Risking Death, I Dig Out an Abandoned Mine and You Won't Believe What I Found

Sometimes you just have to dig to find the good stuff even if that means coming face to face with a couple of skunks. Sliding under tons of rock reveals never before seen artifacts and was well worth the risk.

Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on RUclips!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...

"I'm not gonna lift that tarp." ... 10 seconds later ... " What's in the cabinet?"
exactly!!! thats what i was thinking!!!
What was under the tarp? I would have looked and and I don't think that there is anything wrong with that. Looking isn't stealing.
Yes looking under a tarp is much less a offense then opening doors and entering.
Lmfao same thought went through my head it killed me 🤣😂
I’m sure he just doesn’t want to be nosy, it’s covered for a reason. For what reason? We shall never know
Going back through old videos and catching up, I have to say that this mine looks to be one of the best preserved that I have seen you go into. As said in other comments, given the amount of artifacts at the top of that shaft, I can only imagine what is down at the bottom. Personally I think it would be worth it to get a small group of people together to go in and try to clear and reinforce that passage so that you can finish exploring. The mystery of that shaft would haunt me every day until I was able to get down there.
Kudos to the editor!! That google earth zoom down transition into drone footage in your intro is VERY well executed. Inspiring!
I agree. Seems a little long but well put together.
A bit cheesy
Especially the mine sites highlighted in time with the music.
@@Stevesbe no mop loo
But at least the cabinet was not locked
I have a fascination of exploring old gold/silver mines, but would only get myself into deep do do. Not to mention I would never have the courage to actually enter an old decrepit mine. After finding and subscribing to your channel I get to experience first hand what I would do in my dream hobby. I cannot tell you how much I enjoy your trips. I have so much respect for how much knowledge and experience you have and it really is a pleasure knowing that you have such a nack for exploring really dangerous mines, but at the same time totally in charge. Lastly your production is top notch, from the camera work to your humorous vocalizations makes for an excellent and enjoyable experience. I have mentioned your travels to a few friends and they all said they would like to see what your about. Look forward to your next adventures. Thanks.
I really love the smoothness of your camera shifts. So many guys whip the lense around like they're swinging a golf club. Thank you for keeping it extremely smooth.
I have no idea why the folks at natgeo or discovery (even the history channel since its direct correlation) haven't gotten ahold of you guys! Love these videos!
It would be all drama.
I bet on tv gly woulda been buried under that collapse he went under. Then mister m woulda nuked it open and they find a diamond bigger than the moon
@@vihreelinja4743 Don’t forget there’s always a curse in every mine.

You need to go back to that vertical shaft after the partial collapse. That looked so cool... if that amount of stuff was left topside, think of all the treasures at the bottom.
That’s what I was thinking. But he’d be risking his life big time.
“Gly”: I would love to see what’s down in there myself but I don’t like tempting fate twice. That collapsed area would have to be supported before crawling under there again.
I cannot watch any of these without my heart in my mouth.
Yeah I was thinking please go down that shaft but I knew the video wasn't long enough for that. Maybe some day lol
You both gave such cool demeanor and character, it's always a blast watching your videos!
PHEW....you we're channeling Canada Frank in this one. Peeled a few year off Mr. M due to stress. Be safe, thanks for the great video!
I know exactly where you are when you go into the big silver mine with the collapse. I have been in there as well, my husband is friends with the guy that owns it. There are some other mines in that area, and we know the owner of another mine right down the road that we have been inside as well. I live right up the road from these places.....and I have rocks in my rock cabinet from the waste rock pile outside of this mine. I thought I recognized that collapse in the beginning of your video. Very cool!!! :)
Good to hear that those mines are still owned and cared for!
“Gly”: This is a great mine and I tried really hard in the editing process not to reveal its location. I’m happy you enjoyed the explore and thank you for not revealing the location here in the comments. Great sites like this need to be protected.

I really hope you got to explore the area better. There is interesting stuff all over that place. In fact, that area that the mine is in has all kinds of old workings all over the place. Our miner friend stopped by the other day, and told us he's gonna be selling his claims, and we are thinking of buying a few. 😊 And unfortunately, he also told us the man that owned this mine passed about a month or 2 ago. My husband was friends with him. He was a good man with extensive knowledge of the mining industry. He used to get called all over the world to tell people how to set up their operations and where to mine. He was good at what he did. RIP sir. And I would never say the name of this mine....I love this place and we go out here as a family just to relax and I spend hours and hours picking through that waste rock. lol. It is amazing country and I'm glad I get to live in this amazing area. There are lots of goodies hiding all over the area.
Is the friend rich? If not it appears to be way too much work , for a basic income/living .
Only 3 mins in and I have to comment on Mr M's exquisite taste in fine tea cups and its consumption; all while driving.
You sir, are all class. 😉👍🍵
Was thinking exactly the same "Ah, one of those who have to have a porcelaine cup when hiking. Wonder what brand."
Why do I enjoy looking at tunnels dug into the side of hills. I need to have a mental evaluation.
Thanks.
My new fave channel topic along with care of baby flying fox bats in australia. He does a great job should have his own cable tv show.
I look at these tunnels and remember they were dug by hand. Pick and shovel, all material removed, braced as you go. This was terrible work...
I rode sport bike motorcycle for many years and remember laughing the first time I heard the term "adrenaline junky". Fact is that I get a similar rush while underground.
The question is why aren’t more people interested in holes in the side of mountains !
@@jettyeddie_m9130 they have an heightened sense / paranoia about collapse, mostly.

