Morning Drink Recipe: Weight Loss and Adrenal Fatigue: Thomas DeLauer
Coconut Cranberry Smoothie
Ingredients
Coconut Water/Milk
Cranberries
Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
Cream of tartar
Maca Root (powder)
Coconut Water or Coconut Milk
One side effect of adrenal fatigue is high blood pressure
A 2005 study found that when subjects were given coconut water for two weeks, their systolic blood pressure was 71% lower and their diastolic blood pressure was 29% lower than those who drank plain water.
The high potassium content of coconut water has led researchers to investigate the potential benefits for reducing cardiovascular disease risk.
Cranberries
It is the high levels of the specific substance proanthocyanidins (PACs) that are found in cranberries that helps the body’s immune function to ward off illness and disease.
Proanthocyanidins refers to a larger class of polyphenols - these powerful polyphenols are able to nurture the lining of the gut, where a large majority of the immune system is actually located.
Because cranberries can ward off harmful bacteria from accumulating and growing in the gut lining, healthy immune-boosting bacteria are able to thrive and create a powerful defense against sickness.
The polyphenols may help prevent the build-up of plaque on vessel walls, and the antioxidant components of cranberries are also linked to a reduction in blood pressure.
Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
It supplies an astonishing 84 unique trace minerals. There are 21 trace minerals that are widely agreed upon to be necessary for the body's metabolic processes
Himalayan salt is mined from 200 million year-old seabeds; it is completely free of the heavy metals and other toxins that show up in sea salts harvested from today's oceans.
When the adrenal glands are fatigued, they fail to produce adequate amounts of several hormones, including aldosterone.
Lack of aldosterone can disrupt the sodium balance at a cellular level. This can actually increase your needs for natural sodium and helps explain the salt cravings many people with adrenal fatigue experience (could explain why certain people favor salty foods more than others). (3)
Cream of Tartar
Cream of tartar, also called potassium hydrogen tartrate, is an acidic natural by-product of winemaking.
Adrenal fatigue can cause hypertension, or high blood pressure, and can lead to heart attack and strokes.
If you do suffer from low potassium, however, cream of tartar is a simple fix, packed with 16,500 mg of potassium in a mere 100 grams of cream of tartar (4)
Secret Ingredient: Maca Root (powder)
Clinical trials have shown that maca has positive effects on energy, stamina, and mood. Maintaining positive energy levels is related to having lower levels of anxiety and depression, both of which maca has been shown to positively help achieve.
Maca root is an adaptogen herb, which means that it helps only where it is needed. For instance, if your body is overproducing a hormone, it regulates it back to normal and if your body under-produces a hormone, it helps raise the level until it is balanced.
The adrenal glands are part of the endocrine system and are managed by the hypothalamus and the pituitary glands. When someone is suffering from adrenal fatigue, their adrenal glands are unbalanced causing excessive tiredness and horrible stress.
Maca root, when used consistently, has the power to nourish and stimulate the hypothalamus and the pituitary glands which in turn brings balance to the adrenal glands

This is fantastic, addresses the sodium/potassium balance but what about phosphorus ? I wanna turn it into a keto electrolyte water w/ ionised magnesium, leaving out calcium, since the body holds onto it so readily as opposed to all the other 4 minerals.
Any suggestions anyone ?
@@freespiritkaro3414 why ionized mag?
Coconut water has so much sugar. What about Keto?
I’ve tried this, and I can tell you this works. My sleep has improved drastically and I don’t have waves of fatigue anymore, throughout the day. You will need to do this consistently for couple weeks to reap the benefits, but I think its absolutely worth it.
Hey moe. How many grams a day do you take and how soon did you notice improvements?
@@RichHandsome how many grams of what exactly
@@extremelucky1 the cream of tartar
@@RichHandsome about half a teaspoon. So probably 3-4 grams
Moe Sallehi after how many days did you notice results?
Just wanted to say that after 25+ videos that I've watched in the last two days I'm baffled by this content. Absolutely amazing, well sighted, and explained material that has me addicted. Thomas, your recipes and references to studies undoubtedly advances the understanding of nutrition, health, and the human biology of your viewers . Thank you so much for your work!
I’ve been having low potassium symptoms for awhile now and I didn’t know why until I watched this. I just replenished myself and I feel better already! Thank you!!!
