It developed from the British mod scene, based on a particular style of Black American soul music with a heavy beat and fast tempo. No copyright infringement intended. It’s lovely to see some of these films concentrate on the footwork for a long time. The second and last film clip allow us to see the footwork. I’d love to go back to that time. It was amazing fun.
Sigh,this brings back memories. Every Sunday night at the Mayfair Newcastle. Just dancing the night away in our own little happy world. Fantastic times,couldn't get enough if it. Music cheers u up big time. I'm going to play more music ,very loud!! I'm up dancing now,bliss.

I see some people don't like seeing normal working people enjoying themselves and they complain about the Jocelyn Brown song not being Northern Soul. Sorry ..but I am 76 and live down south ..and don't pretend to know everything about Northern Soul. ..but still love the Northern Soul scene and I just added Jocelyn Brown song because I think it would have gone down well on the dancefloors. That's my excuse ..and I'm sticking to it !! 🙂

there still northern soul in brifield lancs its work man's club 2quid on the door new years eve is always busy but you have to buy the tickets from behind the bar later on always busy we ktf here Burnley UK 🇬🇧 England here

some of the music on here are not song by the original artist, northern soul was a term not used until the late 60 early 70 , the soul sound was played in the twisted wheel in the mid 60 in the day of the mods

Whenever I watch any Northern Soul dancers I think it seems quite a lonely type of dancing. They dance on their own don’t appear to interact with other people whilst dancing, very insular. It honestly makes me feel sad. They might as well be just dancing in a room with nobody else there. I’ve never attempted to dance this type of dancing. When I used to go out dancing I’d always be dancing with at least one person but usually 2 or 3 facing each other. We’d laugh and joke as we danced sometimes copying each other.
They all look happy enough to me !! :)

@@relaxationmusic6850 not sure about 50s think Wigan casino ended long before people now in their 50s were teenagers I was too young at 13 to go to Wigan and by the time I was 16 it was all over 1978 to 1981
@michelles2299 Wigan casino closed 5th September 1981. I used to go 78 and 79, then I married so we went out with the inlaws at weekend, so I couldn't take them, they wouldn't last the night lol!
