    As a student of literature and linguistics it is amazing to see how much the language from Ancient Greek evolved into what's spoken today. Also how some of the pronunciations have changed over the centuries.

    • @fotiosvrettos4728
      @fotiosvrettos4728 17 дней назад

      the pronuciations havent changed. They just teach you the wrong pronunciation. If you pay attention, you will notice that they will pronounce the greek words exactly how an american would reading the words. It is not a coincidence. I am greek and was born in greece, i had ancient greek as a subject and the pronunciation is the same as new greek. Then I moved to the netherlands and had ancient greek there, pronunciation was as if a dutch person is trying to pronounce it. Then online i see the english people pronouncing ancient greek words and its also different. So clearly, every country just pronounces the ancient greek words in their own way and they are all false except the greek one. The most probable thing is that its very similar but most probably the same pronunciation as new greek. Even ancient greek songs passed down the generations have the same pronunciation. I mean seriously its as if for example spanish is the new spanish, and a word in new spanish would be caliente, with the correct spanish pronounciation. and then someone would come along and say in ancient spanish caliente was pronounced as kahlee-entay. And what do we see? Its exactly the way an american would pronounce it. This is the exact same thing with foreign countries teaching people ancient greek where they teach a completely wrong pronounciation. Its low key annoying, especially when i was studying it in the netherlands.

    • @Etherealwhitness
      @Etherealwhitness 3 года назад +177

      It's not the same language. The one you're referring to is Ancient Greek, this one is Modern Greek. A Modern Greek would not be able to understand Ancient Greek without studying it first. It's like Latin and Italian, the only difference being that Greek hasn't changed its name.

    • @sunflower3823
      @sunflower3823 3 года назад +121

      @@Etherealwhitness no, as a greek i can understand some stuff in ancient greek. latin and italian are a lot more distant than modern and ancient greek. there plenty of words that have remained basically the same. they aren’t completely different languages.

    • @Etherealwhitness
      @Etherealwhitness 3 года назад +53

      @@sunflower3823 They are two different languages and linguistics also classifies them as such. As an Italian I can also understand many words (tons of them remained the same in Italian as well) and some sentences in Latin, but I can also understand many words in Spanish and French and Portuguese and Romanian and they're all different languages related to Italian. Who says Greek is closer to ancient Greek than Italian is to Latin? There is also a video entitled "Do modern Greeks know ancient Greek?" where modern Greeks fail to understand basically everything, which disproves your statement

    • @illumi1404
      @illumi1404 3 года назад +48

      as someone who is a modern greek speaker (i’m greek myself), and i still struggle to understand ancient greek. i can understand some things, but it is a lot different than modern greek. the greek language is still an amazing language, because greek is still being spoken even after being in slavery for 400 years. ✨✨✨

      TA was explaining phi, and my lab partner (who was so confident about knowing some Greek letters), said, oh yeah that's "PHI" (the "f" sound with "ie" from "pie".). The TA then said "or if you're GREEK, PHI" (the "f" sound with "ee" from "tree".)

    Hey,
    i just wanted to share the Gospel that all men need, the Bible says all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) this means we all deserve death and separation from a perfect and holy God. But God did not leave us for dead, He sent His only begotten Son to die in yours and my place, so that anyone who believes in Him and repents of sin will be saved from separation from God, and have eternal life! I urge you please put your faith in Jesus Christ and follow Him, He promises to save all who cry out to Him and have a humble heart. We arent guaranteed another day so we must seek Him today while He may be found.