Hey exactly what did u take
@@RichHandsome probably what was in video ! She said it clear.
potassium and magnesium go hand to hand.
potassium in the morning.
magnesium citrate 40 minutes before going to sleep.1/2 tea spoon in a cup of tea.
the both regulate each cell of our body
I have to say thanks. I got a bunch of my friends watching you now too. I didn't have to tell them anything. They all asked me. I'm f-ing ripped. I look like I stepped back in time. You're a saint bro. Great videos, keep changing lives!
I battled Adrenal Fatigue for years, tried everything, It's what you should NOT do is the MOST important than all of those herbs.I agree that one should address nutritional deficiencies but it's NOT ENOUGH to fix the issue. What helped me the most is yoga, meditation, learning how to switch from sympathetic nervous system to PARAsympathetic, addressing the quality of my thoughts, adressing my patterns, stressors and triggers.
excellent
Yoga is demonic. Did some research, after a friend informed me about it
I made this this morning and I loved it, it didn't taste as bad as you suggested at all! Of course you eat the cranberries, can't let those go to waste! Btw I use coconut water not made from concentrated coconut juice but the right from the nut stuff :) I'll keep you posted about the results, because I'm tired all the time, (even when not eating carbs nor drinking coffee)
So what’s the results?
Whats the results???
@@sharmannobody7889 lol, apparently lost his lunch, from which end is anybody's guess.
Amazing how skeptical i was going keto and fasting on and off for thr past 2 years unable to fight the long term keto flu. Recently i said screw it im gona attempt again with all these weird. Pink salt and ACV drinks to see if it really makes a difference. Amazing result.. The pink salt ACV and cream of tartar mixture throughout the day when i do a prolonged fast worked like a magic trick

I started taking potassium and my BP normalized in 2 months!
Alli what kind of potassium
What kind of potassium and how much per day ? Thank you
I started using coconut milk with cream of tartar. I feel so fucking good, man. I used to think I was low in sodium. Probably was a little, but potassium from cream of tartar is amazing. Thanks, brother!
How many teaspoons a day and what improvements did you notice ?
Your channel has litterally saved my life this year
Self testing works wonders. I have low sodium and potassium. It's a challenge keeping them balanced. I have blood tests taken frequently due to my condition. I have found that self testing has been very accurate. So in my case I need a lot more sodium while increasing my potassium. This video is a great guideline, just self test to make adjustments where needed. Google self testing foods and supplements. I also recommend a daily concoction in conjunction with self testing. The adrenal glands need constant nourishment, especially when their compromised. Also fish oil or Sea Buckthorn oil is very beneficial for adrenal glands. Thanks for the video. I like the cranberry and cream of tartar addition to the mix. 👍
coconut water,, cranberries, pink salt, cream of tartar, Maca powder.
Not too much on the salt.
Hey Thomas, you should do a 'What I eat in a day' video.
lionface10 great idea! Been planning this one for a while too
Thomas DeLauer sir , surely you must make a video on it.
Thomas DeLauer Yes please I was thinking the same
ya be good to see
Thank you for all your videos! I really enjoy them. There's liquid 100% cranberry unsweetened juice at Trader Joe's, would this work in place of The Cranberries, then you would have a more texturally pleasing drink?
Hi Tom, luv ur vids.
I have adrinal fatigue while my blood pressure is usually always low. So it's not always good to consume foods that lower BP if U have AF.
Yeah my blood pressure fluctuates so much.
Good q
@@samrousculp4306 blood pressure is supposed to fluctuate.
I had 8 strokes almost 1 year ago. After tests they found my Adrenal Glands were over working and I believe the cause of my high BP. Recently i finally had tests where my adrenal glands were normal again. But I can't wait to drink this 2 or 3 times a week to see what else i can improve. Many of the symptoms you mentioned I have and still deal with today. Thank you!
I’m glad your doing better
Love your videos, so jammed packed with advice. Could you please do one on keto rash, and ways to solve and avoid it. Thanks ☺
Thanks for placing the info in commentary. Much easier to absorbe for me than watching or listening.
I'm trying this tonight. I didn't have any cranberries so I used fresh lime juice. Doesn't taste bad in my opinion. I'll let you guys know what happens! 🥂 to your health!
This video was absolutely amazing, I only wish I had found this prior to my left adrenalectomy. So many people suffer from high blood pressure and never know it could be adrenal fatigue.
