- No magic projectiles or summoning stars from the sky, in this challenge I can only use swords that deal direct swing damage to enemies. Will I be able to beat Terraria using only true melee damage?

Directional Swing needs to be a normal terraria feature, and no, it's not OP, all it does is make melee weapons swing in the direction of the cursor, meaning you can swing behind you, in front of you, up, and down.
it just balances true melee. That's all it does, no damage boosts or speed boosts or anything like that.
I’ve done this challenge before, twins was a pain.
What I did to beat the twins was I killed spatmatism through a wall with a spear and then boxed myself and used the beekeeper bees to kill retinazer
Edit: OH this is calamity I thought this was vanilla for some reason
The Bladetongue would have been a faster kill with Retin. I do not know how you accomplished it with BK, but just using BT w/ dummies cause the ichor projectiles from BT to hit Retin.
(In b4 anyone complains BT isn't true melee, it is. You need to strike with the sword first for the projectile to come.)

@@sc0tt562 It would be. Since both Twins charge at you for a bit, FB would shred a ton of HP in just a few seconds.

Calamity true melee is really fun but also really difficult. Good luck! I just finished a true melee run on master/revengeance, and some of the weapons are awesome

One challenge I recommend is tools only! It's basically a harder true melee at times lol, but it's really fun trying to find those workarounds!

maybe for the next episodes you should use the "directional melee" mod. It allows you to swing a sword in any direction and would make this challenge a lot more playable
imo it's sorta cheaty to use though
@@MisterBeanJeans I think it just adds a feature that should've been in the base game to begin with. It's not really that op or anything, considering directional attacks is already something used by boomerangs, yoyos, spears, and shortswords.
Terraria overhaul mod does a better job at making direction melee IMO. Not sure how cheaty it would be considered though
@@Sol_Aureus true but it also changes the gameplay a lot more. I've also heard it doesn't pair well with calamity, though that might be outdated information.

fargos would make this challenge way easier (without eternity mode) if you used the tungsten enchantment to add 150% size to all true melee weapons and a little damage.

ive played through calamity and vanilla 12 times for both and not once have i ever seen the pyramid give an amber hook.

And then there are Boomerang, Flail and Jojo's the forgotten Melee. And some weird flail like sh*t like the Golem Fist, KO-Kanon, Flairon, Solar Eruption, Dual Guillotine and the Anchor.
pre boss, you can immediately go to the underworld and get a true melee weapon - Old Lord's Oathsword.
it's super good i would say - very good mobility, gives i-frames with it's right click and does TONS of damage
if i remember though it does summon projectiles but is technically considered true melee.

true melee is kinda goated in early hardmode, blade of grass can easily carry you up to skeletron

You should do this again with the throwing cla- er SUBclass.
Basically any weapon you chuck with your hand and does ranged damage, preferably consumed when chucked.

i think the most fun thing about true melee runs is melting down astrum deus with the vulcanite lance and adrenaline
You should use the directional melee mod so that you can aim where you are swinging
Bit of advice for post DoG, the phaseslayer from draedons arsenal counts as true melee some how
