Jet ski wrapped up in a body bag... I love your descriptions! I trailered with a jeep for years, It's pretty easy when you know how to back up a trailer but some people just can never get the concept.

I used to work for a tree service company for about 6 years, and I drove all kinds of stuff. Used to drive the chipper truck which was a GMC 6500, 6 speed manual of course and had a big chip dump body on the back. It towed the chipper, which was the largest single axle one they made. It was like driving a trailer that was even shorter than that ski, and the truck had no back window on the enclosed dump bed so you could only use your mirrors to see anything. Normally you could just barely see the edge of the chipper far out in the mirrors when you were driving it straight down the road. Other than that, like backing up you couldn't see shit. The chipper was over 9,000lbs too, so it wasn't a toy and would sink into customers lawns if you weren't careful. Plus we had to throw out plywood sheets when we drove either of our bucket trucks because they were heavy and huge and would sink right in and wreck shit if you weren't paying attention. Point is I feel for the guy in the jeep with the ski. He would never be able to drive that chipper truck/ chipper. He would probably hit something under pressure LOL

Used to back up my kayak trailer with my jeep back in the day. That was tough enough as it is! Wifey and I had the comms between us down pat but MAN, it took some time to learn. Probably 4 or 5 trips out to get it right.

We were such amateurs in our youth. We had a small tri-hual. My husband tried backing up without the boat and kept trying. I got out and would pull the trailer the direction it needed to go. After a few times those that were waiting, started helping me and we got it done. I knew my husband was embarrassed, but hey, we all got a good laugh out of it!

CCC, you're so right about the 90 degree point in turning either direction backing up. If you go past 90, then you're already in trouble unless you're good and can fix the counter steer. For noobs, small movements.

Worked in a large Rental Yard for a few yrs and I learned to back a trailer, it was required. I used that same technique, hand on the lower steering wheel and move it the direction you wanted the trailer to go. I can see why there always seems to be a small crowd of spectators at that ramp, busy days must leave you spoiled for choice on what to edit in.

  • @nickmccallon8520

Rule of thumb with small trailers, if you can’t see it in your side mirrors your good. It’s the smallest wheel turns and it’ll stay straight.

Why the hate for the Rebar Anchor ?? 🙂 It's a wreck hook. It's what us Wreck Divers have used for years. If you get hung up, you simply drive the boat opposite direction,,,, the rebar bends and your free without losing your anchor. Straighten it back out and use again......

Up here in the north east Long Island sound area during blackfish ( Tautog) season
We fish on top of ship wrecks
We never drop anchor instead we use grappling hooks made of number 5 re bar
Best thing to grab on that wreck
And in case can’t retrieve it
    Cut the line and go
    Just saying
    Great videos 👍🙏👍

I'm here in Rhode Island I use the wreck anchor rebar anchor all the time striped bass fishing in the rocks it's a lot better than losing anchors especially since a lot of our fishing is done in the middle of the night the last thing you want to deal with is a stuck anchor right off of 6 or 8 ft breakers that are breaking on boulders

  • @cnewton1973
    @cnewton1973 6 месяцев назад

With a 2 door jeep it is super easy to back up & launch. You can pull down head first to the ramp, than make a tight 180 turn down the ramp. Then you got like 50ft left to back up. That’s how I did it with my jeep.

@4:00--Jeep makes it even harder when they do Not drive forward enough to straighten the trailer.
I'd say that a rookie mistake, but we have a friend that has been doing that with boat/snowmobile/motorcycle trailers for 50 Years!
He also waits until you hit something, Before waving like crazy to stop. I use the 3, 2, 1-foot, Hand Clap method, to show the driver when to stop.

I wish people would get their boat or jet ski ready before they back down instead of doing it on the ramp . It is so rude to not be ready. And if you cant back then let someone who knows do it, if there is no one there to do it for you then freakin go practice before you go to boat ramp. STOP being rude and stupid at the ramp !!!!!

It helps if you pay attention to the trailer while driving. If it looks the same as when your are driving forward, it will go straight. Same thing when connecting to the trailer. You don't have to see the tongue and hitch. If the fenders are right, so is everything else. You shouldn't need more than small corrections and a nod when to stop.

I got to give you credit in the voice-over commentary, as I'd be laughing so hard with the jeep and jet ski backing in.
I remember when I was in the military, back up trailers and have my "ground guide" doing that spinning hand thing. Furthermore, I'd get out of the truck and say, do you have any idea what the hell that spinning nonsense looks like in a mirror? Then simply say, just point the direction you need me to have the trailer go. After "training" my ground guide, I could back a trailer in the woods (not paved) between trees with six inches of clearance on each side.
So you may understand how I watched that Jeep backing up and almost falling out of the chair laughing. Don't know how you are so steady with your voice watching that. Heck, I might have to stop watching your videos for safety reasons.