One of the coolest mines yet. That shaft toward the end was amazing. Hope you get to go down it.
Excellent camera work in the mine, no sudden movement, great lighting.
The Picture of Randy in the jeep was classic! That's the humor that does not take away from the exploration! Great job GLY!
First time I have ever seen a skunk in a mine. You guys are buying rope? Awesome about time, you should always have it when going down old ladders!

I always called it "titched" in the head, but "touched" works too! Gly scares me Mr. M.! You are not alone!
I think the original phrase was 'touched by God' and it was something people said about the mentally retarded.
Mr. M's commentary is what really gives these videos their extra special touch.
Opening seen had me in stitches, Mr M driving down the road, sipping daintily from a tea cup. The only things missing were the pinky finger sticking out and the sandwiches cut in little triangles..... LOL
I’m not gonna lift this tarp... let’s see what they got in this cabinet 😂😂

"I forgot my pistol"
I can't stop wondering if he has a suppressor...
No shit van we say sound causing a collapse!
Me too. I wouldn't want to fire a pistol in that mine!
Would be advised to: make supressors mandatory
If he actually had to use it, i doubt hearing is very high priority atm
cool electric winch .....someone must own that mine......better safe my friend ....time for the rope gear ...... keep'em coming .

"I got a lighter to burn your cothes." Love that! I 'm looking forward to see that. It'll come sooner or later :)
I have been watching since your first episodes. I am so claustrophobic I I cannot go into some elevators or into dark basements or attics. That being said, I LOVE ROCKS. I really enjoy your, Mr M’s, and Randy’s adventures. Thank you for letting me see into a major occupation and way of life in our western USA past. Today’s artifacts were special. Thank the Lord for 86” TVs. I know you crave exploration and adventure but stay safe, sir.
It’s amazing how the skunks can move around in there with no light.
"That looks like a lot of fun" is basically another way of saying "Hold my beer." 😄
Right?
You made me laugh and think of my Primo (cousin)... He is a War Dog and adrenaline junky. He always says "Hold my beer"... Then does something crazy as hell! Hahaha
That ladder shake scared the sh*t out of me. Thought I was watching the last episode for a sec.
Really Good work as always My Dear Friend 👌
Wishing you luck for next Video and Hoping for more such content soon 🤝 Have a great weekend 👍
From the time I started watching your videos to now I cannot believe the difference. I thought your videos were great before but now they are amazing super professional quality. Do not stop!!!!!
Would you mind giving a quick rundown on the different mine classifications and what they entail? Never heard of class 3 mines etc.
It’s so cool to see inside a mineshaft I’m from the Australia and I go into the outback quite a lot and seeing the abandoned mineshaft always has been wondering how far does it go
Look at him holding that coffee cup all Dainty! Lol have fun guys!
Mr. M you are absolutely correct... he is touched, special!
Your channel is gonna get huge, believe me. Just keep them coming. And keep safe! 😁
This was a anxiety episode! That wiggle got me tingling when I saw you put your foot on the ladder! Good job fellas!
Nah - just think - if the fall didn't kill him, the fact that there'd be NO LADDER to get up out of there, would kill him anyways..
Same reasoning why modern miners make huge opencast mines - instead of deep underground rabbit "warrens'
They are open aired to allow miners to easily walk up the haul road - if it all turns to custard..
;-)
Loooolll...... That Randy's photo...... I just can't stop laughing and watching it......only 3 minutes in this video and I'm already at the top.... You are great guys. Simply great
I'm glad that you got to record that nice looking winch and shaft before it's sealed off forever.
What a fantastic channel, so much hard work to bring this together, really appreciated, regards and respects from the UK
Where's the other Sidekick is it back there in a photocopy only that mine could have been a smelly situation LOL enjoy the show guys y'all stay safe and may God bless you
The way mr. M holds the coffee cup and sips that coffee is awesome.
it’s tea he drinks
Yeah another excellent episode. Hey I'm starting to get worried about all those sketchy ladders you risk climbing on. Sooner or later a rung will give out. Have you though of some fall arrest gear with a retractable line. We use them at work for long accent/decent tower ladders. If you slip it instantly halts your fall. Easy to set up with a little rigging. I know more stuff to haul around but I'm just thinking of your safety. Thanks again for another fun episode.
Gly... as always, you do such a fabulous job of this. The physical exploring, and the exceptional editing and producing. Well done Gly. I really look forward to the weekly releases. 👍🙂
Thank you...

