Morning Drink Recipe: Weight Loss and Adrenal Fatigue: Thomas DeLauer
    Coconut Cranberry Smoothie
    Ingredients
    Coconut Water/Milk
    Cranberries
    Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
    Cream of tartar
    Maca Root (powder)
    Coconut Water or Coconut Milk
One side effect of adrenal fatigue is high blood pressure
A 2005 study found that when subjects were given coconut water for two weeks, their systolic blood pressure was 71% lower and their diastolic blood pressure was 29% lower than those who drank plain water.
The high potassium content of coconut water has led researchers to investigate the potential benefits for reducing cardiovascular disease risk.
    Cranberries
It is the high levels of the specific substance proanthocyanidins (PACs) that are found in cranberries that helps the body’s immune function to ward off illness and disease.
Proanthocyanidins refers to a larger class of polyphenols - these powerful polyphenols are able to nurture the lining of the gut, where a large majority of the immune system is actually located.
Because cranberries can ward off harmful bacteria from accumulating and growing in the gut lining, healthy immune-boosting bacteria are able to thrive and create a powerful defense against sickness.
The polyphenols may help prevent the build-up of plaque on vessel walls, and the antioxidant components of cranberries are also linked to a reduction in blood pressure.
    Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
It supplies an astonishing 84 unique trace minerals. There are 21 trace minerals that are widely agreed upon to be necessary for the body's metabolic processes
Himalayan salt is mined from 200 million year-old seabeds; it is completely free of the heavy metals and other toxins that show up in sea salts harvested from today's oceans.
When the adrenal glands are fatigued, they fail to produce adequate amounts of several hormones, including aldosterone.
Lack of aldosterone can disrupt the sodium balance at a cellular level. This can actually increase your needs for natural sodium and helps explain the salt cravings many people with adrenal fatigue experience (could explain why certain people favor salty foods more than others). (3)
    Cream of Tartar
Cream of tartar, also called potassium hydrogen tartrate, is an acidic natural by-product of winemaking.
Adrenal fatigue can cause hypertension, or high blood pressure, and can lead to heart attack and strokes.
If you do suffer from low potassium, however, cream of tartar is a simple fix, packed with 16,500 mg of potassium in a mere 100 grams of cream of tartar (4)
    Secret Ingredient: Maca Root (powder)
Clinical trials have shown that maca has positive effects on energy, stamina, and mood. Maintaining positive energy levels is related to having lower levels of anxiety and depression, both of which maca has been shown to positively help achieve.
Maca root is an adaptogen herb, which means that it helps only where it is needed. For instance, if your body is overproducing a hormone, it regulates it back to normal and if your body under-produces a hormone, it helps raise the level until it is balanced.
The adrenal glands are part of the endocrine system and are managed by the hypothalamus and the pituitary glands. When someone is suffering from adrenal fatigue, their adrenal glands are unbalanced causing excessive tiredness and horrible stress.
Maca root, when used consistently, has the power to nourish and stimulate the hypothalamus and the pituitary glands which in turn brings balance to the adrenal glands

I battled Adrenal Fatigue for years, tried everything, It's what you should NOT do is the MOST important than all of those herbs.I agree that one should address nutritional deficiencies but it's NOT ENOUGH to fix the issue. What helped me the most is yoga, meditation, learning how to switch from sympathetic nervous system to PARAsympathetic, addressing the quality of my thoughts, adressing my patterns, stressors and triggers.

Self testing works wonders. I have low sodium and potassium. It's a challenge keeping them balanced. I have blood tests taken frequently due to my condition. I have found that self testing has been very accurate. So in my case I need a lot more sodium while increasing my potassium. This video is a great guideline, just self test to make adjustments where needed. Google self testing foods and supplements. I also recommend a daily concoction in conjunction with self testing. The adrenal glands need constant nourishment, especially when their compromised. Also fish oil or Sea Buckthorn oil is very beneficial for adrenal glands. Thanks for the video. I like the cranberry and cream of tartar addition to the mix. 👍

Experience tells me the "medical profession" wants us in the dark anyway. They want general public "wondering what they are saying" so they can change the definition or interpretation as it pleases them so they keep the suspense high. If one gets outside their instructed/insured realm they become intimidated and start trying to blame the body, patient, and nutrition because it/they are not responding as prescribed.

