What I'm worried about are company's graphic designers because I've talked to a few of them and they said that it saddens them because they are right now wasting potential, some even said that it took them no time at all to do the new logos or that their colleagues (non-graphic designers) could do it in paint. I just miss the speech bubble. It had a little gradient, and looked so nice on my desktop and in my taskbar. Now it's just a flat circle and I don't know why that's better. I think they said it makes it easier to embroider on a shirt, or make it into a pin, but that is so unnecessary. I've seen far more complex things get embroidered anyway.

As a designer for over 10 years with actual background in branding, I can say it wasn’t the strongest move on their part. The icon isn’t so bad, but the font was a horrible choice and needs to be less cartoon looking. As the uproar suggest it doesn’t suit their customer base. I also think the new color is an issue since so many were very comfortable with the darker version as this is an app used on PC’s and phones by gamers. Gamers tend to stare at screens to much and brighter colors are just naturally more harsh on the eyes. So its understandable why people dislike it so much. Seeing all the uproar tells me that they have a very loyal customer base and probably would have gotten a far better community response had they involved the community in the rebrand. Overall it just seems rushed after their failed merger with Microsoft to try and stand out.

@@Haunted_Hunter saturation is up, so is the brightness, and its slightly different- it's just bright enough to be annoying without it being actually functional as a supersaturated version. it seems like a halfway between something thats actually out there and weirdly bright and the original blurple, which was much better as a functional background color. the new colors are okay as accents but for most other things it just tires out your eyes

There’s a lot of neurodiverse and disabled people saying the new color actually hurts them. Some people have gotten migraines from the brightness and had to quit using it, and people with dyslexia said the new font is harder to read than the old one. There’s complaints of it being different, and there’s actual complaints of it hurting people for no reason. I don’t even use discord & I think they should replace it.

That's not really a good criticism, if your eyes are that sensitive to a common color that'll be coming on your screen at some point or another, you need to be using a greyscale/night mode setting on whatever device you have. Biggest issue I have here is how this affects color-sensitive people. I experience migraines over certain colors, and the new color happens to be one of them. It's making it genuinely challenging to use the App without experiencing some form of head pain minutes later.

The reason many people hate the new logo so much is because of accessibility. The new text is hard to read for dyslexic people and generally worse to read in the app. The new colors are too bright and satured - they are difficult to impossible to read on the dark background of the app, and the harsh colors strain people like me with autism. i'm devastated, the discord logo no longer says pisscorp (for those of you who don't get it -- the old D looked a lot like פ, a hebrew character that's pronounced like the English P -- so. piscorp)
This is my opinion, but I will try to make it as subjective and fair as possible. ---The new color is **a bit** too saturated, it clashes more than it contrasts (especially with dark grey) and it is a bit more tiring to look at (even for a shade of blue) but it's not the end of the world. ---The new Clyde icon did fix some very minute details with the old Clyde. The simpler and smoother look does make it appear better scaled down on screens. Plus you still can use the speech bubble. for bigger icons ---The new typeface is the big problem. Some letters and styling do not flow well (the most egregious example is the "i", because of its smaller x-height but high tiddle, it stands out stylistically and breaks the flow just a bit). Old logotype had easier balance being all caps, going lowercase was a mistake in that case. It could have been avoided with the compromise of using of Petite capitals. This new typeface ditched the condensed width for an extended width. It makes the curves stand out more and gives a less technological style, more soft and organic. This would work better on offbrand soda or detergent. It also removed the angular -somewhat polygonal- open counters found on the old "D"s, removing a bit of the dynamicity, uniqueness, and thus, memorability. At least they tried making the kerning work unlike the "fixes" you see on Twitter. Definitely not the worst case, rebranding can do some good. I see myself getting used to it quite rapidly, but I do see it immediately as a downgrade. Life also continues as usual.
Saturation is the new black I've noticed that the current design trends are: - Big bold letters - high saturation primary color, - quirky typefaces They nailed all those boxes (I don't mean to sound disparaging, I actually really like the new look)
I prefer the old colour because it’s easier on my eyes, and the new font makes it look like it says “DiSC0rd” which is annoying, but yeah I see where you’re coming from. Video summary: “You design something better. What? You can’t? Cool. Keep this one then.”

What I'm worried about are company's graphic designers because I've talked to a few of them and they said that it saddens them because they are right now wasting potential, some even said that it took them no time at all to do the new logos or that their colleagues (non-graphic designers) could do it in paint. I personally think this oversimplification trend is an excuse to slowly get rid of graphic designers
Also about the other recent news involving discord, I personally think they should first focus on fixing their servers and other technical problems first like how bare-bones the phone app is with some problems that shouldn't be there at all instead of changing their logo and collaborating with Sony.