Aldactone ( spironolactone) is a good medicine for women. Reduces blood pressure, blocks androgens, helps with insulin resistance and PCOS and even depression/bipolar symptoms
I am so hoping this helps my AF. Carnivore, caffeine, and stress wrecked my gut plus gave me AF. Not used to feeling so drained and racked with pain!
Should you mix this in a blender or nutri bullet, and what do you do with the cranberries if you’re not eating them?
Hi Thomas! Your #1 binge watcher here. Would organic unsweetened cranberry juic work also? If not where would I find the unsweetened cranberries?
Yes it will!
Lol l love the ending when he tastes it and looks into the camera like “it’s not the best” 🤣🤣🤣 love the honesty thanks for this video really needed it!!!
You could hear it in his voice he wanted to gag too, LMAO
What kind of drink should I make in the morning when I'm on the intermittent fasting diet. I'm currently doing lemon juice and apple cider vinegar, and just recently added pink salt.
I'm using the same, I make about 1 liter that I consume at work with regular water, usually last from around 6 am till noon, wondering what else I can put in to stay in fasting mode and not get low on the minerals n stuff?
You can do intermittent fasting without drinking. Muslims fast that way in ramadan. IT is Healthy. Just look in to iT. Good luck.
Can you just soak the cranberries in the coconut water overnight then blend it?
Methinks they have to be just smashed because the actual fruits themselves have carbs. The juice is not as carby. Maybe if you filter it out...?
Very helpful! Thank you for the step by step. I really wanted to understand whyyyy and you thought me! Thanks 👌👌
You’re A KING
Dear Matt DeLauer, Can you make a video for women who are experiencing menopause, it's Painful, and terrible, and I need information, but without Coconut water please. Thank You.
Hi, I love your videos. Can you tell me what do you think about glucosamine for joints and pain and what about block lectin with this and ficus vesiculus
Thomas what a great speaker! Lots of material and everything covered perfectly! Thank you!
Hi Mr. DeLauer.. May I ask you some question about this video, my first question is Will this drink break my fast? Next question is how many time a day I can drink this? I work as Gojek driver (delivery/buying services) it means I'm on the road for hours and sweating a lot cos it is hot here, temperature constant during the year. Third can I skip the Berry since for now I couldn't afford it and I don't where to find unsweetened dried Berry in my place. Thank you.
A Dr Berg video I watched claimed that Potassium helps with arthritis because it helps regulate cortisol so it doesn't get TOO low as cortisol is anti-inflammatory
(Unless I'm remembering wrong)
Powerful mixture! Do you suggest breaking the fast (pause ketosis) 3 mornings each week?
Loved this! Thank you for posting. Love the no-nonsense ingredients and equipment. Phenomenal info!
Hey! Could you do a Keto version? Cheers Thomas! Love your videos! Any info on how this compares to expencive adreanal support vitamins?
Could I just juice the cranberries instead of boiling them? Great video man, thanks!
I appreciate the information you share- the way you teach and put in context what you share. Thank you!
Sounds great! I have this problem the morning. I can't eat nor drink coconut, or orange juice. What other kind of liquid can I use for the base of the drink?
since I subscribed to ur channel & I watch nothing else, you are the complete package!!! thank you so much for your informative videos 🙏💞
Excellent information, thank you so much 😎👍
Thanks for the helpful info. How much should I vary this? For example, if I'm having a sedentary few days, versus if I'm sweating allot by running 10 miles every other day, and hard cardio every day? Thanks
Experience tells me the "medical profession" wants us in the dark anyway. They want general public "wondering what they are saying" so they can change the definition or interpretation as it pleases them so they keep the suspense high. If one gets outside their instructed/insured realm they become intimidated and start trying to blame the body, patient, and nutrition because it/they are not responding as prescribed.
Keep up the great videos and make nutrition and good health understandable!
David L. Griffin I appreciate the kind words.... and... you're right, unfortunately :)
David L. Griffin i
Thank you so much for the video. Did you use fresh cranberries or dried? Thinking maybe since you soaked them they were dried but noticed a comment saying they were having a hard time finding fresh. 😏
When it comes to adaptogens, what would you recommend? Would you choose Ashwagandha over rhodiola? I'm taking rhodiola right now, I bought it after you recommended it in the lion's mane video. But I no longer take lion's mane, and I see more benefits listed for ashwagandha. Also, is it okay to switch from one adaptogen to another? What about consuming maca powder while taking one of the two mentioned above?