To people wanting to do this, starting this month (Sept.) fresh cranberries will be available in all grocery stores and on sale closer top Thanksgiving. I just buy a bunch of bags, like a dozen, and pop them straight in the freezer to use as needed. I make Keto friendly cranberry sauce to eat all year around, It's a great topping or dessert, even awesome for a snack or spread, because very low in carbs! I use monkfruit stevia blend or erythritol as a sub for sugar. Why not freeze them the same way for this drink? They last well over a year in the freezer. Take then out and use as needed.

I didn't see anyone else ask this question . I am doing intermittent fasting (16 hours fasting with 8 hours eating). Will this drink negate the fasting if I drink this in the morning? if so, can I drink this during my 8 hours of non-fasting? Also since I am attempting to keep my carbs below 20 grams per day, is there a better low carb substitute for the coconut water? Thanks for your time and help.

all interesting information you present here, but how does this drink relate to the other drink you've presented, the one with apple cider vinegar? I've been drinking that one for over a month now. Can't say that I've lost any weight with it, but my digestion feels calmer..... Should I switch to this one? I have all the ingredients except maca powder, and I think Iknow where to find it.

Thomas...I have a sense this drink will help get my body back in the morning. My energy level is extremely sluggish and groggy especially in the morning and often times I reach for the sweet sugary junk that I know is countering my body's actual needs. Can we use filtered tap water instead of coconut water or do I absolutely need to make a run to my local health food market for coconut water without the sugar?

I'm trying so hard on the Keto diet, I've been really sticking to it for almost a month and its just not working. I lose a pound or two then I gaine a pound or to up and down. My weight loss chart looks like a heart rate monitor .I eat one meal a day I usually only eat about 700 to 900 calories a day and I'm not losing weight and keeping it off. I'm feeling very discouraged and ready to give up :(

I know this is old but part of the problem is you are eating too little! Assuming you are a woman, I know as a woman that our bodies tend to freak out with new diets and they freak out with a sudden plunge in calories. You probably should eat at least 1,100 calories and some days not do fasting or rather eat two or three meals instead of just one. Eating only one meal all the time has a tendency to make you feel sluggish because ideally, you should be getting close to your normal calories all in that one meal! That's a lot for the body to digest in one sitting. It's helpful from an insulin response standpoint but from a digestive standpoint, it's not the best. I'm not saying a person can't do that but it should not be like that every day. I have been doing two meals a day trying to follow keto and I realized that I need to mix it up. I hope that you are doing well now.... regardless of whether you kept up with keto or not!

Is there a reason you left ACV out of this recipe? I wanted to include 1 TBS to help with mineral absorption unless ACV has some quality that's not aligned with adrenal healing. Lmk, thanks!

I have a question. I was consuming almost a pot of coffee a day and I quit in a method to detox. I was at a 3 day mark when the most debilitating feeling and headache happened. I am not only with drinking 1 cup of lotus green tea in the am, or a zip fizz which has all vitamins and minerals and 100mg of caffiene. Is that okay or do i just need to knock off caffiene for a while?

Hi! So i am a little confused.....:) extreme fatigue means low cortisol levels -low cortisol levels mean a high chance of low potassium ( i read at magadvogroup) but why did u say high potassium when adrenal fatigue is at its worst? or did u simply mean MORE potassium as in the ratio between sodium and potassium? am i getting something wrong or missing out? this drink would be beneficial either way? so it just balances out no matter what your individual potassium sodium levels are? THANK YOU!!!

Lakewood do an organic unsweetened cranberry juice it has no sugar whatsoever and is really tart just like boiling cranberries. I guess it would be safe to use that as well?

Would fresh lemon juice and cream of tartar work together? I'm thinking my stomach 'jelly fat' might be holding on due to stress. I'm in good shape otherwise.

Is the Cream of Tartar for anything other than potassium? Could you substitute a 1/4 teaspoon of No Salt in it's place. I'd also be careful with the Maca. It's a potent stimulant and many with adrenal issues don't do well with stimulant.
