could be mounted to the side of the bench and retain all its values without taking up any surface area.
Great idea. Really enjoy Eric and your videos, very informative. Looked at the pattern makers vises, have not seen any with the extended spindles. Can you give a short demo on how you did this?
@@FClassJohn Thanks for the reply. Sorry, not trying to be a PITA, just clarifying . Maybe I used the wrong term - spindle. I have looked at both Grizzly and Woodcrafters. I don't see a long stem (as you referenced it) on either one, that would allow the vise to be used with the Howard's Total Vise. I have an industrial lathe and mill, so making one is doable.
@@carlyoung6808 It’s not a problem. That’s what I figured you meant and that’s just how it came from woodcrafters. I’m not sure if there is a way to buy one aftermarket but that’s just how mine came but I know he says that he’s made that to fit with other vises as well without the need for a really long spindle. But of course every vise is just a little different.
What are the pros and cons of the pattern maker vise and the #5 gun vise? Is there any reason to have both for smith work? I am thinking of getting a crossover 2 with a bench vise mount for my 4"vise and a smac mount for a pattern maker vise Thanks for sharing
I just happen to have the pattern makers vise so I wanted to see how it would work. For gun work the #5 is great but if you already have a pattern maker vise you may want to try that first and see how you like it.

"But wait, there's more!..." Seriously, that system will be able to serve many jobs and enable more function at one work station.
It seems like the more you try things with the Total Vise, the more you like it over the other model.

Thank you. Also don't forget you can get the cheaper Bow Stand Base if you don't need the added articulation. Either one will support this.

Will the pattern makers vise adapter fit on the base of a parrot vise..???
Do you happen to know the inside diameter of the adapter pipe..?
I have no idea on the Parrot vise but the insert tube diameter is 1.759"

That’s just how mine came from Woodcrafters. The one from Grizzley looks about the same.
