  • This TPU Cooling Jacket for the MiniUni Unitank fermenter. Made by Brewtools really works. It's definitely capable of controlling fermentation temperature at lager temps. It will also fit keg fermenters as well as others.
In this video I do have some time lapses running, so if you're Keen to know. How long it took to hit certain temps, watch the entire video. My testing started at 85° f and concluded just above 40° f.

    Seems simple and effective!

Thanks for the review! It seems like a clever gadget for simpler cooling without more cleaning or stuff coming in the way of the floating dip tube. Although I wonder if there are any solutions people here would recommend fore cooling in a smaller apartment without the need for a fridge or a large glycol chiller that can't easily be stowed away.
Also, what was that wire temperature probe you used and how do you keep it sealed where the wire enters the chamber?

That kind of cooling can be tricky. Refrigeration pumps are really handy. It might be time to get a rotor molded ice chest and some.
I actually just let it dangle inside at the proper height for my testing. You could also use some silly putty and just stick it to the outside wherever you want. This would also work relatively well.

Have to say if I were considering a MIni Uni I think for the cost differential of $85 for the 40L, I'd go with the MiniUni 40+ rather than the 40 with cooling jacket.

I agree 100% but if you've already got one, at least this is a solution.

can this be used with plastic fermenters? like fermzilla.

Absolutely! You'd have to get longer laces though to get it to work

Hi Bradley, what gph pump do you think is sufficient to run through one of these?

    • @PortlyGentleman
      @PortlyGentleman  5 месяцев назад +1

Honestly, if you're running a single, I think you can get away with just about any little pump.
Having said that, I am a huge fan of the DC variety.
They're a little more spendy but well worth it. I'll link one.

@@PortlyGentleman thanks for the pump recommendation. I think brewtools recommended max pressure of 0.5 bar and I couldn’t understand how to convert that to a pump size. Didn’t want to burst one with too much flow. Had my two jackets arrive yesterday, so I’m excited to do some testing this weekend!

@@MikeN1990 awesome! Let me know how it turns out. The one good thing about DC pumps is you can easily control the pumps output.
I recommend testing with a slower pump rate if you're just using a single jacket. See what that does. I had some interesting results 🍻🍻

That does look like a latex bikini on the fermenter, or is it just me..?

The price for these is Ok, but I think they should offer them in a wider version for the larger miniUnis (to avoid daisy chaining them). Glad they can finally offer a at least somewhat decent cooling solution for the original miniUni.
However, I still feel pissed, that the jacketed miniUni wasn't available from day one or at least pre-announced at day one.

I would agree. Would be nice if there was a wider model available.
It's unfortunate that they realize the need for a jacket later.