Great video Thomas. I've taken maca in the past and it really dehydrates me - about 24 hours after I take it I feel terrible. Any ideas on how to better tolerate it?
Tom this is the 2nd recipe that you have promoted and I'm wondering if one recipe is superior to the other. New subscriber and am finding your info outstanding. Keep up the good work.
Deborah Lora i have same question
Hi Thomas. I have a few questions please. I have a problem(well several) but my body seems to make kidney stones (regularly) out of oxalate. I have to avoid high oxalate foods. I'm trying to treat my menopause symptoms(early onset), autoimmune disease(ankylosing spondylitis) and the resulting, obvious, problematic adrenals. My question : Is the Maca powder high oxalate? In your other videos, you suggest wheat grass powder for either menopause/adrenals(cant remember which) - can I add wheatgrass powder to this smoothie? Or is that very high in oxalate? If so, any substitute you can suggest or either please? We are doing low carb so trying to work supplements into our diet....
Tky for sharing. Will implement.
Could you please do a video about modified corn starch in a keto diet?
As deep as possible with the bio-science please...
Thanks.
Yahav Esh you want him to do your homework?😨
You should do a video on starting fresh. Im 45 been lifting since teenage years, taken every supp except roids( maybe i should). But just want to start from the beg.
Hi, a few questions: could we blend this up or use 100% cranberry juice or powdered cranberry?? Thank you
Still hoping to see some video's for Type 1 Diabetics!! Love the video's you put out! Keep up the great work brother.
Did you find any? Hope you’re well
I like your honesty about the taste.
love your content. The balance between instruction and recommendation is on point for me.
To people wanting to do this, starting this month (Sept.) fresh cranberries will be available in all grocery stores and on sale closer top Thanksgiving. I just buy a bunch of bags, like a dozen, and pop them straight in the freezer to use as needed. I make Keto friendly cranberry sauce to eat all year around, It's a great topping or dessert, even awesome for a snack or spread, because very low in carbs! I use monkfruit stevia blend or erythritol as a sub for sugar. Why not freeze them the same way for this drink? They last well over a year in the freezer. Take then out and use as needed.
Thomas important question: On Maca do we use Raw Maca or Gelatinized? I've read many articles that we should not consume raw Maca and should only used the cooked or gelatinized. Please let me and this is important! thanks
Really needed this today. Thank you. But I’m allergic to maca??!! 😩
so am I, not allergic but I am hypothyroid
Thank you, brother.
Would you recommend this as a drink before or during a hike?
i must ask what effect this might have for the elderly. i started sharing this cocktail with my senior mother. i stopped because i thought it may have been upsetting her bowels. is loose stool possible after this? i wondered how it reacts to the liver and gallbladder.
Dear Thomas, how do you respond to people - many of whom are doctors - who deny the very existence of adrenal fatigue?
thanks . i will do this. where do you get maca powder can you get it at the grocery store? what does it taste like?
This sounds great . Will it adversely affect the fast or is the caloric content such that I need not worry ?
I didn't see anyone else ask this question . I am doing intermittent fasting (16 hours fasting with 8 hours eating). Will this drink negate the fasting if I drink this in the morning? if so, can I drink this during my 8 hours of non-fasting? Also since I am attempting to keep my carbs below 20 grams per day, is there a better low carb substitute for the coconut water? Thanks for your time and help.
Thank you for this recipe, I've been struggling so bad with adrenals and I feel so imbalanced...I hope this helps!!
stacy lynn did it work
Thomas, is coconut oil diluted on water good as well? I cannot get pure coconut water that easy (most of them are filled with added sugar)
Can you drink this every other day without ever stopping? Or simply until you feel the positive effects?
all interesting information you present here, but how does this drink relate to the other drink you've presented, the one with apple cider vinegar? I've been drinking that one for over a month now. Can't say that I've lost any weight with it, but my digestion feels calmer..... Should I switch to this one? I have all the ingredients except maca powder, and I think Iknow where to find it.
I like the honesty, "not the best, but it will do the job"
Thomas...I have a sense this drink will help get my body back in the morning. My energy level is extremely sluggish and groggy especially in the morning and often times I reach for the sweet sugary junk that I know is countering my body's actual needs. Can we use filtered tap water instead of coconut water or do I absolutely need to make a run to my local health food market for coconut water without the sugar?
