ASMR -The Basics of Planning | The cup of Tea

  • A very gentle introduction to the world of planning engineering. I take you through a few basic, but fundamental planning principles. This is done in an ASMR style - not to be taken professionally.
I really don't feel great about a few things in this video.
Firstly the periodic shaking camera when I write ! I only bought a small tripod that fits snugly on my computer desk, so there isnt much I can do to escape this!
Secondly, I actually misquoted myself when re-writing the reduced plan. The get tea activity should have been 20s, not 10s! Though it actually had no bearing on the overall durations because the total was still less than the total boil time of the kettle :D
Third - I kept saying "Order of Operations" Instead of Order of Execution. The terms are actually interchangeable, but I should have stuck with it :D Sorry!
Fourth - The angle isnt great but hopefully it's still enjoyable :)

ASMR is essentially a made up acronym (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response ) used to describe that tingly / buzzing feeling you may have experienced in your head or running down your spine. The sensation can be triggered by personal attention, tutorials, sounds etc. If you are discovering "ASMR" videos for the first time, their primary purpose is just to relax and almost always to send the listener to sleep.

First, this was awesome. Great work. Second, your dyslexia isn't something to apologize for. You've clearly been successful in life and have worked hard to overcome it. You haven't done anything wrong so no need to say you're sorry! Third, you're so hard on yourself. You do fantastic work and all of your subscribers appreciate you! Finally, all the gold stars and really, great work. Thank you for all you do!

Brilliantly done 😊 The camera angle turned out great! I think seeing things directly from your point of view added a level of camaraderie that may not have come through otherwise. The whole idea makes a vague process seem so tangible and fixable... I can think of a million different scenarios in which this would be helpful. I can also see the importance of using a computer. Nothing ever goes exactly as planned, and I can't imagine how many revisions you must fly through in real life. Hopefully you're okay with the fact that we're all going to want subsequent lessons 😉

I live in México and I don´t believe I´ve ever heard about planning engeineering, I currently work as a materials planner and tought they were alike, but turns out they´re not, I think is more releated with process engeineering ´cuz I´ve seen them do things like that, in any case, I always wondered how they made those desitions,However, I will apply this to my regular work, im sure I can save a lot of time by taking this into account.
Btw, i didn´t go to sleep, I´m really interested about this topic. Thanks as always.

Hi Jorge :D Well we have material planners in my work too, but yes they perform two very different roles - at least in our organisation! Our material planners are tasked with assessing future demands / orders and facilitating stock movements / order requisitions to suit this demand. Planning Engineers (Production / Project) usually manage the actual program that results in the demand that material planners see in their parts of the system.

Pfff. You've gotta have milk and sugar with the tea. As a man I overheard on a train once said, "If I just wanted water, I'd go to the tap."
I actually enjoyed this a lot. The time went by very quickly - I couldn't believe that 31 minutes were up when the video ended. Maybe I actually enjoy this kind of stuff (even though a test I did in school once told me that I was in the bottom 3% of the country when it came to mechanical reasoning)! When you said we could just close our eyes and listen to your voice, I thought, "well yeah...but I want to see the new graph" :-D I didn't actually notice the camera shaking at all.
I'm definitely going to time how long it takes my kettle to boil water tomorrow :-D

    • get cup
    • get teabag
    • boil water
    • pour water
    • get spoon
    • stir
    • add milk
    • stir
    • remove tea bag
    • put down spoon
    • pick up cup
    • enjoy the hell out of a great cup of tea

It's not about the effective managing and saving time.
It's about the journey of making the tea, like having to wash the cup or look for a spoon in your own room :P
Amazing explanations, you should not be sorry for teaching us free stuff.

Question, obviously in planning is vital in big projects, because the time that you put into planning the whole thing saves a lot of time, but ¿Is the time saved by planning small things like the cup of tea, worth the time spent planning it? I know the purpose of the video is to bring a common example to explain some complicated stuff, but I was just thinking if it was worth going through planning in day to day stuff.
By the way really loved the video thxx

    • @ArticulateDesignASMR
      @ArticulateDesignASMR  4 года назад

It's a great question! If you're only ever making one cup of tea, then no it probably wouldn't be worth the time it took to draft the plan. However the time saving then stands for every cup of tea thereafter, which is a significant saving over the space of a year :D
