  • After having the ARB awning for some time we have added the Napa Maxi Trac awning to the left hand side of our Bushwacker 10 HD. This is a quick comparsion of the two different awnings.

I've had the Maxi-Trac awning on my 4runner for a little over 14 months now. It has been used extensively while camping, as well as providing shade when shooting, or working on another vehicle while on the trail. I have zero complaints about it. The stitching has held up nicely, it hasn't leaked while in heavy rain (with a leg dropped of course), and the wind has had no effect on it when properly guy roped out. The cover has held up well through 2 Arizona summers, with only the orange logo fading slightly. Overall I'm very happy with it, having added another to my wife's 4runner and my sisters Excursion. My only complaint about it at all is that since they first sold them they have become near impossible to find. I was fortunate to purchase them when they first came out at $99.

I had ARB awnings on my Runaway Camper units and they were great. Now we have a DIY Ford Transit camper van we built out and after two years, I decided to add an awning. I found the the Napa awning and decided to give it a try. I tried to order it online, but had problems. I went to a local Napa store here in Seymour and they ordered it directly for me. I got it yesterday and will get it installed before a trip to Jacksonville next week. I am going to use four brackets to install it to our roof rack/deck. Being taller, the awning will angle more severely, but it will work for us. I am guessing you live not too far from us. Be safe out there!

I believe so, we are NW of Cortland. Been enjoying your videos. The peeps who bought your Runaway reached out to us. Small world.
I have not tried it myself but the ARB room is supposed to attach to the Napa Maxitrac awning.

Good deal! Just be sure to check and make sure they bolts will thread through the nuts before you try putting it up. Very frustrating when the bolt locks on the nut!

Wow, Thanks Much for comparisons, i was leaning a wee bit more towards ARB but... For bout 120 dollars less i might have to deal with those lil issues, n just make it work.
    Thanks so much

oddly enough the thing I like about the ARB awning is that the zipper tucks up into a covered pocket... I suspect other awning that don't have that in wet parts get a little weird after a couple years from water leaking in

Trick on these, or any zipper, to prolong the life, improve function, and waterproof a bit. Use the plain cheap Chapstick, or some candle or canning wax. Just rub on the zipper and work back and forth a few times until it is worked in.

Thanks for the tip. We have tubes of Chapstick in every vehicle. I swear Cindy is addicted to it!

I also have a Bushwacker and have been looking for an awning, thanks so much for the video. You indicated you switched the bolts on the Napa to 5/16 standard bolt so did that work much better. Also is there a reason you did not put four per roof rack bar for extra support for the Napa one. Thanks again.

Thomas, the nuts that came with the Napa awning had a manufacturing defect and locked on the threads of the bolt like they were welded.
Two 5/16 bolts per mount are more tha. Adequate to hold the awning. We have over 10,000 miles on ours with no issues.