Can you do a video on moringa?
Thanks again. I love your videos.
1:54 she definitely didn't take a bite of that Apple!
Joshua Bush she kissed it
its probably plastic
How often do you drink it
Also how much do you drink in one sitting?
I'm trying so hard on the Keto diet, I've been really sticking to it for almost a month and its just not working. I lose a pound or two then I gaine a pound or to up and down. My weight loss chart looks like a heart rate monitor .I eat one meal a day I usually only eat about 700 to 900 calories a day and I'm not losing weight and keeping it off. I'm feeling very discouraged and ready to give up :(
I know this is old but part of the problem is you are eating too little! Assuming you are a woman, I know as a woman that our bodies tend to freak out with new diets and they freak out with a sudden plunge in calories. You probably should eat at least 1,100 calories and some days not do fasting or rather eat two or three meals instead of just one. Eating only one meal all the time has a tendency to make you feel sluggish because ideally, you should be getting close to your normal calories all in that one meal! That's a lot for the body to digest in one sitting. It's helpful from an insulin response standpoint but from a digestive standpoint, it's not the best. I'm not saying a person can't do that but it should not be like that every day. I have been doing two meals a day trying to follow keto and I realized that I need to mix it up. I hope that you are doing well now.... regardless of whether you kept up with keto or not!
Is there a reason you left ACV out of this recipe? I wanted to include 1 TBS to help with mineral absorption unless ACV has some quality that's not aligned with adrenal healing. Lmk, thanks!
Do you have any videos on people who are underweight and always tired, decreased appetite and when eats doesn't put on weight and has difficulty adding weight.... ?
Thanks for the info! Great Video
I am doing the intermittent fasting (21/2) and I only consume 1600 calories during the two hours. Would this drink have the same effect if I consumed it not in the morning but during my eating window?
Thanks Thomas... Question , Can Maca supplement ie capsules/tablets or Maca extracts be used instead? I stay in India and Maca Powder is really expensive
I can't stop watching his videos! And I know thats a good thing.
Helpful with my salt craving, thank you. Odd thing! Maca gives me headaches?
I have a question. I was consuming almost a pot of coffee a day and I quit in a method to detox. I was at a 3 day mark when the most debilitating feeling and headache happened. I am not only with drinking 1 cup of lotus green tea in the am, or a zip fizz which has all vitamins and minerals and 100mg of caffiene. Is that okay or do i just need to knock off caffiene for a while?
Hi i hope you can help me about this. I really like the benefits of maca, but is it bad when you’re taking contraceptive pills?
Sir can I have this drink during intermittent fasting time ?
Thomas could you do a video on the best way for children to eat who are about to enter puberty to maximize growth and development
Thanks man. Great job
Hi! So i am a little confused.....:) extreme fatigue means low cortisol levels -low cortisol levels mean a high chance of low potassium ( i read at magadvogroup) but why did u say high potassium when adrenal fatigue is at its worst? or did u simply mean MORE potassium as in the ratio between sodium and potassium? am i getting something wrong or missing out? this drink would be beneficial either way? so it just balances out no matter what your individual potassium sodium levels are? THANK YOU!!!
Lakewood do an organic unsweetened cranberry juice it has no sugar whatsoever and is really tart just like boiling cranberries. I guess it would be safe to use that as well?
Would fresh lemon juice and cream of tartar work together? I'm thinking my stomach 'jelly fat' might be holding on due to stress. I'm in good shape otherwise.
You can you replace the coconut water with if you have severe food allergy to the coconut?
Thank you.
As far as sodium/potassium is concerned, what would be a good approach for someone who has Hyper Aldosteronism, in an effort to regulate hormones and reduce blood pressure?
What kind of coconut water do you use? Or does it even matter?
I like that you're honest about the flavor.
Can we replace the cranberries with cinnamon? I believe both of them have Proanthocyanidins. Not all countries have fresh cranberries.
hi Thomas, is drinking Hot COCOA Sugar Free w/ a little of Stevia could break a fast? This is my everyday drink alternative to coffee or tea.
thank you
Does this work for really low cortisol too?
appreciate your vids. thank you
Is the Cream of Tartar for anything other than potassium? Could you substitute a 1/4 teaspoon of No Salt in it's place. I'd also be careful with the Maca. It's a potent stimulant and many with adrenal issues don't do well with stimulant.