“Gly”: Thank you!
Yahoo another adventure to watch. Say Hi to Mister M. 👍
I really do hope ya'll can return to this mine, because that vertical shaft with the big bucket at the top just got me so excited! It looked like a really interesting mine shaft that no one has been down into for a long, long time! With that being said though, all the right equipment and safety stuff would be 1000x better to have when you do! Great video, love Mr. M and some of his sayings! haha :)
Man every single time you go He-Man like at 20:00 I start singing As Good As for you. Love the videos and the fact you keep them kid friendly because my 8 year old enjoys watching them as well while we are stuck at home. Stay safe you guys!!

My friend, you are not going to make it to a ripe old age!
Dang dude.. there’s enough time to be much safer than you are exhibiting!
Exciting RUclips videos are Not Worth You Life!
Listening carefully to Mr. M is a very good idea.

“Gly”: Well, I hear what your saying but all that safety takes the fun out of the explore... at least for me it does. We’ll be getting into ropes and rigging here very soon and that will allow me to explore more unseen places but at the end of the day I will always enjoy free climb exploring much more unhindered by all that gear.
Good stuff , another great find Gly & Mr M 👍.
Very keen for the class 4 & 5 and all the fun you will have with ropes access.
Pete Australia.
What does the class 4/5 pertain to? Difficulty of the descent?
Gly is an old caver. They develop an attitude of, "The harder it gets, the more I like it." He is just thrilled at clearing rocks out and slithering down the hole to get to another mine section. One perhaps no other explorer has been in for a long time.
Slick intro Gly! And the picture of randy made me smile :)!!
"If that rock let's loose, I'm dead...Let's keep going.."
If it was me, and maybe it isn't just me, that pistol wouldn't have been for potential boars alone.
Pretty cool stuff, Gly & Mr. M. You guys go above and beyond to show us some fantastic mines. Thanks

This mine is such an amazing find. Mr. M would love the "Think Safety First" on the timbers at the shaft at 34:50. The numbers on the timbers seem to indicate you were at the 150' level and it goes down to 190' maybe? Ore bucket is super cool. Can't say enough about the great video production. Thanks for another captivating adventure. Scott from Arizona.
I really appreciate the way you record the videos, without many movement, it is very nice. Greetings from Jalisco, Mexico
Thanks, please always be safe and have fun exploring caves
There is, I believe a way to use the rails as an antenna for your radios, and possibly any metal ducting. The railroad uses (used) the rails as 1/2 of the radio system, from what I remember.
VLF radios would likely work in the mines also. That area you crawled thru was a totally , imo, foolish place to go. Yes, very cool stuff, but I also noticed how dry rotted many of the timbers were. The only safe way to get there would be to move the dangerous rock and rebuild the lagging & stalls.
I CAN'T WAIT for the new equipment to come in and we start seeing these cooler mines n what not, awesome video "Gly" and "Mr.M".
Listen to Mr M
Your channel is more interesting than most Network programming 👍
In these Arizona mines Black-widows are common. Keep Benadryl & Tylenol with you for a bite (seek medical attention disclaimer) . Diamondbacks, Mojave greens and sidewinders are pretty common. Mojave greens are fairly obnoxious and have 2 types of venom, steer clear of those. Most critters will leave you alone if you leave them alone, but with rattlers, it’s easy just to stumble across them and they don’t always buzz. We used do have plenty of the three varieties and coral snakes around our house due to having a koi pond (in the middle of the desert), but we knew where to look once we were familiar with the area. Javelina are usually predictable unless they have young, or are cornered- then stay away. 🌵 When we used to land at mines with a Hughes 500, Long ranger or A-star. You would usually scare most of the larger critters away... for a bit. I carried a collapsible metal walking stick that was handy for snake issues and wore snake gators if we were doing search & rescue in the boonies. 🐍 Never had issues with mountain lions. We used to fly darted mountain lions & bears etc, for Az Game & Fish relocation in the 80’s. But then I never ran into one in a mine - no thanks 😳 stay SAFE guys and keep up the great work !
I see Randy is with you in photo. He's quieter that way I guess lol!
Very cool mines, a shame you couldn't explore further but safety first! Thanks guys, be well and stay safe.
I would think after the 'Bat Cave' Gly, you would not worry about a couple of skunks lol Looking forward to your return to this mine. Love what you have done with Randy, show more stuff from Big, Old BOB. Love how you point like a boss and Mr. M. just turns and burns.