I honestly don’t mind the new logo and stuff. I actually kinda prefer the new logo over the old. It is more simplistic, yes, but a bit easier to remake. That is how you successfully simply your logo. The blue is a bit more on an indigo side than blue than it was before, which I also don’t mind. It’s the new text that bugs me. It’s definitely creative and unique, but I personally don’t think it really fits with Discord. That font is more for some sort of children’s cartoon title in my opinion, but at least it’s not as bad at a font as Arial, Times New Roman, Copperplate Gothic, or Comic Sans

As a designer for over 10 years with actual background in branding, I can say it wasn’t the strongest move on their part. The icon isn’t so bad, but the font was a horrible choice and needs to be less cartoon looking. As the uproar suggest it doesn’t suit their customer base.
I also think the new color is an issue since so many were very comfortable with the darker version as this is an app used on PC’s and phones by gamers. Gamers tend to stare at screens to much and brighter colors are just naturally more harsh on the eyes. So its understandable why people dislike it so much.
Seeing all the uproar tells me that they have a very loyal customer base and probably would have gotten a far better community response had they involved the community in the rebrand.
Overall it just seems rushed after their failed merger with Microsoft to try and stand out.
Yep, it's so dumb, you have the one side which is a vocal minority of people with too much time on their hand that are way too effected by colours and lines and the other side that ridicules any one opposing or complaining about this stupid change as losers or no-lifes or whatnot. My verdict is both sides are retarded to an extent and the font is a complete flop and people are not completely out of their mind to be angry at a big change in their branding, especially considering that it's not even a good font, correct demographic/audience or not. I think the argument of "Oh it's easier to recognize a simple font!" is kinda dumb, because would it not be the more complex fonts that are easier to recognize, since they're, y'know, more complex? I think the discord logo was fine before but people are definitely overreacting.

i like how for example audacity didn't change its logo throughout the years. it could really use a make over but some reason i like it the way it is.
In not adapting to trends, it ends up looking way more unique when compared with other logos. I like it a lot too, it's very charming.

They do kinda look outdated though. I've been using audacity for a long time, so I love the fact that pretty much nothing has changed about it, but I tried to get my sister to use it, and she simply couldn't navigate the outdated UI and confusing menus of it. There’s a lot of neurodiverse and disabled people saying the new color actually hurts them. Some people have gotten migraines from the brightness and had to quit using it, and people with dyslexia said the new font is harder to read than the old one. There’s complaints of it being different, and there’s actual complaints of it hurting people for no reason. I don’t even use discord & I think they should replace it.

I happen to be one of these people! And it's TRUE. The new color is really hard on me. It's super over stimulating and makes using discord much harder, which I used BECAUSE it was so simple and sensory friendly. I honestly wanna throw up when I see it.
Also yes, the new font is much harder to real, a lot less dyslexic friendly.
That's not really a good criticism, if your eyes are that sensitive to a common color that'll be coming on your screen at some point or another, you need to be using a greyscale/night mode setting on whatever device you have. Also, the new color is barely present in the app itself anyway, it's not covering your screen as soon as you open discord lmao
Im okay with the new logo, but i really enjoyed the blurple. It didnt burn your eyes as much and was just more pleasing in general.

Biggest issue I have here is how this affects color-sensitive people. I experience migraines over certain colors, and the new color happens to be one of them. It's making it genuinely challenging to use the App without experiencing some form of head pain minutes later.

The reason many people hate the new logo so much is because of accessibility. The new text is hard to read for dyslexic people and generally worse to read in the app. The new colors are too bright and satured - they are difficult to impossible to read on the dark background of the app, and the harsh colors strain people like me with autism.
So the hate is absolutely justified.

This is my opinion, but I will try to make it as subjective and fair as possible.
---The new color is **a bit** too saturated, it clashes more than it contrasts (especially with dark grey) and it is a bit more tiring to look at (even for a shade of blue) but it's not the end of the world.
---The new Clyde icon did fix some very minute details with the old Clyde. The simpler and smoother look does make it appear better scaled down on screens. Plus you still can use the speech bubble. for bigger icons
---The new typeface is the big problem. Some letters and styling do not flow well (the most egregious example is the "i", because of its smaller x-height but high tiddle, it stands out stylistically and breaks the flow just a bit).
Old logotype had easier balance being all caps, going lowercase was a mistake in that case. It could have been avoided with the compromise of using of Petite capitals.
This new typeface ditched the condensed width for an extended width. It makes the curves stand out more and gives a less technological style, more soft and organic. This would work better on offbrand soda or detergent.
It also removed the angular -somewhat polygonal- open counters found on the old "D"s, removing a bit of the dynamicity, uniqueness, and thus, memorability.
At least they tried making the kerning work unlike the "fixes" you see on Twitter.
Definitely not the worst case, rebranding can do some good. I see myself getting used to it quite rapidly, but I do see it immediately as a downgrade. Life also continues as usual.
Saturation is the new black
I've noticed that the current design trends are:
- Big bold letters
- high saturation primary color,
- quirky typefaces
They nailed all those boxes
(I don't mean to sound disparaging, I actually really like the new look)
